  • my second bike ride to uttarakhand

Bhai log last weekend, I did a bike ride on ghaziabad, jageshwar, pithoragarh, lohaghat, tanakpur, rudrapur, Ghaziabad route. Putting the road conditions here-

Ghaziabad, moradabad bypass, thakurdwara, kashipur, kaladhungi, nainital- 315 km- This is the best route at present for nainital. Moradabad bypass to Ramnagar, the road is butter smooth with almost no potholes.

Nainital, khairna, almora- 67 km- Again good road perfect for smooth sailing.

Almora to barechinna- 22 km- Good road except a rough patch of 5 km. Now barechinna has a fuel pump too.

Barechinna to artola- 15 km- Smooth road.

From artola, jageshwar temple complex is 3 km (road built till the temple) on left hand diversion. It is situated in a valley surrounded with devdar trees. Many stay options are available near temple complex itself.

Artola to danya- 26 km- Again the best road with very scenic drive. Few km further artola, there is a fuel pump. Danya has a KMVN property which has just two rooms, one is two bedded and one is four bedded. Online booking can be done. Other than this, there are two smaller hotel cum restaurants at main market. We stayed at Hotel Anand. Rooms are alright for single travellers. Food is also very good.

Danya to panar- 30 km- Smooth road all the way. From panar, straight road leads to gangolihat, patal bhuvneshar, berinag and left goes to ghat.

Panar to ghat- 7 km- Rough road but doable as it the downhill journey till ghat.

From ghat left after crossing the bridge, goes to pithoragarh- 30 km- Newly built road with fresh tarmac. We had lunch at valdiya restaurant which is near bus adda at pithoragarh. Food was good. They have rooms too for stay too.

Pithoragarh, ghat, lohaghat- 63 km- Smooth road with scenic drive. About 5 km before lohaghat, at village marodakhan, a narrow road on left will take you to abbot mount (3 km). Go there if you like to have a wide view of Himalayas. We stayed at hotel ranjeet palace which is 2 km before lohaghat market. Newly built property with very nice rooms.

Lohaghat, champawat, sukhidhang, tanakpur- 90 km- Butter smooth road or I will say one of the best road, I have ever seen in mountains.

Tanakpur to khatima- 25 km- first 5 km is bed rest is good.

Khatima to sitarganj- 28 km- The worst stretch I saw in the whole trip. Uncountable potholes and dust all the way. Did not like it at all.

Sitarganj to kichha- 28 km- Road widening work is on and on completion it will be four lanes road but right now, mix of bad and good road.

Kichha to rudrapur- 19 km- road widening is on so again mix of bad and good roads.

Rudrapur to bilaspur- 15 km- This stretch surprised me a lot. I was expecting it to be the worst but it was not. Just few potholes in between, rest all was good.

Bilaspur to Rampur- 32 km- Again a surprise for me. The road has fresh tarmac and just had few unexpected potholes. Lot of improvement on this ever bad, rudrapur to Rampur section.

Rampur to Ghaziabad- 180 km- Butter smooth road all the way.

If there are any queries, feel free to ask.

Thanks a lot to all of you for these kind responses. The pictures are with my riding partners as I was not carrying any camera or a mobile with camera. Will post it soon.

Shivanshu Bhai, if going from Delhi NCR, take Delhi, haldwani, almora, danya, ghat, pithoragarh route both ways. It is the best one.
