• Two CBRs to two reservoirs - Newbie meets Veteran rider

Met up with a pal from college (sayhi2sai) who also owns a CBR250R and has presently completed about 50k kms on it. I was more than glad to have my second ride with an experienced rider to guide me. I had a wishlist of things to cover during the ride-

    1. Ride on a road that I've not done before
    2. Curves on the road, but without changes in elevation
    3. Cruise during a heavy downpour

As it turned out, I got more than what I had wished for! Another brilliant ride, and I learnt a lot about the machine.

Lovely place... highly loved bikes... highly interested in more...

The roads in the pics are the kind of roads I love doing on a ceeber 250. Old roads merged in with the landscape... nicely tarred.

              Bring in on mate...

If you guys think these pics are good, the pics yet to be uploaded are mind blowing. We covered two water bodies during this ride, 1.Kanva Reservoir and 2. Manchanballe Dam.

The route was Bangalore-Nice Road-Magadi (Magadi road)- Savandurga Forest Road-Kanva-Manchanballe-Bangalore. Click here for routemap.

I have done some extreme offroading on this trip and as always, I fell in love with the bike once again. Even after half a lakh kms, the cbr doesn't fail to put a smile on my face every single time I get on the saddle.

Oops .. I guess this became more like a teaser .. it's Kanva and Manchanabele reservoirs near Bangalore.

Now for the rest of the log:

The itinerary for the day consisted of starting through Magadi road, heading to Kanva reservoir and finally returning after visiting Manchanabele reservoir. My health wasn't upto the mark so I left home 10 mins late. I decided to go through the city to the starting point at Mysore Road - NICE junction. I was a bit overconfident about the route and kept misjudging the distances after which I had to take a left or a right. Without my knowledge I was doing 90s on Outer Ring road and missed the left to Magadi road. This was the first time I missed the phone mount on my old bike that I use for navigation. Coupled with the late start and missed turns, I reached the starting point 15 mins late.

After a quick meetup, we jumped right to it and started cruising down Magadi road. This road definitely had a great first impression on me. Smooth winding tarmac with no loose sand or gravel and minor traffic. It was just a brilliant sight to see another CBR in front, carving up the morning tarmac of Magadi road.

My fellow rider was a veteran all right. Just a few minutes into the ride, sayhi2sai started using gestures to point out the hazards on the roads, showing overtaking and slowdown signals, etc. But I got a glimpse of his experience when he was taking a deep left corner and at the apex of the turn, suddenly thrust out his right leg to point at a pothole. Good god!

I was clearly addicted to the ride and was not my normal 'stop everywhere and start clicking photographs' self. The first stop was on Magadi-Ramnagara road for a few clicks.

                  Me:

                  Sleepy Sai:

                  Bikes at Kanva reservoir:

We had some breakfast near Ramnagara and headed to Kanva. The roads were narrower but surroundings were cool and serene. After completing 80% of the route around the reservoir, we rode down to the bed, took some snaps.

                  "Who ate my number plate"

With the plan of reaching back to Magadi road, we took the road going through Manchanabele, and spent more time than intended at this reservoir. The reason should be apparent from these pictures.

                  Some offroading:

                  Skimming on gravel:

Till now, the first two items in my wishlist had been checked off. After looking at some rain clouds I started to rejoice and got into my rainwear. Felt a bit sad for Sai, who was a little confident that it wouldn't rain but nature had to prove him wrong. What followed was blinding rain, so much that we missed our route and ended up on Mysore road, the route which we wanted to avoid in the first place. After a couple kms on the rain lashed highway, we reached the NICE expressway and got onto it. The bike was zipping along the expressway which was now a river of rainwater at 100+ kmph without blinking an eye. My third wish - checked.

Since everything about the trip had gone beautifully well, just to keep things in balance, my luck gifted me with heavy traffic moving at 10kmph all the way from the point where I exited NICE upto my house . Nevertheless, what a fantastic ride.

Route: Bangalore > Magadi > Ramanagara > Kanva > Manchanabele > Mysore Road > Bangalore

                  Cheers,
                  Arvind

Arvind, as always a brilliant narrative and crisp pictures. The palm pic turned out much better than how I imagined it in my mind.

And please, stop referring to me as a 'Veteran' rider. I am anything but one, especially when people like aargee are here, who have played a pivotal role in me becoming a better rider. We are all on a learning curve, and I was highly impressed with the level of confidence you displayed on your new acquisition.

Don't feel sad for me about the rains. I enjoy that sort of stuff, being drenched to the bone. Waiting for our next ride to the unknown!

Really? Did I? I still don't know in what way because, I've never imagined that I'm qualified to teach anyone

                          superb pics guys
                          nice roads+monsoon weather+fuel money () = mind-blowing riding experience
                          again.. loved those pics..

i think CBR would dethrone the RE as the Indian favorite for tours in the near future.. certainly looks like its going that way..

                          Ride safe and have fun.

That is just brilliant mate. Loved it.

M'bele ... I thought so... It's one of those places where you can take your bike all the way to the waterfront... I was there last autumn and even spotted a jackal on my way back. It is a beaut of a place, especially dressed in monsoon green.

                            Cheers.

Good going BTW and beautiful pics as well as the places. . .
