  • [Photo Feature]: Hampi - Badami Heritage Ride

    Prologue

To make JARVIS my best buddy I had to spend some time with him for which I had to take him for a really long ride and this is how this ride was planned

So finally it was time for us to WROOM on NH4. Since we are a Software engineer getting leaves is another story altogether.

    <thanks to Viral Fever. Lol.

For Sachin, he is a lucky man, he was on leave till Wednesday so for him there was no problem.

Friday I had a deliverable which made me leave office at 10.00 P.M which delayed our packing, we have a very bad habbit of keeping it till the last moment.

So after winding up every remaining bit somewhere around 12.30 AM we were all set to catch up some sleep since taking up some rest was very important moreover when we had to cover 750kms on the next day.

We planned to get up at 4.00 AM and start early to avoid trucks stream, But Believe me this is the story of every night before ride.

And then finally thinking that since now it is just half an hour left why sleep?

So we woke up at 3.45 A.M (We are never so punctual for office!! SERIOUSLY), had 2 pieces of good day biscuits, some green tea with ginger and pudina leafes, basic last minute packing and was all set to meet NH4.

    Next Episode coming up soon

No matter how many plans you make or how much in control you are, riding never goes according to plan and this is what the real FUN IS

                CHAPTER 1 - “DAY 1”

                “Monster Ride”

                Day1 (Sat) – 8th Oct 2016

                Route - NH4- Mumbai – Satara – Kholhapur – Belgaum – Hubli – Hospet - Hampi

                Total Kms – 750kms

Hotel stayed – Gopi Guest House – Just besides Virupaksha Temple and closer to all the places

                Hotel Tariff – 2500 per night(Generally 1800 to 2000 per night)

Since it was just 4 days trip we did not carried much luggage’s with us, just a saddle bag, tank bag, tripod which don’t take much time to get loaded on our bikes.

We started our ride around 5.30 AM, fortunately it wasn’t raining because that week in Mumbai it continuously poured for almost all days and this time we were too stubborn to not postpone our ride or cancel it or whatsoever. So thank you Rain gods for allowing us to ride peacefully.

We stopped at lonawala for a breakfast where we had some delicious “Pohe” and coffee in Kamat Hotel and thereon we rode continuously for some 3 hours which was so exhausting due to multiple diversions between Pune-Satara highway and too much traffic due to long weekend probably.

After riding for some 200 kms, Sachin gestured me to stop, actually this one spot is our favorite spot where we always take a halt so I thought Sachin was interested in taking some pictures here but then he had a different story to say –

He got off from his bike and started checking the engines and sprockets and something which I don’t know after asking he said that even after applying full throttle his bike is not speeding up effortlessly above 5000 RPM. Sachin never say me such things because he very well know that amongst us I am the one who raise BP to the utmost possible level, But less he know that after so many multiple ride I have become so strong that such situation does not worry me now, Anyways So the thing was why his bike not performing effortlessly?

Answer : Thanks to Whatsapp MOJO #MojoTribe group Siddharth and Aditya who instantly answered Sachin’s question they said – “possibility could be over heating”, actually we were riding continuously for some 3 odd hours, and so without having any options we gave some 30 mints rest to our machine and ourselves and then continued to beat the heat and some hell like traffic again between Pune and satara.

Around 3’00 PM we were starving so bad that we thought to fill-up some quick nutrients in our tummies. Sometimes I wish we human beings too should have a petrol pump kinda a thing where we can go and fill up our stomach with some real protein types liquids or something where we don’t have to waste much time and since we are a hard core food lovers no matter how much we think to eat less especially when we are riding longer kms, we end up eating all the 4 courses <Soup, Starter, Main course, dessert> But that day we actually thought to apply this less eating thing funda.

We were in Kolhapur and in opposite side I saw a McDonalds board with that big Burger, Coke, and French fries Poster where a lady with her wide open mouth taking a bite of a huge looking burger..Damn it looked so delicious, I somehow got a hard urge to ask Sachin to stop and have some of junks instead of dal rice or whatsoever. Friends believe me it was a strong telepathy at that moment between us, before I could have gestured him to stop. Sachin stopped in a corner asking me “Mcdy khaye kya?” (Should we have McDonald’s today?)

That hidden child in me started jumping happily, for a moment I disremembered how tired I was after this 400kms and I childishly said “YES YES YES”.

Sachin already warned me saying if we do not get a cut between dividers to go to the other part of road within 1 kms we would proceed ahead and find some descent hotel to fill ourselves I nodded positively with anticipation to get a cut, otherwise every single person in this universe who were having burgers fries today at that moment would spew tonight…(huhh I don’t care <Wicked me>)

Thoughts surrounded my mind “How funny our eating craves can be SOMETIMES?

In Mumbai where we reside, McDonalds is not more than 5 minutes from our place but I have never ever stepped in there, in fact for almost a year McDonalds is out of our list. And today I feel so hopeless to have one that to 400 kms away from home.

Just 7 minutes and we got a under bridge kinda thing which after crossing made us to satisfy our crave.

After settling there the 1st thing which I did was removing my knee guard, my right knee was in so much pain because of it or may be because of the riding position of CBR not sure that wasn’t supporting knee guard <CBR is a rich bike it needs riding pant>, but it was so much relief after it.

Burgers, fries and some litchi juices made us so fresh that we continuously rode for 3 hours covering 130kmph uninterruptedly (we should definitely take a bow to butter smooth NH4 for 130kmph) but some dogs scared hell out of me seriously that’s a different scariest story, “ABS BABA KI JAI HO”

Less breaks and full throttle allowed us to reach Hubli at around 6.00 PM. The traffic and chaos, Man I cannot explain that, literally we thought that we are at Sakinaka the most mobbed place in Mumbai. Fighting with traffic and finding a correct route till Hospet actually tested our patience to the optimum level. Riding for 550kms when you face such traffic and chaos, you actually get to know how strong you are as a “Rider”

It was almost night when we started heading towards hospet which was more 150 kms and then from there - “Hampi” it was <15 kms>

We took a Quick break for tea since we were too tired to ride in dusk, moreover we did not anticipated that we would have to do night ride for 150+ kms which was a dreadful task.

The place where we stopped for our tea, we met an interesting family who were heading to “Some place ahead of Hampi“ which was more 150 kms from Hampi to spend their vacation actually these people were the one whom Sachin interrogated for the directions.

We were glad to meet such family who had a keen interest in travelling rather than partying and clubbing or spending their money in something uninteresting Great going guys (Y)

The kiddo who was not more than 12 years had a superb knowledge related to bikes and I was so happy when he said that he liked CBR more than MOJO…<I kept teasing Sachin the whole evening after that>

They quickly left after having a cup of tea since they had to cover longer however we waited back to relax some more and ordered some desi French fries which was unquestionably delicious, it truly helped us to boost up our energy level

After some 45 mints when we asked Anna for the bill, he just included the French fries amount whereas the tea and Water which we took initially was not included in the bill. Enquiring him we came to know that the amount was already paid by the gentlemen and his family whom we were interacting.
We did not even got chance to thank him – “If you are reading this, we want to thank you”

Well riding in night is so challenging, I mean the roads which look so happening and beautiful during day light turns into a haunted dangerous kind of during night-time. Frankly Night ride is not our types and will never be ever, but if you are riding long distances such instances are bound to happen

                Double lane
                High beam
                Trucks
                Cars rashly overtaking us
                Local animals
Sudden dangerous potholes after smooth roads
                Localities riding without headlight on
                Bullock carts
Extremely slow tractors without no reflectors
My list can go on…….cutting it here…

We booked a hotel named “Gopi Guest house” in Hampi which was another challenging task at that hour <and what was the time?> It was 11.30 PM with nobody around to help us. Another 45 mints of search and we were still unable to locate. Finally we called a hotel executive named “Vijay“ who came to receive us till the main junction. God if he wouldn’t had come to receive us we would have taken whole night to locate that area.

He was so happy to see us since he was anticipating that we were coming by “Car” but when he saw us on bikes he was speechless especially because he had keen interest in riding bikes which he was doing for last 18 years <Rx100 – 2 stroke was his bike> he even said that “Mojo” is his dream bike and he is collecting money to get one .

Around 12:00 AM we checked in and collapsed on cot and boy that divine sleep which you get after long successful ride is like you have never ever got before.

Check out the Video of the ride in below YouTube link as well :

Lovely travelogue. I've been following your journeys for a while now. Excellent sense of adventure and joie de vivre. And beautiful pics by the way. The varied hues of the sky in different pics is mesmerising. And of course, the Ceeber in Repsol livery is dashing. Waiting for more.
