Re: 10 Days - Norwaying around Kawasaki ER5

While i was planning this trip.I was also little bit concerned about the financial aspects. As my colleagues and everyone around was telling me that Norway is costlier than the other Scandinavian countries.I started posting on the relevant social networking platforms and travel forum to get a partner.Male/Female doesn't matter, but it would have been so gay to share the backseat of your motorbike with a Male companion for 10 days. One of my post in Couch Surfing got attention from a lady from Vietnam, with a few formal discussion in Facebook we agreed to meet over a coffee and discuss the plan in detail.Over the discussion i knew that she was equally excited to travel, get lost in the beauty of Norway..away from this bustling day to day life.

There were couple of weeks remaining and still some shopping was pending.Since i did not had any motorcycle luggage except the top box, which i reserved for Hu to keep her stuff..I had to buy a new tank bag.The other important thing was Camping tent, this motorcycle journey would have been incomplete without a proper camping experience.Again i had to shell out some Euros to get a proper waterproof tent

Initial plan was to ride from North to South Norway based on below itinerary.

But due to bad weather in northern side during the initial days,I had to plan this trip other way around.Viking Line Cruise cost from Helsinki to Stockholm including bike was 100 Euro.
We started our journey from Helsinki on 11th September evening in Gabriella (Viking Line).Pretty excited i was...as the next 10 days of my life..i was about to live my dream

              Cheers

Re: 10 Days - Norwaying around Kawasaki ER5

We reached Stockholm port on Friday morning and taking out the bike from the port was piece of cake .City roads and diversions are most confusing roads, you miss one turn and you are gone for another 10-20 kms before you can U turn and return back on your original course.Since i did not had any GPS device with me,I had to l recite all the highway numbers and city turns. But once we are on motorway, its a straight road to your destination.

Escaping through city highway 222 and then to highway 75,I reached Motorway E20.Motorway E20 takes you till Orbero and then diverges to Gothenburg.Ahead from Orbero i followed E18.Meanwhile the weather went bad and we got caught up in Mild showers,It lasted for around 1 hour.We stopped for quick break for food at Burger King. While rain finished with its errand,we started back on the road.Soon we reached the Norway border, there wasn't anything special about the border crossing.Just a custom declaration check post on the right. We crossed onto the other side and weather started to become better.

Somewhere on the E18 on Norway side

We reached Drammen by evening and started navigating towards camping site. After doing couple of rounds of the town we managed to reach the camping site.We rode around 550 kms today. We quickly pitched our tent and decided to crash early so that we can start the next days ride at proper time .Got fresh, took a hot bath, had few tea spoons of Koskenkorva for a smooth sleep

                      Cheers

                      Day 2 - Drammen - Seljord - Dalen - Valle - Evje - Tonstad

From the second day,the real adventure began. We got a early start, thanks to the bone chilling cold.We woke-up to a foggy morning and that is something which we weren't praying about. We rode till Kongsberg and the fog was still there,We decided to take a break in Kongsberg and let the Fog settle down.We started to follow the road signs which were pointing to some nearby historic sights and with those signs landed us here.We were clueless about the sight. There was a information center in the corner but, they usually opens at 10:00 and it was still 2 hours left for 10:00 AM.

This beautiful building in the right turned out to be the largest Baroque/Roccoco Church in Norway.

It seems this was the town square during its glorious days.Which has now become a point of interest for travelling kind.

Apart from this historic site, what interested me was this river flowing through the town.My sixth sense felt some Waterfall nearby,So me and Hu went for a quick exploration stroll.

It was the start of the trip and my camera lens started to give auto focus related issues

Almost half hour and Fog was not in mood to clear up.We decided to get back on the road and pretty soon the weather became better. As we moved ahead views started to become more vivid and pleasing.

For breakfast's,lunch and dinners..We had decided to rely on super market food and fast food,to keep the trip cost minimum
I needed a coffee..So,We took our first fuel stop as i was feeling quite cold, even though it was sunny and even though i was wearing layers of warm clothes.I felt bad about Hu as i told her to keep minimum stuff for the trip and now since it was quite cold..I wasn't sure if she was carrying enough warm clothes or not.

More astounding view as we move towards Seljord.

This was another spectacular site,But there wasn't any view point or parking area to stop-by and take photo. So i stopped at the next parking area and walked back here..just to capture this beautiful reflection, beautiful lake and this awesome road running along the lake.

                      TO BE CONTD

                      Cheers

Re: 10 Days - Norwaying around Kawasaki ER5

These kind of rides gets very boring for pillion. While the rider gets to enjoy the first hand views and cool breeze,Pillion has limited options of getting bored, sneak left and right, get scared of oncoming huge trucks and sleep on the rider maybe.I rode as a pillion once in my life and that was the most scary and painful experience i ever had in my life .That was the day when i decided to never be a pillion again,at least for long rides.Meanwhile Hu turned out to be a well mannered pillion with no such signs, except few reactions of pillion braking while i was taking corners . I was happy as i don't have to stop for regular butt breaks and Pee breaks which most of first time Pillion riders need quite frequently.

I know that the last paragraph rants about a Perfect female pillion rider which are non-existent in this material world .By now you guys must have understood that under what circumstances i have written above paragraph.

Every inch of Norway was so spectacular that we were unable to resist the thoughts of halting at every KM.Meanwhile this stop was inevitable

When we used to take a break,i always looked at the Google map to remember the turns and highway number which we have to follow. This is a good way to avoid getting lost, and then when you are in doubt you can always look back at the Google maps whether you have taken the right direction or not.Entire route until Tonstad was filled with beautiful lakes, roads and mountains in backdrop.Below photographs has been taken between Dalen-Valle-Tonstad.

This was our last photo of the day.We did not took any photo stop after this

Our initial plan was to stay in Tonstad, but we were bit late and daylight was fading out very fast.We agreed to stay in the camping site in Evje, but when we reached Evje we decided to push until Tonstad. It was already dark when we reached Tonstad,I checked the camping site in the Google map and it was not far from where we were standing. We navigated our way to that Camping place named as "Tonstadli Ferie, Kurs og Misjonssenter".As soon as we entered the camping area,we saw lot of people hanging around, kids playing around and group of alpha males talking their shit having glasses filled with familiar looking substance. And that is when I confirmed that i am in the right place Later on we came to know that the entire place is pack with couple of families who have gathered from cities nearby to enjoy the weekend together. We started checking with the people around for the Camping site manager's cell number and we were not so successful in that attempt.Couple of blokes tried to help us,but they gave up too.Meanwhile i saw a table full of food and drinks..i repeat non-alcoholic drinks. We hit the jackpot when we found an asian lady from Indonesia who was one of the key member of the group/community.For a moment i forgot about all the night stay worries and started to fill my plate with all the delicious junk food on the table. As soon as i started my voyage with the chips, couple of blokes surrounded me and started asking about the plan. The discussion started and kept on going with some pretty good inputs for next couple of days. With the help from the fellow blokes,I entirely changed the plan to include some must visit places. While Hu was all over the food and drinks,I only got to eat a doughnut. The asian lady from Indonesia showed us a place where we can camp for the night. We decided to pay for the camping place in morning to the Camping Site Manager,if only he arrives in time.But..we were having a strong feeling that he is not gonna make it on time..and tonight's camping is Free
We pitched up the tent and got settled.Meanwhile I repeated the same procedure of having few tea spoons of Koskenkorva,It really helps for a flat good night sleep.Wished good night to Hu and settled inside my sleeping bag.

                          Cheers
