Today is just 25thDay 1 : 100 Kms ride from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad to Pari Chowk, Greater Noida and Back.
Greater Noida is one of the futuristic Satellite towns of Delhi and so the roads are wonderful, wide, vacant and just amazing. Once we hit Noida gate, traffic was very low as it was Diwali. Due to run in period, we could not open throttle more than half but believe me in quarter throttle also we could feel the power waiting to be unleashed. The ride went smoothly as the road was fantastic and weather was supportive. On the open road, my GV650 rode like a very stable behemoth. Though I was focussed on road, I could see the heads turning and admiring the bike. This was one of the things I wanted from my Bike. People suggested me to replace the stock exhaust with a tail gunner or some other loud custom exhaust but I am a biker and a mature one at that, I prefer stock bike anyday over a modified one. Not to offend anyone but I like it simple and suave.

Day 2 : 220 Kms ride from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad to Magsons Resorts, 106 Km, NH2, UP and Back

Ok, before I go ahead with details, I would like to explain my reason for considering a cruiser.

I love speed and I was eyeing a Ninja650, nothing came close except Hyosung GT650, but the bulk in GT650 scared me, Ninja on the other hand is a sports cruiser and GT650 is a pure sports bike.

I had taken my wife for a few outings on CBR and she being a mother of two was not comfortable with the height of pillion seat. She loves to ride with me but is very practical and keeps me in check (no pun intended). She told me two things:

    01) You are now not a boy anymore so you should go for something comforatble, that allows you to enjoy ride and not just the speed.

Considering the two factors, I had to rethink my decision and include cruisers in my list. I never liked cruisers as I love speed. But actually thanks to my wife I got a bike that is not just a smooth cruiser but is also almost as frugal & agile as a sports bike.

We were targeting to reach McDonalds on the Highway near Matura Refinery have burgers and be back by 8pm. It was already 4:00pm and we were only at Sarita Vihar so I realised that Mcdonalds would be difficult but we started nonetheless.

We took the NH2 and avoided Taj Expressway as I was not sure if bikes are allowed on Taj Expressway. The road in faridabad was a little crowded but after that it was good cemented road till the toll after palwal. As we passed the toll, the road was patchy and we could feel the jerks, not because of the bike but because the road was too patchy. It was getting dark and we had a deadline so we decided if we can reach McDonalds by 6pm then its fine otherwise we will head back. As we crossed the UP border I took the side road and first major jump happened. At the end of this newly made side road was a speed breaker that was completely invisible more so because of the light was getting low. I was at around 75km/hr and up went the aquila throwing my wife atleast 3-4 inches in air. I was surprised the way bike was stable after such a jump. My wife was a little shaken up but it was all right as she had landed on a nice and comfortable pillion seat.

It was 5:54 and the sun was below the horizon and time for us to head back. Fortunately I had spotted a Sagar Ratna 10Kms ahead board and was hoping to reach there in another miunte or so and I did. We took a break, had dinner, relieved ourselves and were ready to head back.

It was 6:40pm and it was dark. My wife was a little scared as the entire stretch is without any street light and It was UP and then Haryana before we could hit Delhi NCR. We started anyhow and took a u-turn to head back. Though the headlight is good but I felt it could have been better. On low beam the light falls quite close and on high beam there is a dark patch between the far end and near end of the light spots. You can also see the shadow of front number plate on high beam.

I drove carefully and we reached Delhi safe without any snag or problem both from the bike and the wife. Stopped at the BPCL petrol for speed 97 and had the tank refilled. The damn fuel costs Rs83 per litre. But it was a nice ride overall. The hard clutch created discomfort in my left arm, but besides the small complaints or could be better things, I really feel happy I took the decision I did.

    The girl said, 'NO!'

Nicely penned down practicality. Hearty congratulations on the new acquisition. It is only a matter of time before the larger displacements grow into you.

Thank you all, glad you liked the writeup. This was my first post and sure would love to write more as my experience grows with the bike.

@B7ACKTHORN thank you for approving the thread.

@ Naveen1985-I was always into speed and power and wanted a bike that carried best of both worlds. In my personal opinion, ST7 is a true cruiser and not particularly a bike that has the frugality of a sports engine.

Congratulations prsntmsra for the new bike! It is a beautiful machine indeed. The number of big bikes is increasing day by day in GZB.

Also please take care to avoid posting helmetless riding photos on xBhp.

Thanks, Will take care of the helmet and other gear from next time onwards. Although all these shots are stationery ones, taken when bike was parked and on stand.

I hope I am not intruding but just a little advice. Please get yourself and your wife a good full face helmet. The one you are wearing is practically useless in event of a real crash.

I have a friend, he crashed and damaged his face (broken eye sockets etc). The people behind him rushed him to the hospital (and we know that's not common in India). The doctors said that had there been a delay of 15-20 minutes, the doctors would not have been able to save him.

You have two beautiful daughters, that's additional responsibility. Besides, a good full face looks cool.

This is unsolicited advice (but that's our national pastime), I hope you take in right spirit.

+1 on the above post by rusty_mechs. Also invest in knee guards(and other gear) for yourself and your pillion. Trust me it is totally worth it. The bike you are riding will feel like a bulldozer on you in the event of a crash. I crashed recently with my wife and I know the guilt that bears down upon you if they get hurt.

                            And yeah, Congratulations! .

Thank you guys for the advise and it is well taken. Just to clarify that these pics with half cut helmet are stationery ones. Yes I have proper riding jacket & gloves that I use for rides, I have to invest in knee guards though and a good helmet & gear for my wife.

I hate loud exhaust notes so a tail gunner in my personal opinion is utter waste of money. I would rather have nice leather saddlebags for my bike and few other utilities.

I am a very cautious driver and take every precaution as at the end of the day a 2-wheeler is a 2-wheeler and that too in a country like ours. Thanks again for your advise and i will definitely get the gear before my next ride.
