  • A day trip to B.R Hills and Shivasamudram waterfalls

This is my first Tlog and first post on XBHP, read along and enjoy!!\m/
So here is the thing when we got back to home after riding rented RE(electra) for a period of 12days(Mcleod ganj --> Manali --> Leh --> Kargil --> Srinagar --> Jammu --> Mcleod ganj) I knew there is something missing from my life and yes you guessed it right.
I was riding my LML Graptor for close to 10yrs and it was not fit for going beyond 150km in a day so I knew I had to buy an RE.
Booked it in March-14 got my RE TBTS 350 Stone on 21-JUNE-2014, completed 500 in a week and then planned a trip to B.R Hills on 5july.
So we were 3 bikers on 3 bikes
    1) I - RE TBTS 350
    2) H - KTM Duke 200
    3) V - CBR 150

    The route we took
    Silk Board Junction --> Kanakpura --> Malavalli --> Kollegal --> B.R Hills
same route was taken while returning and a detour to Shivasamudram waterfalls.

H and V are roommates; on Friday night I got a call that Mr. H that Mr. V will not be riding with us due to some office work. with lot of mc/bc and talking(of course) we almost persuaded him but he did say NO at the end of that call. SO I and Mr. H decided to meet at Silkboard junction at 4:30AM.

On friday night I checked my bike, put all the necessary things to my bag and did a test load on the bike to know how it feels.
I woke up at 4AM called Mr. H to get ready and told him I have to feed my bike so I'll started at 4:30 to get to petrol bunk but to my surprise all petrol bunk was closed(one near KEYS Hotel and Shell Petrol pump near BOSCH) no worries.
When I was about to reach Silkboard got a call from Mr. H
Mr. H - Mr.V will be joining so they are arriving late at the meeting point
I - **** already at the meeting point is Mr. V ready
Mr. H - he just woke up
    I - @!$@(cursing) Mr.V
    Mr.H - we'll be there around 5
    I - OK...

I was standing there at the junction, there were biker groups starting journey and I was stranded
at last they arrived around 5:30, had a little chat and proceeded with our journey, refueled our bike at HP petrol bunk in BTM.
I was very much excited as this was my fist ride on my new bike and also to leave stale air of the city.

We were riding and soon our riding turned into cruising on the beautiful Kanakpura road. I must say Kanakpura road is one of the best road that I have cruised on, not a single pot hole and on both the side full green, I can only see Black color of Tarmac road and Green color of the nature it was awesome.
We did 50Km and stopped for Tea and urinating cursing Mr. V for getting us late, again started and had our breakfast after 50km there was a village
    some pics
    breakfast 4 delicious idils

Re: A day trip to B.R Hills and Shivasamudram waterfalls

      I am back..
then after a few Km we saw a shortcut on Google maps(I know when we are going for this long trip why do we need a shortcut just to explore more) so this shortcut has a name it's called Pipeline road narrow road smooth as butter and greenery both the sides awesome road to drive on, we drove on that for few km and took a quick pic break

after this we finally decided to stop at our destination.

While cruising Mr. V was going at 120-130Kmph Mr.H maintained 100-120kmph am I maintained 80-90kmph as still my bike is in run in period. so I was left behind at some point on the road there was a huge board stating B.R hills straight which was off from highway at that point Mr. V and Mr.H looked at Google maps and decided to continue on highway without informing me and when I reached that place I did what a normal biker would do follow the sign and took the other route which was through villages. There road was good both the side of the road were filled with sugarcane crops and following that route reached B.R hills check post.

In this checkpost they told to write name, coming from etc and asked me 10rs. I asked why then he looked at me and said go, I don't know why what happened but saved 10rs jumped on my bike started it and drove away to our destination.
Road to B.R hills from that checkpost was good but there were dirt/small stones lying on the curves of the road that made me to ride slow so after asking 2 locals in between reached B.R hills top and waited for my friends.
After 15min of reaching there I got a call from them and to my surprise they were still at that checkpost and paid 10rs each , I told em already reached( the highway route was long). So nothing else to do I slept on my bike for good 1hr as Mr. H and Mr.V accidentally took some other road that took them through the jungle.
Before realizing they already drove around 50Km in the jungle where there was no mobile network.
Finally we meet at our destination.
Roamed around for a bit to see the Temple and view point, from the view point scene was awesome and there are too many monkeys there trying to snatch anything form the people that was looking like a bag. After that rain started for about 15min we were stranded and then decided to move on the get some lunch. We were so into the B.R Hills atmosphere that we forgot to take any pics there.
      but it was like this

Re: A day trip to B.R Hills and Shivasamudram waterfalls

For lunch we had everything that B.R hills has to offer from idilis, fried chilli, fried potatochips, tea to some unnamed snack from the small bakery like shop,; there is also one CCD 3-4Km before the temple(on way to B.R hills) it's small shack like a Paan thela we didn't went there just for info.
After having snack we thought we'll rest for some time in foothill of B.R hills and somewhere in the middle we found out a good place we parked our bike and did some timepass here also no pic sryy guys.... while we were resting there was a drizzling rainfall that made super awesome climate there.
After 30mins or so we left and continued our journey to shivamsamudra falls.
In between we spotted some people standing on what looked like as the edge of the lake, we stopped our bike went to see and we saw this

the name of the lake is Krishnaiahna Katte. our own mini Jurassic park

we could see that half of the lake was empty and there were cattle heards there and we thought it will be a good place to relax and spend the afternoon. we started searching for the route and one wise kid there told us just follow this path.
We followed that path and it was superb it was like a mini ghat with no roads pure off road biking for 2-3Kms and we finally reached the empty space in the lake.
We can see flock of birds(the birds which have long legs and large beak like crane) there doing there thing we walked around a bit and we picked one big rock one for each and sat there and started discussing the mysteries of the universe and what lies beyond it(just kidding though we could have).
        some pics

we spent around an hour there and then decided to move on to the waterfalls.
The road was awesome we were experiencing patches of rain showering at us enough to make us little wet and then when our clothes are dry again little rain.
One thing what I like most is seeing image in the side view mirror, you can see a different world in those two we can see all the black clouds behind us and a surreal place that we just passed there was couple of moment where I screamed inside my helmet to let go my excitement. For me it's like a dream come true.

So after driving for couple of hrs we reached the waterfalls we reached there around 4:30PM and the security guard said I'll let you go there but you all have to come by 5pm after a little discussion we purchased the ticked and went to see the water falls.
One have to traverse lot of stairs to reach at the bottom of the falls, you will get many items to eat there it's like a buffet there and of-course there are monkeys trying to snatch the food.
one such incident happened with Mr.V he purchased one mango and the monkeys saw it, they made a full proof plan to snatch that mango from Mr V. They did a highly organized attack on Mr.V. It was like this one monkey got in front of him and tried to find the opportunity on the mango; 2-3 time the monkey tried and then next time when he tried Mr. V pulled his hand back and an another monkey snatched it and vanished into the greens.
Around 5PM security guard in the bottom of the falls asked people to vacate.

Climbing stairs was a mammoth task by the time we got to the top we were all wet; relaxed there for about 15-20min and headed for home.
Now we were driving separately because of speed difference Mr. V ahead driving at around 125-130kmph, Mr.H was 100-110 and I 80-90.
Around 10Km before Bangalore I spotted Mr.H taking a break so I also got down for a quick break, we then decided to ride parallel and it was also getting dark just after we entered Bangalore heavy rain started and we were forced to stand under the shed. It rained cats and dogs that day for about an hr and when the rain stopped we reached home around 8pm and Mr.V rode through the heavy rains and reached one of his friends place we all reached sound and safely.

Hope you've enjoyed reading it. Thanks

Roads are good but not great . There are potholes but you can drive over them without any strain; it's around 9-10Km from kanakpura road. Gates to the waterfall closes around 4:30PM so plan you bike trip accordingly.
