Without further ado lets dive-in
Planning-
well planning was never a part of my trip.. and i never thought of doing this trip...
It was republic day... flag hoisting took place at around 10 o clock... left college at 11 with my friend since we had some work... went home.. sat on the couch thinking aimlessly.. my friend sat with me for a while.. then was just seein g maps suddenly it struck me... ooty on xcd... ya its kinda funny and nostalgic.. but yes.. on xcd with 2 hefty 80 kg riders... so first went to my friends house.. he freshed up a bit.. i got him a semi palm gloves... he was delighted to see the gloves.. i wore a pull over over my polo shirt for protection.. while he wore a flying machine polo.. and the only leg protection for us both were our woodland half slippers...he took his college bag.. filled it with a half face helmet a pair of sunglasses... some tissues and my home key.. i loaded my purse with 1500 rs as extra and took his ATM card as extra...
And left the house at around 1 pm.. so this is the only planning or rather a process...
Route taken,kms ridden,encounters-
After leaving his house at 1 pm we took the nanjangud route to gundlupet from mysore... traffic was somewhat minimal since it was republic day... reached gundlupet with 200 rs worth of petrol which was left in the tank.. refilled for another 600rs and believe me.. we never refilled again for the whole trip...
So the road till gundlupet was extremely fine considering it as a SH with minimal road humps...while refilling the tank... i took the liberty of buying a mineral water bottle 2 lays packets and a pack of cigarretes since i know the cold weather of ooty... after gundlupet the roads were somewhat bumpy... and it was not at all bad.. we could maintain a speed of 70 kmph... but then comes the bandipur toll gate...
Alerted senses of my brain pointed to the pack of cigarettes at the bottom of the bag... considering we werent even licenssed to drive a vehicle.. i was a bit scared but nothing happened.. he let us through.. the roads in bandipur are all tarmac and roadhumps.. the limit was 30 kmph i think...
we rode the bike at around 55 considering the less time we have on our clocks.. the scenery and the deers were extraordinary... so comes the KL and TN networks on our cell phones as we neared the end of bandipur... next comes the bike testing 36 hairpin bends... mind you we never stopped the bikes for anything except for fuelling at gundlupet..
we were at the 3rd bend when my watch showed 4 40(around) time was awfully short since we left at 1 pm...
the bends were utmost perfection if i may say.. as this was unbelievably too good to be true my friend was riding the bends since he was good at bending the bike... and on the bull view point we stopped to look at the scenery.. only then we realised the heat from the engine was unbearable..
it had burnt a small hole through my friend's jeans, right leg...
so left the engine to cool for 10 minuites while we cleared our bladders.. saw many riders on bulls,pulsars,dukes... with huge helmets, large protective gears and leather jackets... and we laughed at ourselves... the convo somewhat went like this.
Me-ooh shiny gear
Friend-ya look at them with those big bikes and gears brother..
Me-not as good as our flying machines and woodlands are they?
Friend-dont forget the pair of myntra glasses... ooh ooh and the half face broken helmet(the helmet did have a crack which i never noticed)
me-thats great bud... who knows we might be the first to climb this hill on xcd
Friend- that might be true.. lets run for now.
After the strentous hairpin bends..the bike galloped in the second gear only.. and alas it couldnt take no more...
On the final bend it gave up and died from the heat.. of course there was still something left in it.. but i had to walk a mile for it to cool down...thanks to the weather the bike cooled a bit and started again.. so again we went forward and then came the diversion err i mean the gate to ooty...
we stopped for a while watched the boards which said botanical gardens and botanical gardens it was... we rode up to the boat house where again the bike died so boat house it was(lol) roamed a bit bought some home made chocolates for the folks at home... ate a potato bonda along with a few egg bulls eyes and it was never enough for us since we had not eaten anything from morning...
time was running out 5 40 it was on our watches.. decided to explore ooty.. went a lil further into town.. bought ooty's trademark!(ooty apples lol) and drew some money from the bank from the atm incase we needed a few bucks.. lighted a cig and off to mysore... on our way back some interresting things happened...
Let me narrate...
On the bends we switched off the engine to cool it off... it cooled off quickly so did my hands... those semi palm gloves were my enemies now since it covered only half of my palm.. my fingers were numb.. smoked the whole pack still my body didnt heat up.. time again was reminded to me... so took the corners and bends at a steady speed of 50 kmph after the bends we were goin on the pot hole ridden road when suddenly a pack of elephants was visible in a far sight...
i slammed the brakes killed off the engine and sat on my bike cold sweating till it passed... after that we passed on only to find the bandipur gates closed for it was already after 6 but the limit was 7 so we enquired the head guy...
he was just quarreling with my friends and i took a 100 rs note from my purse... folded it to fit my hand.. asked the head guy for a handshake and passed the note... he was a bit surprised by this technique but he asked us not to repeat this again and he left us...
6 15 was the time near toll gate.. my friend rode the bike now like he stole it... encountered a few deers... and reached the karnataka part of bandipur toll gate at 7 something.... we slowed down a lil and was travelling at 60 kmph... it was enough for us so maintained that speed till gundlupet...
we were dead hungry by this time.. so decided to take a break and our stop was a punjabi dhaba... trust me this decession was the best one.. the food was extremely good.. my friend had 4 ceylon parottas with mutton curry.. i had 9 ceylon parottas with 2 veg currys and guess what? The bill amounted just around 600 rs... had a lemon tea to refresh myself bought a cig to warm up and was on our way...
then till nanjangud not a single vehicle passed by... not a single soul to be found... not a single road hump to slow down(except a few)... maintained a speed of 90 kmph... which was the max of the bike.. entered mysore city at 9 30... reached home at 10 15 dead tired..
Total kms travelled-354
Expenses-2100rs
conclusion-
We might as well be the first people to climb up in an xcd... i really dunno about that but the trip was awesome... the bike did give very little problem considerring our weight...overall this was a new expirience for me...
