  • [Photo Feature]: East Sikkim joy ride..

4 friends and three bikes i.e. 2 yamaha fz and one herohonda zmr, on a tour to East Sikkim. We are The Mafia Riderz, a small biking group from Krishnagar, Nadia from West Bengal. A long two year's plan went for success. We keep traveling. But this was our longest tour till now. Around 1600 kms. in 7 days. As this was our 1st experience on hills, we have learnt many things. Like what to do and what not to do. And we will keep all those things on mind on our next trip.
Friends please forgive me, if I make any mistake on writing as this is my 1st thread on Xbhp. And ignore any grammatical mistakes made by me.
I want to make it simple.

    Tour duration: 5th-11th April, 2015.

    Riders:

    Yamaha Fz-s(white)- Sumanta Malakar(myself)
    Yamaha Fz-s(army green)- Rahul Bhowmik
Hero Honda Karizma ZMR- Sandipan Paul+Madhab Mondal(pillion)

    Travelogue:

5/4/15:journey started, destination Siliguri. From Krishnagar.
6/4/15:Siliguri to Sikkim Manipal University ( Singtham)
    7/4/15:Singtham to Gangtok (for permit)
    8/4/15:Gangtok side scenes.
    9/4/15:Gangtok to Rongli.
10/4/15:Rongli to Lungthum via Dzuluk. And back to Siliguri.

Yes, definitely. I was waiting for the approval.

        • Day 1: 5/4/15

We started our journey at 6 o'clock in the morning. We have faced many problems to tie the luggeges with our bikes. The bags were not settling. we planned to start at 5. But got late because of these problems.

This pic has taken as a snapshot from a video. That is why the quality is bad. Sorry for that. We had not taken any photo on that day, because we have to cover the longest distance of our joyrney on that day.

We thought that we will take very few and counted breaks. But because of the very bad road condition of NH34 we took random breaks. But those are only to give our back and hip a rest. We reached Siliguri around 8 P.M. and slept early to get prepared for an early morning.

We were too tired to wake up early in the morning. We thought to start from Siliguri at 8 a.m. But we managed to start at 10a.m. completing our breakfast, fueling up our bikes.

          Entering into the hill areas

After entering the hill region the road was good, except some areas due to land slides. We were stopping after a while for clicking pictures. And could not stop ourselves from looking around, for the awesome scenic beauty. The smooth roads with sharp corners...River Tista on the right hand side...Offf the feeling was just awesome. We faced some problems as we all were riding first time on the hills. And took some times to learn the basic rules, how to overtake and all...

As we decided earlier to stay at the Sikkim Manipal University, we did so. One of our rider knows a faculty stuff from SMU. What a beautiful campus. We stayed a night there and decided what to do next. Because we have heard that there was a heavy snow fall in east Sikkim. And it had been raining since last 7 days. So we were thinking whether we will get our permits or not.

                • Day 3: 7/4/15

We started our journey towards Gangtok from SMU campus at 8 A.M. We had to go to the Home department for our permits. We saw there many other riders from different corners of our country. We chated with them. The whole day went for this. We made our permits for east Sikkim. Then we had to get the approval from the ADGP Office or from the Sikkim tourism department. But when we got our permits, the both offices were closed. So we had to wait for the next day. So we decided to do that early in the morning. Because the tourism office opens till 10 a.m. and then it would be done at ADGP office. Our plan was to leave for east Sikkim the next day. When we went to ADGP office that was closed too. That office closes at 3 p.m. So we visited a spot there named 'Hanuman tok'. Spent some time there and visited the temple.

                Entering Gangok

As the whole day wasted, we searched a hotel near M.G. Marg, got freshed. And went to look around the Gangtok town and the M.G. Marg. When we were coming from M.G. Marg, it started raining cats and dogs. We again got tensed about our permits. Whole night it got rained.
Crossing our fingers we slept and we were praying for a bright morning next day.

We woke up early in the morning...and the bad luck continues...Because of the previous night's heavy rain fall the roads of east Sikkim were closed. They did not give us the permit... We were very much upset...And decided to visit the local site scenes....
We have visited Banjhakri falls, paragliding point, helipad, musium and a bouddha monastery.

On the way returning to our hotel after completing the local side scenes, it again started raining cats and dogs. Not again.... The same thing came in all of our minds. At our hotel we were all praying for the rain to be stopped and hoping for the roads to be opened.

                          Day 5 : 9/4/15

We woke up early in the morning....and went to the permit office at the very first hour.....but the roads of chhangu remained close. So we decided to go to east Sikkim through another way....It was via Rongli....It was the way through which we were going to leave East Sikkim. But following the road conditions we are entering through that way....
We left from Gangtok around 10 A.M. Fueled up our vehicles and started our journey. That day morning the weather was very good....As it was the hills..you can never predict the weather....from being a great sunny morning it became cloudy with in an hour...And started raining again...We stopped a bit and covered ourselves with our rain jackets....

As that was our first tour to hills...we had made some silly mistakes...like we forgot to carry rain cover for our bags...Some how we managed to cover our bags and again started our journey....From Rangpo to Rongli the road conditions were very bad....

We reached Rongli at around 4:30 P.M...we lost to many time in road due to rain...There was a check post...they checked our permits.....We decided to stay in a hotel for that night and will start discover East Sikkim next day...
We found a hotel there..A bit costly..as it is a remote area..
