Re: The Grand Ooty Ride - April'16
Total distance : 630 Km
Bikes : Pulsar 200 NS, Avenger, CBR 250R
No of days : 2
Route : Bangalore-Mysore-Masinagudi-Ooty-Kothagiri-Kodanadu-Ooty-Masinagudi-Bangalore
A friend(@saintsandy) posts in one of the whatsapp group that he was travelling to ooty the next day . I texted him asking if he was going alone and if i could join him. This is how the trip was planned and it was decided withing few minutes. another friend @bagarr joined us the next morning at Mysore road nice junction which was our meeting point at 5am.
By 5.15 am we were on the road riding towards Mysore. For our Mysore road had less traffic at that time of the day and was comparatively cooler. There was fuel suppliers strike in Karnataka which resulted in no fuel in Bangalore. By thw time we started it was confirmed that the strike was called off , even then there was no fuel available in Bangalore that morning. We decided to take a risk and by the time we reached Mandya most of the Fuel stations were operational. Being delighted at the sight of availability of fuel we fed our rides well and stopped to feed ourselves at the exit of Mandya town.
From there the situation was just to get baked in the sun all the way till Ooty. Traffic was on the higher side form Mysore ORR exit till Nanjangud as there were lots of deviations because of the construction work that is going on in that stretch.
We managed to reach Ooty by 1 pm and found a decent stay and decided to rest for an hour. Meanwhile in the masinagudi ghats the NS coolant had leaked due to overheating and there was some problem with the cooling system. We decided to get the bike checked and get the coolant refilled in Ooty and then head towards Kodanadu view point. But there was other things that were planned for us that day. When we took the bike to the SVC the mech seemed confident enough about the problem and told us that will try to find out the cause of the problem. this R&D went on for about 2 hours and it was 430 by that time. It started pouring heavily in ooty all of a sudden. By Then we knew that we were going no where and decided to roam around in the town. The mech in the SVC managed to give a temporary solution and informed us that it will hold good for now and that we can ride back to Bangalore without any problem.
Translation : Shoot us with a camera and not with a Gun.

Re: The Grand Ooty Ride - April'16
The next day the plan was to go visit Kodanadu View point in the morning and then if possible visit avalanche and return home. We started at 6 towards the Kodanadu estate. This is one awesome stretch for people who love curves. The road was almost empty in the morning.

Good going there. Your travelogue brings back good memories from my ride to Ooty a few years back. Wonder if those 36 hairpin road conditions are still good? Loved the pictures especially of those yummy looking ice creams and the bikes posing amidst the fog.Ride To Live

We reached Ooty from kodanadu at 12:00 pm. The next plan was to Head towards Avalanche. Unfortunately it started raining heavily once again and our Avalanche plan got scrapped. Then we decided to go on a safari in Bandipur and then head back. We took the Masinagudi route again to save time and reach Bandipur asap. On a Blind curve in the Hairpins a KA registered Maruthi Suzuki Swift had toppled on the road and luckily no one was injured. The incident had taken place just a few minutes before we reached there. We parked our bikes in a safe place and started managing the traffic as it was in a blind curve and The traffic was piling up. All the passengers were safe and had minor bruises and i had a first aid kit to treat them. we were there for about 2 hours untill the towing truck came for rescue as the family didnt speak Tamil. We managed to turn the swift on its wheels with the help of few more travelers and loaded it on the towing truck. Im glad that no one was injured and the car landed on the right side of the road or else it would have been fatal. The reason for the accident was the driver wasnt in the right gear and as he entered the Curve(Right turn) he realized that he was too fast and reacted with steering hardly to the right and hit a tree . to his good luck he toppled right next to the tree and no vehicle was behind or ahead of him.
From there we decided to head to Chamundi hills and take some rest there and then head towards bangalore.
