  • [Photo Feature]: We bike to Kochi from Thiruvananthapuram and Back in a day

Monsoons sets by June and as per Met Dept it is the same this year too in Kerala. I had to attend a reception at Kochi. On the same day I had some official commitments at Thiruvananthapuram which were called off at the last minute. So the reception plan at Kochi was on. Wife had her words of wisdom and caution and promptly told to stay off the bikes for this trip and stick toTrain or Car. only two days before the all important day I came to know that Ican go to kochi. Time to plead with better half to take one of the bikes for the trip I was thinking. So for the trip on Sunday I told her on Saturday that come what may rain or shine please let me bike up. after some cajoling she relented with one condition. She is going to sit pillion. my hope that our Junior at home may not allow her mom on a bike trip vaporised as she gave thumbs up to her mom. my fate is sealed I thought as I dusted out the pillion seat on my Impulse for the trip. Even though the bike is In good condition had to do some minor prepon my impulse and I washed the bike, filled the tyres and cleaned and oiled thechain. using diesel and brush with bike on paddock stand the chain was cleaned and Castrol gear oil was applied. filled the fuel tank to the brim and the bike was ready for the trip. Any Keralite knows that during this time escaping rainswere normally not possible. So I had to pack every thing in plastic bags which were then tucked into my Cramster backpack . these were done on the previous day. I was Rain ready for the ride. at midnight it started to rain very heavily and wife was prompt to remind me "are you going to bike upin this heavy rain tomorrow ? I gave a vague reply and tried to sleep off. the rain continued and my phone buzzed at 4.00 Am I woke up to realise that it wasstill heavily raining. wife gave the first caution HARI dear you have to takeyour car. there goes everything I thought. I reasoned out that lets get ready and if the rain subsides by 5.00 am we will bike up else it is car. she said ok. So We got ready in bike mode as planned and at 5.00 am it was stillraining. I asked for another extension from my wife to push the time till 5.30am and she said this is the last. it was a long wait of 20 minutes and therains subsided. Shall we I asked, and she said ok we will have it your way.Hurray and it was Impulse to Kochi and back. it was raining lightly when istrapped the bag at the rear Thumbed the starter and started rolling. once onthe roll rain or shine just don't matter it is the ride. the target set tokochi we were on our way via Thiruvananthapuram , Kottarakkara , Thiruvalla ,Alapuzha, and Kochi around 220 Kms.

The reception at Kochi was at 12.30 pm so I planned to reach my aunts place Park my Bike and Wife there, change to meaningful cloths and attend the reception. I had to start back at the earliest at least by 2.30 pm so that I can reach Thiruvananthapuram at least by 7.00 pm.

I returned back from the reception at 1.30 pm and my better half had the latest family gossip from my aunt enough to take me head on. I suggested that we can have the fights later at Thiruvananthapuram and now we have dress up for return ride. that settled we started rolling back by 2.30 for Thiruvananthapuram. the route was to be the same as we had come.

The weather was cloud and rains but after Cherthala It started raining heavily. After that the rains continued on and off till we reached Thiruvananthapuram. Enroute I took the route via mannar and wife was keen to visit Parumala church. it was Sunday evening and raining so the crowd was less. As I had already visited the church more than a couple of times before and not keen to pull out my 12 inch long wet orazo boot we parked our bike in the bike parking lot in the rain I waited there while she went inside. After some time we started moving again in the rain. we had more than couple of stops especially since my neck was paining and some relief was there while I took off the helmet.
Could do only very sedate riding after sun set especially since impulse has a very poor headlight with equally poor focus. so it was a slow ride with some breaks till Thiruvananthapuram which we reached by 8.30 pm. Soit was another 448 Kms done in a day. before I wind up hats off to my better half to tolerate my madness and be part of it Rain or Shine.

Nice ride Hari sir. Always it's biggest task for everyone to convince better halves for rides. She joined you as pillion for such a long ride, hats off to her.

Hi, may I know why you took the longest route as far as I understand? I thought NH47 was the easiest route to kochi from Trivandrum. Is it just because MC road was better?

I go to work everyday where you took your pic Vetturoad junction, I recognized even when I saw the wall behind. 😂

the road is good is the main reason. and I like the crossing from changanassery to alapuzha. also at this point kollam city is a mess with a lot of construction still going on.
