  • [SlideShow]: Backroads to Avalabetta Hills

After the long Leh trip, riding was on a moratorium.
Decided to break it with a short ride though the backroads to Avalabetta Hills. Something like a Nandi Hill without the crowds.

Leh landscape is so beautiful that all pictures automatically come out well.
This ride was on a grey and bland day. Good for riding (no heat) but bad for photos.
          More to come.

            Re: Backroads to Avalabetta Hills

Sorry for the delay. here's the log.

After the Leh ride, riding had somewhat taken a back seat on the schedule. So when I managed to get a free Sunday, off I went. A short ride through the backroads.

            Route Map

Left early enough to give me enough time to leave the city before the sun rises. However there was a delay in the works.

Just outside ITPL, found a man lying on the road side. Assuming it to be one of the many drunks who are to be found at the hour I avoided the person and moved on. A few meters later it stuck me that there was a lot of broken glass a little down the road. Wondering that it may be an accident case, I turned around. I was correct. The person was bleeding and unconscious. A passing auto has also stopped. Called 108 and an ambulance was on the way. Few more people gathered. Wet a handkerchief and dabbed the person's lips with water. As the person gained consciousness, dug out his phone and had a Kannada speaking person call the last dialed number. Fortunately it was the victim's son. The ambulance was there in 14min. Pretty good I would say. Left after the person was taken away by the ambulance.

Back to the ride, the sun wasn't going to comply to my photographic needs. With the horizon firmly shrouded in clouds, I dropped the idea of any sunrise pictures. From Narsapura, turned towards H.Cross.

            Towards H. Cross

I have been on this road several times. A little down the road is a discarded old bridge which is a little raised from the surroundings. Sometimes I sit there taking in the view to enjoy mist rising from the ground. Stopped to take a few pics and moved on.

            On the Birdge

            Parked

Few Km ahead, found a small seasonal pond a little inside from the road. Off-roaded to the place and took some pics. Would have loved to grab a cup of team while enjoying the view.

            Serene

            Customary Selfie

Another small pond on the way

At H.Cross stopped for tea and a bun.

Village Temple with Flowering tree, just before Jangamakote Cross

At Sidalghata, turned towards Chikballapur and NH7.

Looking towards hill range where Avalabetta lies

            On the highway

At Peresandra, stopped to have breakfast of dosa and chutney washed down with tea. Then turned in on the backroads towards Avalabetta.

The locals were quite helpful in directing me towards the hills. Roads were good and riding through the fields is fun. The ascent to Avalabetta is short, steep and curvy. View from the top is marvelous. Greenery as far as you can see in every directions.

A six picture panorama looking South from Avalabetta. Nandi Hill is somewhere here.

            Temple atop the Hill

A five picture panorama looking North-East from Avalabetta.

After spending about half an hour on top, made my way down the hill. Was wondering which way to go back. One option was to take NH7 back to Bangalore. The other option was to head North and take some backroads to Chintamani and then make way to Bangalore.

Decided to take the backroads option.

            After reaching Peresandra, turned North.

A crooked tree on the way down

Was feeling a little sleepy, So at one of the many bus stops, took a short break.

Corn cobs drying in the sun.

At Bagepalli, turned towards Chintamani. The road has seen good times, but now it was dotted with patches of bad stretched.

            Road to Chintamani

Around 10Km before Chinamani, dark clouds covered the sky. Starting with a slight drizzle, it soon turned into a downpour. Took a break under a dense tree. Two persons on a cycle were also waiting there. After a short conversation in a mix of Kannada and Hindi, one of them asked me lift till Chintamani. The person was a teacher in a village school. He was surprised that I was going to Bangalore via that route. I don't think they believe me that I was taking the backroads just for the fun of it.

Once the rain slowed down, we left for Chintamani. After dropping the person at Chintamani, I turned towards Bangalore. Stopped for lunch on the Chintamani bypass. As soon as I started after lunch, the downpour started again. Stopped under the canopy of a petrol pump to take shelter.

Started again after the rain stopped. Reached home in no time as the road all the way to Bangalore was pretty good.
