Monsoon has started and this is the best time to explore places around Pune. Mountains, Clouds, Ghats, Green landscape make this place heavenly.
As the weather forecast said it would be Thunderstorm on Saturday, we decided to take one of the most beautiful route, i.e. Pune(home)-Mulshi-Tamhini-Mangoan-Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar-Wai-Pune(Home Run via NH4)

So the Ride started at 0620hrs from Chandni Chowk, which is the common meeting point for our regular rides. The Actual time to start was 0600hrs, but i was late, that gave others a change to have coffee at CCD near by .

    Start Point Pic.

(Clicked from my mobile phone, so please mind the qaulity)

First stop was somewhere at the Tamini Ghat, where the view was amazing. You could see clouds below you viewing from the edge of the cliff.

Selfie Courtesy @Aurobindo , Not to mention he recently got his selfie stick and suddenly the photographer in him came to live

Road Condition till Tamhini was mixed some bad patches, some really good section, winding roads with 3 hairpin turn. Overall a very good scenery road.

Next stop was Breakfast at orchard cafe at Tamhini, it was around 0900hrs and we all where hungry
This was the time when Kochu took out his weapon (Canon DSLR), shoot some really good portraits

After the Breakfast we resume our ride, good road from orchard cafe till Mangoan. we faced little traffic at Mangoan junction but i was not worth mentioning.
NH17 was fun to ride on as usual . Road condition was super, cruising at triple digit speed felt like nothing.
There was a point, where a Cow came in front of me from nowhere, luckily she didn't stop in the middle of the road and i had enough distance to slow down safely.
This high speed cruising ended up in ghats in Poladpur, where i was left behind with Auro & Sandeep. While others went ahead we where enjoying the view

And the Ride resumed again, Poladpur was fun and the nightmare stared as soon as we entered Mahabaleshwar. Horrible traffic at market, it took me around 30mins to just cross that traffic. Once crossed, things started getting better but once again at Venna Lake it was like nightmare part-2 . After over coming this 2nd traffic, my wrist started paining like hell. Once i thought of stopping, but i have to move on i was left behind and everyone were far ahead of me. I decided to keep moving slowly well within my comfort zone. After covering some good distance i saw Viper & Aman standing at entrance of a place called Table Top, i guess they were waiting for me. If they were not there i would have continued riding assuming that they was still far ahead of me.

So at the Table Top, the photo shoot started again. Table Top near Mahabaleshwar is really a amazing place. It's a flat land with cliff on one side, the view which one get there is truly unforgettable. Throughout the ride we where excepting rain as the forecast said Thunderstorm, but there were to traces of rain. We lined up our bike, relaxed and enjoyed the view for some time. Aman, who came all the way from Navi Mumbai, was getting late so he left after we took some group photos followed by Mr. & Mrs Viper who left few mins later.
This is not very often that such a large no. of people turn up for rides, so Group Photo to Banta hai

Superb pics! A perfect getaway from routine life. Looking at the fleet I wonder. Did the FZ and Avenger run out of breath trying to keep up with the other bikes? Or did the Triumphs get tired of riding slow?

Good going there. My riding buddy and I last Saturday rode from Pune to Kashedi Ghat on NH17 via Mahabaleshwar and your pictures bring to memory the superb day that was. Thanks for sharing some feedback on Tamhini Ghat road condition.

                  Pre-Monsoon Ride around Pune

                  Part-2: Malshej Ghat

In next 2 days, we finalised Malshej ghat, the reason being we never or say very very rarely ride on that road (i.e. NH50), and other being the Ghat has some really good landscape, road condition is average though. So everyone was ready, we were finalising the day-Saturday or Sunday and suddenly Shubham came up the news that there was a landslide at Malshej Ghat. Now we were having a second thought, should we go to Malshej Ghat or look out for other options. There was a mixed response on this, as some members were still ready for Malshej Ghat while some where concerned about safety. We all know that ghats are always landslide prone area, so if we think in that way we should never ride in any ghat during monsoon. Then suddenly it came into my mind that after landslide road condition might have got worst, so we dropped this plan and went back to drawing board.

Now a new place came in to picture, i.e. Kaas Pathar also known, as Valley of Flowers. During monsoon the whole plateau is covered with more than 50 different types of flowers, but the monsoon has just started there was no point in going there now, we saved that place for upcoming weekend. Finally we settled on Tapola Lake, which is around 30 km from Mahabaleshwar and 70 km from Satara. As we rode thought Mahabaleshwar last weekend and knew about the traffic condition at Wai & Mahabaleshwar, we decided to take another route that was via. Satara. This route would also gave us a long stretch of highway, but then we got update from a friend Eshan that road to Tapola is full of loose gravels after we pass Kaas. so without any second thought, we decided to ride to Malshej ghat as anything would be better than loose gravels.

Talking about the road condition of NH50, starting from Nashik Phata, NH4 till Rajgurunagar Toll Gate roads are good 4 lane highway, but once you cross this Toll gate, road become 2 lane without divider and condition is not good, there are some good patches but mostly condition is back, many bad patches.

Speaking about Malshej ghat, it is situated in Pune district near the borders of Thane and Ahmednagar districts. It is at a distance of 130 km north of Pune, would be same distance from Mumbai as well. A nice view of valleys is one of the major attraction here. During monsoon one can enjoy waterfall as well, which is has safety issue as this place is notorious for landslides during monsoons.

The first stop we took was somewhere before the starting of the ghat, where we spend good 1-2 hrs. Kochu and friend named Rahul were kind enough to teach some of us basics of photography. while they busy with this, i was busy doing my stuff

As soon as resumed riding, few rain drops started falling. Road condition of Malshej Ghat was good, although there was a landslide there few days ago. Riding in ghat was fun as usual, road where wet, heavy fog was slowing me down. Visibility was very low, i would say around 20-25%. The roads were narrow, which restricted me stopping a to clicks some photos, but rather than capturing that moment i was enjoying it. There was point, where as soon as you exit from a small tunnel, you see loose rocks, which will scare you as you this is landslide prone area and there was one few days. But the beauty of the place keeps you driving to ride though it.
Now i would let pictures to speak because it cannot be described it in words.

The Route decided as interesting, first high speed run on NH4 followed by off road, ghats, and bad patches of SH70 to Varandh ghat. We decided to return via NH17, Tamini-Mulshi route as we knew that SH70 Varandh ghat road was in bad condition, none of us would agree to ride back from this route. Compared to SH70 Varandh ghat road, SH97 Tamini-Mulshi Road is in superb condition :P.
There were many landscapes worth capturing but we missed because of heavy rain. Although whatever we capture are worth sharing.

A beautiful waterfall but a failed attempt to capture it in long exposure. Those people not welling to move out of it, so decided to wait, but later on more joined them. So there was not point in waiting for the spot become clear, so we moved on.
