A mesmerizing 4 day trip to Chikmagalur . The birth of what we now call , the "Hariathoo" feeling. 9 of us riders from Chennai took to the roads , to explore Chikmagalur and try out something new this time and yeah! , we did it well !. 1850 kilometers of adventure, camping, one crash(caught on video ) and much more. Some pictures to start off this thread with.

          Another teaser to this thread:

Some may find the title "HARIATHOO" a bit confusing, foolish even... It was derived from the Japanese word "Arrigato" meaning, thank you. However, the process in which it was derived is an entirely different story altogether :P Stay tuned!

We entered Hosur where we were welcomed by heavy traffic and the scorching sun. We maintained a single file and struggled to stay in formation . Here , one guy on a Chetak thought it would be fun to join us in formation , he kept swirling in between us and as usual Joe got pissed. By now you should have guessed how angry of a man Joe should have been , but the lot of us could never see him serious as he was so he ended up going near the helmetless Chetak rider and abusing him badly. Am pretty sure he would not have understood one word of what Joe spoke but he did not disturb us after that. I was laughing to myself through this incident .

We eventually caught NICE road, stopped for some pictures and water on the sides and rode towards Tumkur Highway. We had to take a left towards Tumkur highway where Sandy thought it would be fun to do a top speed run of his bike right now , he whooshed past Joe in the sweep and went straight and Jon went behind him to catch him not knowing we had to take a left even though signals were shown . We ended up waiting for the two at a distance from NICE road on Tumkur Highway. After sometime we got a call from Jon and decided that we would regroup at a petrol bunk at Bangalore-Mangalore highway. The lot of us reached there and waited again while these buggers decided it was high time to get lost somewhere in Karanataka. After some heated conversations over the phone we decided that we would ride towards Hassan and halt for lunch and they would join us there.

Our target was to reach Chikmagalur within nightfall so we could find a place to pitch our tent and pitch it when the sun was up. It was sunny throughout the ride upto now, little did we expect rain .All our rain gear was tucked away in our baggage hidden safe and sound. The skies opened up and we were welcomed to Chikmagalur fully drenched and shivering. In between we also explored an off road trial that took us to one of the most beautiful and untouched views. We had a quick photo session , geared up and we noticed we were one rider short! A short rider for the fact. Sandy had taken the AS200 up the hill and was struggling to take a U-turn back downhill on the off road trial.

After all this fun we reached Chikmagalur, found a CCD and went in for some hot tea. Enquired about places to pitch tent, it was nearing sundown so myself ,Joe and Jon went in search of a place to pitch our tents. At around 5 kilometers we did find a place to pitch our tent, it was some ration shop which had green lawn nearby . We enquired around if we could pitch the tent and people there did not have a problem and we started pitching our tents. I called up the others and some of them were hesitating to camp the first night because all were drenched and thought we should book a room . Joe was absolutely furious on this decision and when Srini was telling me he did not want to camp over the phone I passed on the phone to Joe. Srini being the sly fox gave the phone to Chetan and he ended up getting shouted at by Joe. So all of us were on the same page to camp after this incident and it was well past sundown , we had two tents up and we needed 3 more tents to be pitched.

So we ended up using the Tiger as a focus light now with the Denalis and pitched the other 3 tents , freshed up a bit, had some black coffee made by Joe. We got some dinner from a fast food shop , ate and went to sleep for the night. All our wet clothes were hung outside and we had a comfy sleep , our first camping experience which ended up being awesome .

And as morning came, so does dooties (pun intended!). While some of us had no qualms about fertilizing the soil in the great outdoors, a few of our riders needed a much more low profile means to empty their bowels. They headed to a nearby Coffee Day, ordered a coffee and used the restroom. No, the coffee was not delivered to the restroom!

Meanwhile at the camp site, myself, Ram, Sandy and Naetta were standing guard over the tents and the bikes, but we were less than prepared to what happened next! The local people, seeing our bikes, were super curious to find out what we were doing there. Within a matter of 10 mins, there was a crowd of around 30 people surrounding us, with more coming in! Curious as they were, they asked a lot of questions, and we were more than happy to answer! Out there we were like celebrities, back here in namma Chennai, we were just another guy. We soaked up the moment. :P

Soon, Joe and the others returned from their early morning sojourn, we packed our tents and got into our gear and loaded the bikes. The plan for today was to head for Kemmangundi, but first, we needed to have a well-deserved bath! So the first priority was to find a waterfall of some sort. The whole idea of this trip was to live off the land as much as possible, to be self-sustained and not rely much on anything else. We were so used to all our creature comforts of the city, and it was high time we connected back to nature.

Awesome write up. This is what we call a proper adventurous ride. Almost everyone's dream ride. It would be helpful if you could write the maps co ordinates of places to pitched the tent.
