Re: Exploring South India - Part 2
The Trip Failed from here on
Day 8 : Chal ab Jog falls, Dudhsagar aur Goa
Kozhikode - Mangalore
I will try to keep this episode short as there is nothing much to tell and show from here on. We started off from Calicut at around 9 am, the sky looked strange, dark and gloomy. We started riding through the narrow roads of Kerala, which was actually a herculean task to do. Almost every type of vehicles ply on those narrow highways - from Trailer trucks to bicycles.
After we had our "brunch", the weather changed, and for bad. It started to rain, fierce rains!! We wore all the rain gears we had and continued, thinking the rains wont stop. We were actually right. The rain just never stopped. We crossed state borders, had to face traffic jam for kilometers, but being on a motorcycle and having a little off-roading skills did help. We rode in soft wet off-road and made our way while the rest of the traffic stayed in its place for don't know how long.
Finally we reached Mangalore at around 6:30 pm. Totally drenched till the core. We entered into a restaurant and ordered lacha paratha and curry. Much needed food and butt break. We were literally shivering. The rain coats turned out to be the biggest failures throughout the trip.
BOMB DROPS
:
I checked my phone, there was a text message from my father, it said : "Cyclone approaching. Come Back ASAP".
A chill ran down our spines. We opened Indian Insat images and checked weather forecasts and that gave even bigger shocks. Yes a cyclone was approaching India and center of the cyclone (Ashobaa) was a little south of Goa. It was already raining heavily in Mangalore with strong winds.
Made few calls here and there and we were suggested to stay back in Mangalore for the night and then move away from the coast line the next morning.
We searched for lodges and located one within an hour and stayed there for the night. Chose a good hotel so that atleast the place would have good structure to protect us and our bikes for the night. It rained all night.
We were a little scared about the cyclone thing.
We decided to get up early and run (on our bikes
) towards Bangalore the next morning to be on the safe side
We did not click pics due to the fierce rains, still a few :
Last pic clicked in Mangalore before boarding our lodge.
Apologies for the low quality phone camera pics.

Re: Exploring South India - Part 2
Damn man, what an amazing Tlog this is. I don't have words to describe how beautiful the images are and how badly I want to take the same route right now. In bit of a mess right now, otherwise I swear I would have packed and left right now, in the middle of the night. This is how amazing your pictures and description is.
God I have missed xBhp and all the wonderful folks here.
Best luck my friend and have many such adventures in the future.
Also, how do I subscribe to a thread? It's easy on the Android app but I can't find anything on the page. There is no happiness for him who does not travel!

Re: Exploring South India - Part 2
Day 9 : Bhai bhaag jaan bacha ke ....
Mangalore - Bangalore
Basically we were panic stricken, so all we did after waking up was to pack our stuff and run towards Bangalore as fast as possible. The sky was still cloudy but it wasn't raining. We just loaded our saddle bags, checked out our hotel and started riding towards Bangalore. We had to take a different route towards Bang as the main highway was closed due to renovation work - informed by our very close biker friend Dempsy.
The initial kilometers were interesting and fun through ghats, which later landed on Hasan - Bang highway, long 4 laned straights. Both of us were extremely sleepy post lunch, so we slept under a temporary shed made by a coconut seller beside the highway. The shed was empty so we utilized the shed.
We reached Bangalore by evening and stayed in Bangalore for a day at Dempsy's place.
.... We also met our old bikerni friend Supriya, chit chatted about our journey so far.
I also got the chance to meet Girish and Pavan who happen to be good friends of mine ( met for the first time).
Pavan also requested me to visit his place to ride his crazy 250 CC Impulse (Fury), however I was too lazy and tired to visit is place.
We started from Bangalore for Hyderabad at around 12 in the night, rode really inconsistently throughout and reached Hyderabad the next afternoon.
We also got to know that cyclone Aashoba did not hit India, it got diverted towards Oman claiming many lives and damaging huge.
We were sad that the last leg of the trip failed which was planned to be GOA !!!
.. we wanted to cover Jog falls, Dudhsagar and Goa in the last leg of the trip but that failed.
But like the saying goes, There is always a next time !
Last few clicks :
Last pic of our trip
THE END
Thanks you for following my log.

Re: Exploring South India - Part 2
That sounds quite bad, especially because of the places that you'd wanted to visit.
But hey, better safe than sorry
