Re: Dream ride 2014 - Valparai-Munnar-Meghamalai.
The Final log for this awesome dream ride
Caution: Long post
Day4:
We woke up very late the next day , around 10 in the morning . Ride agenda- Ride to Meghamalai and return as soon as 2 pm and leave to chennai . Achieved ?? hell no :P Jokes apart , we convinced Harikishen to ride with us . He was not at all interested to ride with us n opted to stay in the room as he told he had a bad back pain . Anyway we compelled him to join us telling we would return back very soon . So we packed minimal stuffs , left our luggages in the room and started to Meghamalai , it was a very pleasing 30kms ride from Theni to Meghamalai. The offroad patch started slowly .With some advices from Praveen jones on how to tackle off- roads we started uphill. The first few kilometers were good but as we started to ride uphill, roads started becoming worser . We kept making fun of the duke all the way given the news that some things kept breaking for many dukes :P but nevertheless it held on very good ,no issues whatsoever.
The mandatory group pic
Once we reached uphill, everywhere we just saw GREEN . Meghamalai was too beautiful, tea plantations everywhere. We stopped for a photo session and with no knowledge of time we kept clicking loads of pictures. After sometime we called it quits with Hari starting to abuse us :P So we went in search of some tea , Praveen and Raj wanted to ride further to see a water dam some 10 kilometers away , while the rest of us opted out and told we would keep going downhill slowly and wait for them to catch up . By this time we were actually scared of Harikishen abusing us :P So we carried on downhill . Meanwhile, myself and Srini started racing , with our bike's engine switched off :P We ducked and tried to race each other :P We reached a maximum of 60kmph on the way down . Haran was very cautious not to leave his bike into any big bumps on the road and he was riding very slowly . Beware , something did happen with the D390 later that day
so , the 4 of us reached downhill and stopped at a tea shop , in a distant we heard loud motors coming towards us , none other than jones and Raj , racing downhill riding rashly . It was already half past noon ,we decided to ride back to the room, finish our lunch and leave to Chennai ASAP , we were game to somehow reach chennai within the night . So we reached the room at around 2pm , saddled up ,pumped up petrol , ate our lunch and left towards Trichy.
It wad already around 4 when we left and it became dark soon , around 5.30 pm we stopped on the road side to check the duke's chain as it was very loose . Now Harikishen started to loosen the wheel lock nut , Praveen told he would tighten the chain , so we tightened the chain and left, the roads were very good. We rode in a staggered formation maintaining 100-110 all the way . I found Night riding to be much fun than morning in the sun
while we were nearing Trichy there was a very big bump on the road , i took my left hand to show the signal to slow down and slowed down but by that time i was over the bump ,bike sprung up atleast a meter or two over the road and i got my balls crunched when the bike landed :P I stopped on the road side just to see no guy behind me had slowed down and had the same effect as me :P Hariharan was telling that his rear wheel was wobbling all the way , we just made fun telling its the duke and stuff like this tends to happen :P After cooling down our crotches we got back on the bikes and left to Trichy , it was already 9pm. Yashwanth told that he would carry on to his grandparents' house ,spend the night there and leave to Chennai after a few days . So we bid adieu to him and had our dinner . We were in a dilemma to risk it and ride to Chennai on the same night , so we took a vote and decided that we would ride back to Chennai the next day as early as possible, which obviously did not happen being the lazy gooses we were :P
So, we called up Yash and he told that we can spend the night in his grandparents' house , i had called one of my friends to meet me, Leo , a guy with a crazily tuned Apache RTR , we met up and after talking sometime he told that he would direct us to the location that Yash mentioned. we reached the place where Yash mentioned and waited for him . Meanwhile we enjoyed some backfires from Leo's bike which spit fire on high revs
Haran was still whining that his rear was wobbling so Raj was checking that up and shouted out telling that the Lock nut was missing . Everyone were in a big shock . What actually happened was that Praveen did not tighten the lock nut after tightening the chain :P it fell down somewhere on the way , another reason to stay in Trichy for the night . We planned to check with the KTM showroom the next day , get the bike fixed and leave for Chennai. Leo told that he would help us the next day as he knew some people in the KTM showroom . Angel in disguise :P So we reached Yashwanth's house , unloaded everything and slept happily after chatting sometime and playing UNO cards .
Day 5:
The next morning i woke up to some atrocious sound from Raj and Praveen trying to do some wheelies and stoppies on a kid's tricycle they found at Yashwanth's house :P sad news for the kid who used it :P We saddled up and left to the KTM showroom, met Leo there and fixed the duke , got a chance to check out the new RCs which were parked there. It was already time for lunch and we ate breakfast then only . Leo directed us and led the group until the highways , we bid adieu to him and left for Chennai. We reached Chennai around 5 in the evening and reached our homes safely
This was one of the most memorable trips and one of the longest i have rode thus far. Enjoyed it to the core, learnt a lot like time management and much more. Made loads of friends and new experiences. I'd like to thank Srini, Praveen, Harikishen , Haran, Raj and Yash ji for gracing this ride , Leo for helping us out in Trichy and Yash ji's grandparents for opening their home to us for the night . We meet so many different people during a ride ,it was proved with all the kind hearted people we met through out the ride , from the accidents to the utmost fun we had , iam happy i was given the chance to do it with you guys
Harikishen please don't abuse me :P :P :P
Some misc. pictures:
Peace out
Pulsarians be like :P Park it there, take a picture , park it here take a picture :P Nevertheless, she's a beauty
What people do when they are happy :P

End of the road
This was my first try at writing Tlogs , please do give me suggestions as to how i can improve for the Tlogs yet to come

Awesome ride and awesome people. Its indeed a good T'log you have written. I see many bikes lined up. Can you just give a brief pros and cons about how each of them performed in the whole trip. Apart from Karizma, did anyone else have any trouble? Especially the p220 and apache rtr 180? how was the seating position for long drives on apache rtr? Sorry to bother.LOL

Re: Dream ride 2014 - Valparai-Munnar-Meghamalai.
The karizma gave problems as it was not serviced before , both the CBRs did not show any problem ,the duke also did not show any problem except we had to stop now and then for refueling with the range the d390 has . The p220 did not show any problem too ,the only problem the rider told was tat the rear suspension was not upto mark for offroading but he blames the tyre for that , both the Rtr180s did not show any problem too,yes the seating posture is a bit in sport position wid a lean on front but whenever we felt our backs ache we wud lean back on our bags mounted on the saddle 😝 the rtrs also could not keep up wid the other bikes in highways ,so we maintained 110-120kmph all the way ,vibrations was one issue but actually I got used to it plus with time my engine has become a bit refined so vibs are kind of less .Originally posted by Mibin M View PostAwesome ride and awesome people. Thanks for the supa quick reply. Lots of options to choose from these days. Its actually bit hard to select a new bike considering all the grounds from commuting to getting Leh'd....

Cons- lack of top end ,not the perfect tourer.
D390:
Pros- perfect tourer
Cons-windblast, petrol refuel interval
Karizma:
Pros- again a perfect 80-100kmph tourer, subtle n comfy
Cons- lack of disc brake showed some problems.
P220:
Pros- good for touring. No problems whatsoever.
Cons- did not find any except the tyre problem. The North Eastern Sojourn- wanderlust diary-7000 Kilometers|| Sikkim || Bhutan
