    [Photo Feature]: One Amazing Ride to Spiti _ [Solo]

    For quite some time; I have been contemplating a solo ride to great Himalayas!

    Finally, the time has come to make that happen.
    It will be ride of my lifetime...

    Leaving Kolkata on April 30; rest update upon coming back home.






    Pre-Ride Update!


    ~: Few Thoughts on "One Amazing Ride" :~



    We live in a country where natural wonders are abundant.
    Mountains, deserts, forests, sea-beaches; you name it! We have everything in our Great India!


    For any biker, riding mountain is heaven by itself, and the greatest of all mountains is Great Himalayas.
    No matter how many times I ride there, I can never get enough; I always get back there for more...


    Spiti valley is unique, magical; but challenging at the same time like all other Himalayan terrains.
    For some reason, Spiti has got a special place in my heart.


    Solo ride is always unique and challenging. No one is there to help you if anything goes wrong. But, at the same time, one can truly feel the ride if one is going solo. It's a ride Nirvana for the rider.


    I am the rider here, and my ride Nirvana will be Spiti...


    This ride will be an amazing ride for my lifetime, so I am calling it "One Amazing Ride."

    Let's see what's waiting for me...

        One Amazing Ride to Spiti _ [Solo] - Chapter1

        I have completed my ride!
        It's time for Travel-Log...


        ~ : Inspiration : ~

        First time I heard about Spiti, I was not quite sure what to expect there.
        Most people talk about Ladakh.
        Spiti seemed like an unknown/uncommon place; and being so, it has got my attention.

        For solo ride, I always wanted to make one,
        but until now it did not happen yet.


        ~ : Female solo rider in India : ~

        While in India, female solo rider has to keep few things in mind.
        Most important of all, safety-security at all places.

        So, keeping that in mind, I started making my plan for the ride.


        ~ : Ride Plan : ~

        I came to know, best time to visit Spiti, is September-October.
        But I could not wait that long.
        I picked first week of May and planned accordingly.

        It's summer time in India, so I saw no point riding to Delhi back and forth from Kolkata.
        Instead of being sun-burned and getting myself tired on plain highways pointlessly;
        I transported my Avy (Avenger 220 - my Riding Angel) Kolkata-Delhi by train.

        It is mountain ride that excites me, not plain highways in scorching heat.


        [Shimla-Kaza]...






        ~ : Time to Ride! : ~

        ~ Day #1 [ May 2, 2015] ~
        Destination: Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
        Route: NH-1
        Distance: 360 km

        I started riding from Delhi.


        Moving towards Shimla...


        I had an idea about what to expect until Shimla as I been there before, not by motorcycle though.

        I came to experience intolerable north Indian heat until Kalka; you don't sweat there, you get burned under Sun.
        I was speeding to escape the unwanted heat. As soon as I crossed Kalka and beyond, mountains welcomed me and heat was gone.

        Shimla has become very congested. Too much hotels, too many people.
        My first halt was here.


        ~ Day #2 [ May 3, 2015] ~
        Destination: Rampur
        Route: NH-22 [Hindustan-Tibet Road]
        Distance: 126 km

        On way to Rampur...






        Rampur was my 2nd halt.

        ~ Day #3 [ May 4, 2015] ~
        To: Nako
        Route: NH-22 [Hindustan-Tibet Road]
        Distance: 187 km

        Moving towards Nako... Going to be a long ride...

        Finally reached Nako in the afternoon after a long ride, settled here for a halt.

                Best wishes for the ride but have the roads opened fully ? I am getting some weird reports here.

                I am not sure of your route but be safe in remote places in some Northern cities.

                  To: Kaza
                  Route: NH-22 [Hindustan-Tibet Road]
                  Distance: 110+ km

                  Landslides... Encountered at least 5 of them en-route...

                  Couldn't help but admire the sheer beauty of this Valley...



                  One of the best shot to remember for a long long time...

                  I found Spiti very remote; a place of complete solitude if one is looking for it.
                  It's a place of absolute quietness and peace. Majestic snow peaks are all around you.

                  What about roads? There aren't any proper roads as you reach high altitudes. All loose gravels of different size and big boulders.
                  Make your own way and be prepared for landslides as I encountered 5 of them.


                  Spiti has very basic hotels with basic amenities. Although, HPTDC hotels are better.

                  What you will really admire there, is the stunning scenic beauty all around you while you ride!
                  You can’t help but click photos everywhere if you are into photography.
                  For me, clicking photos are not my liking, but even I clicked a few.


                  I have completed my amazing ride, and literally it was more than amazing for me.
