myg124: Thanks for all those words. Well at that point i wanted to avoid big cities as much as possible

        • Praveen: one question about the bikes tuning bit in the high alts.. Did you used to fiddle with it or you managed all the while with the tuning which used to be done in the services done all the while?? esp in Leh where the temps fell below minus in the evenings.

          • Thanks Yuv_Biking

Myg124: You dont have to worry about tuning due to low temperatures. But i did fiddle with tuning at high altitude. Most of the distance the bike ran with regular tuning. When i gradually gained altitude, when the bike started struggling in second gear then i use to unscrew the airscrew by half a turn. Then bike would run in 3rd gear. Then again when the bike struggled in second i used to unscrew half a turn more. Did it thrice before scaling Marsimek La and at the end the max i could do was 20kmph in 1st gear near the top.

                  • my best wishes are with u as u are back home safely and healthy.

hope u didn't get any long journey ailments like backache and neck problems (actually i have both ,so i was just wondering how much it affects after such long journies)

n praveen, as u are a man of knowledge and experience after such an escapade, u should write a compiled version. book or travelog or something..for bigger audience.

and can u start a topic on just " what to do n don't about long tours ".
i might find it somewhere else also, but having it on xbhp by you (who has crossed every terrain ) would be just awesome

                      amitesh: Thanks for the wishes
As for ailments, a back muscle is still stiff and physio therapy relaxes it for some time. Well its not the same for every one and the muscle of mine was week ever before the trip.

Compiling a version is in thoughts but too lazy to act on it yet. hope i start before its too old...

I hardly suggest what i used to do on the trip. Some times used to skip meals and all. But one thing that helped was staying away from junk food as much as possible and no biscuits, snax etc between meals while traveling and having simple food helped.

And what about not eating biscuits - i heard they provide energy during trips..

                        • No guatam, there's much much more to india and i have hardly seen anything. missed the entire central india.

as for biscuits, they do mess up the tummy. But instead carry chocolates heavy ones like 5Start or Barone. They give instant energy when needed. 1 bar of it will keep you going for an hour!

                              • As I remember correctly, Just 1 year ago... Tomorrow (9/3/2009 at 8:00 A.M) the day of your Epic - Journey "Destination Unknown" began.

Congratulation bro....by remembering that moment. You are still the No. One tourer/ adventurer.

When-ever I read your stuff, one movie name came into my mind i,e "Into The Wild" which I watched long time back.
