Hi Akshay, I have ridden only till Vazhachal (checkpost) from Kochi on the Valparai route, where the road is very good. But I believe the road from Vazhachal to Valparai to Pollachi is also good (not very bad for sure) and is one of best routes to ride your bike. I wish to do this some day.Originally posted by akshay View PostLast edited by SreejithS; 12-16-2015, 03:05 PM.

Beautiful Kadamakkudy - Short Morning Ride
Sometimes you do not have to ride that far to reach somewhere beautiful. And that's when you reach places like Kadamakkudy. Kadamakkudy is less than 20 KM from my place, less than half an hours ride. NH 17 from Kochi, take left at Varapuzha, ride for a few KMs and you reach this beautiful place which is a group of islands with pokkali paddy fields and fish farming.
There are also few Chinese fishing nets. Reach this place before 7AM and it is really serene. You only hear the chirping of birds. The water merges with the sky in distance as the sun rises. There is no traffic in this route since it ends in a few kilometers at Pizhala where you can catch a rowing boat, and occasionally a motor boat to get to the mainland.

Here is the ride video from my helmet cam.

Kochi Coastal Ride
Kochi is a coastal city (known as the Queen of the Arabian sea) with beautiful beaches and backwaters. Last weekend I went for a ride through the coastal roads of Kochi with random diversions and multiple beach visits. Here is the ride video from my helmet cam.

Re: Rides from Kochi
Ride to Nelliyampathy
Its been almost 3 months since my last day ride to Munnar and the itch to do another one became stronger. I have a list of destinations to do and selected Nelliyampathy - another hill station, in Palakkad district. Kochi > Thrissur > Nemmara > Nelliyampathy. Almost 140 KM single side, Nelliyampathy has beautiful estates, farms and tea/coffee plantations.
TL;DR
After each ride I up the preparation for the next ride. I got a Dirtsack tank bag to keep essential stuff, camera et.al for the ride. Usually I go with a backpack tied to the rear seat with bungee net. Also got some additional tools including a wheel spanner.
Woke up early and was on the road by 5.30 AM. I rode relatively slow since it was dark. There is also construction work going on between Kochi and Aluva for Kochi metro. After Aluva it is 4 lane NH 47 all the way up to Thrissur.
In Thrissur - Palakkad road I stopped at an Indian Coffee House which is a usual stop in this route for breakfast. I usually hate he idea of stopping for eating during rides and hence carry biscuits, but this time I was feeling more hungry and decided to stop - good decision. Had a good ghee roast (dosa) and hot coffee. Refueled at an adjacent pump and started towards Nemmara.
Again construction work in the stretch till Wadakkanchery before which I took the diversion towards Nemmara. Nemmara district in Palakkad has lot of paddy fields, but since summer is starting most of them seemed dried up.
The next major landmark is Pothundy dam which is on the way. After the dam the climb towards Nelliyampathy starts after a forest check-post where you have to enter details. There are roughly 10 hair pin bends on the climb up.
Being off season the traffic and visitors in the route was very less. So riding through sort of jungle road (no wild animals though - nature - road - wind - bullet) felt adventurous.
There are lots of waterfalls in this route if you come after the monsoon, but during this time when the summer heat has already started all of them have dried up.
(Pothundy Dam)
There are pavilions at various points of the hill road where you can stand and view the hills and plains below. Pothundi dam can be seen in the distance and the Palakkad district low areas as you climb up.
I might have reached Nelliyampathy top at around 11 AM. Here the scenery suddenly changes - because suddenly after a turn I am riding through tea plantations.
Nelliyampathy has lots of estates and farms and several view points.
I went straight to Seetharkundu View Point which gives an amazing view.
Started back without wasting much time. The ride down was great. Although bullet and cornering and distant words I really enjoyed riding down and doing the curves with a degree of lean. Reached the same Indian Coffee House at around 2 PM to have my lunch - vegetable biriyani and ginger lime juice.
The remaining part of the ride was hot and dry. I stopped frequently to hydrate and reached back at around 4 PM.
