  • [Photo Feature]: The Dussehra Ride (40hours, 856 kms, 4 bikes)

Hey guys, this is my 1st long ride experience thus my 1st travelogue.

A week before the Dussehra/Dasara weekend my friend (A) who lives nearby came to my place in Bengaluru and said lets go to Mysuru next weekend on his bike FZ-S, to which I instantly agreed as he had a minor accident last month and I was supposed to ride his bike to Mysuru We called up our friend in Mysuru (B) and told him about our plan. Next we called up one more friend (X) to ride with us and take another friend (C) as pillion on his Avenger 220 Street.

After a few hours I got a call from my friend B and he asked to confirm if we are really coming or not as he got a call from his girls gang in Banglore to show them Mysuru. I confirmed him and asked him if we can ride to any other place nearby Mysuru as Tuesday was a holiday us and we can take leave on Monday, he suggested Coorg. I asked my friend Aand X if they are willing to go to Coorg to which X replied no as he has been there last month only, then hesuggested lets go to Chikmagalur instead to which we all agreed.

Now the plan was finalized. We were supposed to leave from Bengaluru Saturday morning, visit some places in Mysuru that day, then leave for Chikmagalur on Sunday Morning, return to Mysore on Monday evening and then back to Bangalore Tuesday morning. And X was supposed to do hotel booking for our stay in Chikmagalur.

Meanwhile, I asked one more friend (D) who lives in some small town near to Dharwad to join us from Mysuru. B's younger brother (E) lives in Bangalore too, and was supposed to join us on his FZ with his roommate (F).
B was hesitant to ride his roommate's Pulsar 150 2002 model who is abroad now and asked us if he should book some 4 wheeler to visit Chikmagalur, to which me and X replied no let's ride. So, now, D was supposed to be B's pillion.

On Wednesday, I got a call from X saying that he talked with some of the Homestays and none were available during our visit, he asked me to try also. I opened Goibibo and saw only one hotel in Kadur (40kms from Chikmagalur) was available for 8 persons. I informed all and booked the hotel soon after everyone confirmed. Now everything was finalized and we were all ready for our Mysuru-Chikmagalur trip

A story is not good without a twist in the plot, isn't it? On Thursday afternoon, X called me and told that he won't be able to join us as he needs to go office on Sunday, I asked him to convince his supervisors, tell him you already have a plan. After sometime he confirmed that he won't be able to make it to the trip as it was important for him to work on Sunday. X goes out, now 7 people and 3 bikes, poor C who was supposed to be X's pillion. Now I had two options, either take train to Mysuru and then visit Chikmagalur on a 4 wheeler or rent a bike. I discussed this with my ex-teammate over Skype and he was kind enough to lend me his Pulsar 150 2013 model. That day after office, I went to his place and collected his bike after dropping him at the Majestic bus stop as he was going home for Dussehra.

Now it was all good, A was supposed to ride solo, D as B's pillion, C as my pillion and E and F on one bike.

Friday night after office, I got my ride serviced. The guy washed the bike, lubed the chain, tightened the rear brake and mirrors. Saturday we were supposed to leave @7am but C got late and we started the ride at 8am

hahaaa.. Kind of confusing for me too :P

....so, after leaving from Bangalore @7am we stopped at A2B, Bidadi for breakfast. The place was crowded and looking at the queue at the billing counter we came out without any second thought. We then stopped at one road side hotel and had Poori Sabji and Tea. We reached Mysore by 12noon and another 30 mins to find the place where my friend lives. Then, after lunch at a small hotel named Prem's Thakkar we left for Balmuri Falls. Here are some pics:

Nice ride. First look of letters in bold gave me a feeling of John Nash in movie "A beautiful mind" :P
