• Once upon a time, RR and GT went to the Alps...

So many things happened on this ride, so many things to tell, so many pics and videos to prepare, 3323kms in 10 days, but first, here are the teasers

    The mighty Grossglockner of Austria!

Cornering with luggage is sure fun

James Bond street at Furka pass

My friend Nanda on his first ever trip to Europe, had quite an adventure riding the SuperDuke GT on Alps!

RR waiting to take on those corners...

You might've read my log from last year Mission Alps : Accomplished so this is the sequel with my own bike

Re: Once upon a time, RR and GT went to the Alps...

This will mostly be a trip log with pics. More details about the events of each day will on the vlogs

Our first day plan was cancelled and we had to stay back in Munich. Why? You will know in the next vlog
So we start the next day and we plan to directly go to the destination of our second day, almost two days worth of ride in a single day!

At the hotel in Munich, we purposely chose that parking spot, Rossi fans will understand

And the sticker of Indian flag goes on the bike. I was inspired by Haroon who always puts the Indian flag on all his international tours so I had asked my friend Nanda to get some for me.

After a pretty boring ride on traffic filled German autobahns, we made it to Austria and took a photo break.

Nanda was already excited about these landscapes and I was telling him to wait for a bit longer for even better ones!

Spotted this BMW at a petrol station.. its from 1988!

First sighting of snow mountains somewhere in Austria..

Before the starting point of the most famous road of Austria, the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse.

As can be seen, the peak of the Grossglockner mountain is 3798m but the highest point we can ride to is around 2571m.

The road to Grossglockner is a private toll road (25 eur for motorcycle). One can either come back the same way or exit on the other side towards Italy. Once you pay and cross the toll both, you can ride/drive any number of times to the top and back down as long as you dont exit the toll both (or maybe you could exit the toll both and still go back on the same day, I am not sure).

Somewhere on the way, the views were just brilliant!

It was rainy all along but the clouds gave a different look for the landscapes...

It was patiently waiting for our photoshoot to complete

Once we reach the top, there is a special cobblestone road which goes to Edelweisspitze which is the top most point allowed on vehicle. It was completely foggy and this was view while climbing up.

Relatively less stickers compared to other similar boards

There is an inn here and one can actually stay overnight.

        Camouflaged Tesla!

Clouds playing Peek a boo with us!

You look in any direction and this is all you see!

We then came back down to the actual view point. What a place to park the bike. Because of unfavorable weather, there were very few bikes. Had it been sunny, I can imagine how crowded this place would be!

No wonder this place is famous!

        Indian flag flying high!

There was a restaurant and this was view from the window! We hogged the sandwich and fries like in a minute!

We still had a long way to the hotel that night... to be continued...

oh that would have been a bit tricky riding on wet roads.

              Awesome pics, as always!

Once I have donned my black helmet, I become anonymous. My face ceases to identify me. My black visor shields others from the rigours of my passing glance while shielding me from their attempts to peer into my soul. I am an anonymous rider shrouded in black. I am no longer a specific self. I am a passing Traveller.

We were riding casually just enjoying the landscapes so it was quite fun! And we were both in rain mode as well

Re: Once upon a time, RR and GT went to the Alps...

After our tummy was full, we started off towards Arabba, our destination of the day.

The restaurant seating at the top, not the best day to sit outside!

One of the many tunnels on the way...

And back to the amazing views!

Just a couple of kms away and we see lot of snow.

                    RR wants to play!

After that we were riding towards Italy and it was also getting a bit darker.

A quick pitstop for a break.

No, we didnt go into VW service, just stopped outside

And thats the border crossing from Austria to Italy!

We still had few mountain passes to ride on but the sky was already darker. We were not even sure if we could make it into hotel by 11pm as thats when the reception was supposed to be closed.

And then my low fuel lamp lights up!

But no worries, we still have several towns on the way,we can fill up over there. So I put Gas station on my GPS and it took us to first one but there was no gas station there! Just some building under construction and several shops around it, all closed.

Ok, so we go to next one and that doesnt have machine payment and one has to pay to the attendant inside the store, which is obviously closed for the day as its too late!

Fine, we go onto next one and that has diesel and something called Senza Pb. What on earth is Senza Pb? Petrol is almost always indicated by octane rating in most places (like 95, 98) but this had nothing.

Asked an old Italian guy walking nearby and he knew zero English I didnt want to take a risk by filling something which is not petrol so we decided screw it, lets go directly to hotel.

The tank range on console finally came down to 31kms and the sign boards showed 30kms to Arabba! I have no clue how accurate the console reading is and we were already on pitch dark mountain pass roads! So what happened next? You will soon find out
