  • [Photo Feature]: 1000+ kms

When one has been the proud owner of the Yamaha FZ16 for over five years, passion manifests within. Whether it is making indelible journeys of 70k+ kms on my beast, or sharing the memoirs. So here's another adventure from Magnum's diary.

After the Spiti trip in June '15 (another blog in the pipeline), I had planned to scale Ladakh. However, the carburetor urged me to return midway. This helped shape my thought of an upgrade. So, my dilemma in Delhi was, to sell it or send it. My younger brother cajoled me into sending it through to him at Jabalpur. My commuting options thus ranged from borrowing two wheels from my friend, or use four of mine, and from time to time hire'em (Bus no. 11 :-) for four long months.

During this time, I pondered over the Duke390, and relocating to Bangalore on account of being far too long on bench. The latter happened. My HR, the poor fellow thought I wanted to explore new projects, while you guys, I know, are wiser (lord save my company). Expectedly, my bike hunt began on Bangalore day 1, but I was soon longing for my old companion. I enquired about the courier charges, and thus, quickly decided to ride it all the way from Jabalpur. After attending a friend's wedding and paying my condolences (just kidding), we united (me and my bike). It's worth mentioning, that that same carburetor in its last minutes, was to help me sail through till Pune, thanks to "limited" spare parts with Yamaha Jabalpur.

At the crack of dawn, with the sounds of revving, my machine broke the silence. The sun soon rose, but my bike, not even above 70 KMPH. It seemed much more critical to have my carburetor hold on through Jabalpur - Sioni - Nagpur - Amravati - Mehkar - Jalna - Aurangabad - Ahmednagar - Pune. Phew... a long 1000+ kms. Some of the views captured are shared below.

With the exception for a misguided turn to patchy road before Jalna, the roads treated me pretty well. However, after cruising for more than 13 hours, my stamina started to give way . Whether to cut it short at Aurangabad, or to try making it to Pune by midnight.

I kept going, even enjoying myself, but it was finally a heavy downpour that made me consider a halt, more seriously. The nature's signals were vivid, and my will, livid. With 40+ kms to go after Aurangabad, I pushed though, steadily. The route to Pune was conquered after a long battle by a lone ranger, against all odds. I took my helmet off at half past midnight and raised it, almost like a centurion batsman. The blessings were a sense of victory, a sound sleep and last, but not the least, the joy of riding.

FZ is one hell of a bike. Don't know why people underestimates it only because it has less number of ccs!
            Nice write-up.
