            Beautiful pic, that first one...

Can you provide some info on the silencer can (source/cost/noted effects)? Been meaning to do something with mine for a long while, was going to fab one myself, but open to whichever options are out there.

Re: Into the Himalayas (Hero Impulse) Chanshal Pass

So the road trip dates back to April this year right when the summers are on the verge and high passes are all on their glory partly because they are quite accessible to us. Thus with Chanshal pass a quick excursion to the same sat off at morning traversing through Dehradun -- Chakrata and then to Deoban -- Kanasar -- Tuini and Rohru !

Bad roads half way after Deoban till half before Tuini which were actually getting mended robbed us half way of the long stretch from Chakrata to Tuini which went through sheer rough roads fun when done on Impulse with pinned throttle and off roads ! Roads are now in nice condition mended all the way after Chakrata ! Only rough patch you encounter in till Kanasar.

              Kansar (Deodars and Grasslands)

We reached Rohru till night with 230+kms on the odo for the day ! Funny aspect arriving Himachal ( Rohru precisely) is that you often happen to see an auto rickshaw or a local locomotive with Himalayan Motorsport sticker on it and damn are they rash with their driving skills. Home to raid as Himachal has been, the culture of the same (what I've observed) has seeped into the civilisation too a little. I say this as all the near hits I've confronted has been a lot in Rohru and Himachal !

Anyways with 100 Pipers, a great friend I was riding with that had brought it from his home, down the throat the evening stroll across rohru market began. I'd the chicken served in Rohru is great. A recommendation on my behalf just in case you head there. Also not to mention WEED (I don't smoke though) (yet) my hotel manager had grown around his hotel named Hotel Monal. Carefree guy with zero attention given about his things his belongings (maybe a side effect of long term weed) was fun to talk to and was very home to us in terms of hospitality.

We had decided to camp at Chanshal. So with that we slept overnight to start next morning !

              At Deoban

KRP exhaust it is. A friend had it lying around unused so i plonked it on. Useless I'd say. Costed my friend around 8000rs for the whole exhaust end can and the bend pipe including any the clamps etc. Poor VFM !

No effects as such ! Free flow as it is...helped a little compared the stock exhaust climbing altitudes a little. Removed it now. Bike looked shabby. Switched to the stock barrel (unrestricted from the inside, removed baffle plates/tubes and all).

Re: Into the Himalayas (Hero Impulse) Chanshal Pass

2nd day started with the hunt of a petrol pump which we were not able to find the last night too. With that done we headed off to Larot and Chanshal. Bad roads began within 10 kms and I Knew whats next as I was here last year. With Impulse`s steering stem bearings that happen to come loose every now and then in mind I stopped at roadside to get my steering races tight and headed off again.

Few kms into Larot the real off road began. The trail traverses though small villages and with fine grit at some places and lots of sand the bike was climbing great riding it on the pegs throwing it at high speeds over potholes and rocky bumps. Momentum and body positioning works in harmony here. The real struggle for the bike began when we started climbing post Larot to Chanshal. The bike started showing few signs of altitude sickness which later few 18-20kms before chanshal became more problematic. We both were on stock engines and thus my friend claimed its pointless riding all the way in this way when the bike is taking a lot of hiccups refraining to climb further. Thus upon his continuous pushing I shoved a small wire loop in to the carb`s main jet. Small but enough to cover the orifice by its 1/4th. With that done we headed further and reached Chanshal by 3pm.

We descended then down towards Kwar to stop within 5kms odd to find a big grassy knoll to pitch our tents at. It was warm and comparatively less cold and windy down from the pass. With the tent pitched and fire a going we sat to cook and talk over another 100 pipers. Night was quite starry with the moon at west horizon washing a lot of sky by its light thus robbing me of some nice night sky pics.

Anyways with lots of talks over some philosophical sects such as existentialism and our predicament of human existence and moral subjectivity over the bonfire we headed off to sleep to be awakened at midnight by some stupid disturbance.......(later)

Re: Into the Himalayas (Hero Impulse) Chanshal Pass

Distracted in sleep by the unwanted noises of something outside the tent i woke up. Juat opened my eyes and ears enough to keep myself aware of the situation without any movement. With my friend asleep beside in deep slumbers and I with a fragile sleeping habit woke up to be tormented by the noise which i thought was of an animal probably. Thus cautious now i wasn't able to sleep fighting through time hoping it was a dog at max clawing into a poly bag i guess.

Noise stopped about half an hour later after which i somehow went to sleep. To get up at morning at 5 watching the sunrise from the east where the Himalayas stood...and from. the back the morning sun emerged tinting the sky clouds in gold.

Morning we rode back then to home. Hoping to reach Dehradun by evening. Downhill again and past Larot we were into tarmac. Occasional long straights after winding roads tend to provoke you to go WOT. Which i did on occasions and back to Rohru and then it happened. The carb slide needle.

The carb slide needle that runs in the jet sleeve breaks leaving us stranded at Rohru. With such a complicated part of a bike like Impulse we knew then that we are in a big problem. It had occurred to me earlier back at home which i i ordered from the SVC which in itself took days weeks probably to come. As the part was hard to source and scarce to find i knew Ill have to get it towed back to Doon.

But we headed to a local mechanic first who wasn't able to rectify the situation after 2 hours or so, searching for carbs and carb parts from older carbs. Then on inquiring from another mechanic he asked us to bring the bike to him. He went on working on yamaha FZ's carb side grinded and machined it into almost of that of Impulse's. In the carb it went with rpms fluctuating abruptly. With an hour more on carb mixture settings and power band locating around 4-6000rpms it was good. The bike would run sluggish below 4000 & above 6000rpms. But that was the best we had there. That too in 50 rs. That mechanic redeemed the whole place.

So with that done we were off hoping the slide does good enough to get us across Chakrata. And it did. The bike laid 2weeks more awaiting a new slide thereafter which i ordered. Lots of motorcycle niggles and great Himalayan experience the ride though bittersweet but is still remnant to me & fruits.

Hoping to hit Chanshal early the next year. April perhaps.
