  • [Photo Feature]: Kaza-Spiti-Leh (Hero Impulse)

Yaah, It had to be Ladakh now. After years of daydreaming came the day of revelation where few of us embarking on what we've been aspirating for since years "A trip to Leh", finally did that.

So we planned on doing Leh via Kaza and Spiti. With four Hero Impulse we had 2300kms of riding in 12 days, getting ourselves through all sorts of high and lows and finally casting ourselves in a scene which we've always imagined of !
    Sharing a few pics !

    Cheers !

As much as i am interested in seeing more pictures and hearing the tales of Spiti and Leh, i want to know how the Impulses performed as well. Good to see that bike there. Looks perfect for the terrain
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thanks and yaah the bike performed great other than few altitude sickness problems impulse has. No punctures, no niggles it ran through the treacherous Kinnaur with ease !

          Great trip!
Did you feel a lack of power in the high altitudes considering it is a carburetorred system ? Also, what is your take on the impulse on the long highways in the lowlands enroute to the hills ?

Did you consider panniers? I feel this could be our very own practical adventure bike, maybe a bigger motor. Something like the CSC RX-3.

Here is my experience with the Impulse's carb to Leh. http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/showthread.php?p=1172383

I have always love carb-ed engines and I'm used to them too. So i don't mind and notice too a little lack of power at altitudes i don't know even if it occurred. And tuning as that link might portray helps gain back that lost power !

I went with Rynox saddle bags no panniers per se. And on long highways i find it fine and easy going at 70-80kmph, also it depends upon a particular individual how he likes the 150cc motor on long straight stretches. Although it gets often irritating going at 70-80 or 90kph on straight roads when you have plenty of room to go beyond 100-120kph mark but the stock mill restricts you from doing so, but err...it variates person to person. I find it just fine.

Well ..CSC is something big. Bigger motor on Impulse means a Zma engine (done by lots of people now). As per practicality, nothing beats Impulse on those grounds. It lacks on a couple of aspects but overall it makes an excellent tourer !

Nice! So it is a hands-on project. But so much simpler and I suppose repairable. I should get myself a used impulse and start working on the mods. Currently switched to a CBR250R from a Bullet for sport-touring on highways and good roads. The impulse can be a DIY adventure tourer. Soon hopefully!
