Re: Riding Around Europe - Rise of A Weekend Warrior
Next morning i jumped into my tourist pants and went around the old town area clicking pictures and eating ice cream.

Kaunas castle is mid-14th century castle built in Gothic style.Located next to the banks of the Neris River.

Absolutely lovely,Rohit. These are scenes of a now peaceful land which had suffered mightily under the Nazis (Finland) and the the Soviets (Lat, Lith, Est).
Your profession is most enviable in that it allows you to wander hither and tither and yet get paid along the way.
Do keep up the excellent fotos and the simple, honest comments.

Re: Riding Around Europe - Rise of A Weekend Warrior
With a quick excursion in Kaunas centrum,I moved towards Vilnius. But before that i planned a quick visit to the very popular Trakai Linna.
The castle is situated on Lake Galve on the island. The castle represents mainly Gothic architecture and is flocked with lot of tourists like me in Summer time. Not to forget,it's a favorite spot for Lithuanian people as well.
Trakai Museum

Trakai Castle

There was a minor entry fees of 6 Euro for the castle and there was a music festival going on as well.Right inside the castle in the middle of it,I wonder if the sound waves might damage the weak ruins/areas of the walls.

Trakai Linna in its glorious days.

It started to drizzle a bit with lot of scary black clouds.I just sat next to the Lake Glave, grabbed a coffee and a local dish in trakai called as "Kibinai" and started munching my random thoughts.
We moved to Vilnius in the evening to wrap up another weekend and leave back to Helsinki through Air Baltic with a single Hop to Riga.Meanwhile in the hostel, met two Portuguese girls and another girl from Hungary. We got into some interesting conversation and they were going for party with few guys and asked me to join,But damn my bad luck i had early morning flight to Helsinki.Though i ended up having a
or two with a guy from Mauritius who kept the conversation lively by bragging "how Mauritius is better than India and places they can travel visa free".I just lifted a tissue paper in the end and said "Let there be Peace,Let there be more beer"

Re: Riding Around Europe - Rise of A Weekend Warrior
Everyday of the weekday was quite difficult to live with. Its Friday morning and Yippee we are back on the air overlooking the beautiful highway and alluring forests of Finland.

Still had to work for the rest of Friday and in the evening i was off to roam around Centrum. My hostel was quite close to the Gates of dawn.

Vilnius Town Hall - grand and beautiful

Palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania

A beautiful church from inside.

It was evening and this hill next to the Palace of Grand duke caught my attention. This was the Upper castle area and has a tower which is called as Gediminas Tower. It was a steep climb i had to go through to reach here, trust me it was sweaty and out of breath affair for a fat beer head like me.

View of the town from Upper Castle.

Church St Anne

Stumbled upon this wall with the artworks mounted on it,The wall is a sort of memorial to many famous writers and poets.

There were other wonderful places to be visited in Vilnius, but i decided to return back to the hostel and rest for the day.

Re: Riding Around Europe - Rise of A Weekend Warrior
From all the Polish people i have met on the way,the only two recommendation i got was to visit the coastal area around Gdansk and Tatra mountains around Zakopane.Poland being a comparatively big country,it looked quite challenging to scale the places i want to go over a weekend. It was difficult to make a choice between two,but i went ahead with Tatra Mountains
Spotted this beautiful wooden church as soon as i ventured in Poland.

And the centrum area, quite cheerful, alive and kicking.

Lots of statues

Back to the buildings in the centrum area.
Free Music gig and paid ,good combo to get drunk perhaps.

Took a U turn from here, realized that i have come too far and walking back is going to be a pain in the liver as it was time to feed it with some or Polish vodka.

Nice art work.

And beautiful sunset over Warsaw palace and old town area.

Came back to the hostel had three shots and next thing i know,it was Sunday morning already.Time to hit the road again

Re: Riding Around Europe - Rise of A Weekend Warrior
Woke up to a dark and rainy day. That cheapest Chinese rain suite i bought from the Clash Ohlson store in Helsinki was about to come handy in today's situation.Had a low side crash while i was exiting Warsaw, such a shame that i slipped on a zebra crossing.Slided for few millimeters on my butt, rubbing against the asphalt. No damage to the precious butt, but left indicator got screwed and the left mirror was loose.Screw threads of the mirror mount was broken.I decided to get it fixed in Krakow.
While i had a terrific start of the day, rain was going crazy and that is when the Chinese rain suite decided to give up on me.I could sense some rain drops sneaking inside from the joints.
Going directly to Krakow from Warsaw sounded quite mainstream, since i am quite fantasized by these medieval castles..I decided to take a detour and check out this Ogrodzieniec Castle.
Got pulled out for a routine check by Polisi and they noticed that the left indicator in front is not working.I explained them about my low side crashed and promised that i will get it fixed in Krakow. While regular paper check was done, curious cops asked me where i am headed.Name of the castle was bit difficult to remember,so i showed them a picture i took from the internet and they promptly replied with the name which i still did get it.
I nodded with affirmative expression "Yes,that one".
Cops - "This is 80 kms from here"
I am like this was 1 hour ago :O
May be i have been moving at a snail pace, blame it on the early morning slide i am bit conscious now on getting a free butt slide again
I waived 'bye bye' to these fellow gentlemen and i was back on the road towards this castle.
Soon enough i was at this castle and i wondered if the cops referred those 80 kms incorrectly or they meant some other castle maybe.Castle was in ruins but, even with that it looked beautiful from outside.Again a minor entry fee to this castle which has been utilized very well to maintain the tourist access routes inside the castle.

I booked my accommodation for the night in Krakow, when reached at the hostel i came to know that there is no free parking as they mentioned in the booking website. However they shifted me to other branch of the hostel which was bit far,but in a peaceful locality.Apparently the hostlers inside were not so peaceful at all, beds on the other corner of my dorm kept on rocking in the night and it was difficult to sleep with too much love in the air.
