              Beautiful Himachal On CBR 250R

So the day finally arrived for the Himachal trip. We set the alarm for 4 am so that we can leave by 5 am, but, the same thing like the last time happened. The alarms kept on buzzing & we kept on sleeping. I suddenly woke up & the time was 5:15. We had a quick shower, a cuppa tea, picked up the packed saddle bags(Rynox stacker that was bought 2 days before) fixed it to the bike & off we went.
It was drizzling when we left home, & we were praying ... No rain pls, no rain pls. Thankfully the drizzle stopped while we were close to dhaula kuan. I got the tank full at azadpur, & somehow I forgot which turn I have to take towards chandigarh. I was just recalculating the road direction when suddenly I saw a green HRTC bus with Delhi - Shimla board, & that was it ... Followed the bus for about 1-2Km m. That's when I saw the sign board directing us ... We crossed Delhi & headed towards sonipat ... The roads r fantastic ... Touching speeds of 120-130 easily. We reached sonipat around 7 am & the colorful dhabas started ... All I could hear was begum's voice "paratha" "paratha" "paratha". On hearing this my stomach also started to yell "paratha" "paratha" ... So we stopped for parathas n tea at a dhaba. We didnt wanted to stop at sukhdev dhaba coz it would have lots of people & that would eat up a lot of our time. So we were happy at this dhaba & the parathas were nice with butter & achar. I Had 3 parathas n 2 cuppa tea. We had a sutta as well. While having the sutta I noticed that the owner has not moved his head even a little bit ... He was so engrossed in his tab (maybe it was new) that he didnt even look up when i went to pay the bill. He called the waiter "abey sir ke paise kaat ley". Weirdo ...!!!

We left the dhaba & moved ahead. After riding for about for another 20 odd Kms there was a traffic jam as a truck carrying veggies had turned turtle, & I was wondering how come its on the wrong side of the road ??? And begum was like "yo haryana se chhore" in the same tone as Vin Diesel in fast & the furious "This is Brazil" ... We laughed heartily at this tone, negotiated the traffic & twisted the throttle once again.
The road was so amazing that we covered almost 100 Kms in an hr. We touched ambala & then begum started once again "sutta" "sutta"...we stopped at Jhilmil dhaba oooppppssss Zhilmil dhaba ... It was a nice dhaba near the paddy fields ... Had tea & suttas ... The tea was as if the tea leaves were boiled in pure milk on slow flame for a long time ... The essence of the tea mixed with a little bit of cinnamon was amazing.

We crossed ambala & reached Zirakpur. & now a funny thing happened ... I knew that from zirakpur we have to go right for shimla, but there was a sign board pointing shimla to the left & this confused me ... I didnt take the flyover but instead I took the road adjacent to it which was going under the flyover & suddenly it started to rain cats & dogs ... I parked the bike on the side & we took shelter under the flyover. Begum: "it was a ur good decision & far sightedness that u took this road". Me: "yes of course, i could see the rain coming towards us from the distance." (What was I saying ??? I didnt see anything, i took this road by mistake). Finally the rain stopped after about half an hr & this was enough to flood the roads & build up the traffic snarls as the signals stopped working ( its the same thing that happens in gurgaon ... 2 drops of rain & the traffic signals stop working), i was in dubai for almost 9 yrs & i never came across such situation even though when it rains or there is hail. Once the traffic started moving we got on our speedo n started to inch ahead. 2 signals were crossed with ease but the 3rd signal took its toll. As soon as the traffic cop signalled for our lane to move, we started to move slowly & I could see water & lots of it on the road, we were going through the water slowly & the woman in the car in front of us braked ... No option but to put the feet down ... Road kahan gayi ??? At last my feet touched the ground & both of my legs were in 2 inches short of knee deep water. Luckily my speedo has a raised exhaust. Good choice on the bike selection. Somehow we moved out of the water & took the right turn towards himalayan expressway. All i could feel was my wet socks & it gave a weird squishy feeling. Then came another pond on the road ... This pond was uneventful tough the water was so much that we couldnt see the median on the roads. Begum was mumbling "kaha tha na ki car wali auntiyon se door raha karo, unke pee he bike mat lagaya karo, dhakkan.". I was just smiling ... When she gets annoyed, she looks even more beautiful.
We crossed panchkula & the moment we got down the last flyover to reach the toll gate ... Heavy rain...i could see in my RVMs that the flyover is not getting any rain, we took shelter in the guard cabin. The cabin started to get over crowded, the guard told us to go back & rest in the control room. We went to the control room & sat outside the first aid room waiting for the rain to stop. 30 mins passed, 1 hr, 2 hrs passed but no signs of rain stopping any soon, finally the rain slowed down to a drizzle after about 3 1/2 hrs, & thats when we discussed to move ahead. Other people who had taken shelter there told us that there is no rain after 2 Kms. We were hungry by now, so we moved out. Just before the left turn of Pinjore gardens there's a Pinjore Dhaba ... Must try their dal makhani ... Its a small shack but the food is good, place is hygeinic with waiters who r well dressed & speak proper english. Once we finished our lunch, the manager asked us about the food quality & we gave a good feedback to him. He thanked & wished us good luck for our further journey. We thanked him for his hospitality & moved ahead.
We crossed 3 signals & took the turn towards shimla & believe me it was a sight ... Phones came out of the poly packs & the shooting started.

                    PART 2

We took lots of pics & moved towards the hills ... The hills gave way to the mountains which were covered with clouds & fog ... The greenery...the majestic mountains ... It was all breathtaking & we were mesmerized like we always get when we are in the mountains ... We are mountain people. The road leading towards Solan are not in good condition as there were some landslides & the construction was going on to build a wall like structure to prevent the rocks from falling on the road. It was all slushy with lot of potholes for about 10Km & this made our speed slow. Once we crossed Solan, the roads were again smooth but I was driving slow as we wanted to capture the beauty of God's canvas in our eyes & cameras. It was just WOW. i still cant get over it.

This beauty was so breathtaking that we were going at snail pace towards our destination i.e. Kufri where our resort was located & the room was booked. I booked in kufri so that it would be easier for us to go to the surrounding areas like Theog, Fagu, Chail, Shilon bagh, Sadhupul, Narkanda etc. Shimla is highly over rated & crowded place so we just took a night halt for shopping.
We took the Shimla Kufri bypass via the Dhalli tunnel ... This tunnel was built in 1870 & only one side vehicular movement is allowed as it can fit only one car & pedestrians. So the traffic from one side is stopped for the other sides traffic at the intervals of 2 mins.

The higher we went it became more beautiful. The road to Kufri was lined with dense covered forests on both sides & the fog was making it darker. It started to rain again & took shelter in a tea shop. When the rain stopped we moved again ... Kufri was 2 Km. Upon reaching Kufri town, I called up the resort & adked for directions, & I was told that it is located 1 Km uphill on the kufri chail road ... This was a steep climb. We reached the resort checked in & had tea & took some more pics.
