  • Riding for refreshment

Finding life is what my journey so far has been. Sometimes I look into the eyes of my children and see a life full of hope and joy. Sometimes I find solace in the lap of nature. And sometimes a keyboard warrior in me thinks keeping at constant touch with friends and family is the ultimate meaning of life.
And I remain confused: which of the above me is more fulfilling than the others? Or is it something else I am missing out! Then comes the idea of having a road trip with my best friend.

It is said, a road trip clears the doubts we are having in our day-to-day lives. It is refreshing as well as soothing for our tension-clad minds. So, on a short notice we decided to take a road trip to Barakar and Maithan.

Next part after approval. Till then a few teaser.

      Thanks Monk.

I started around 9:00 and met my friend on way. Together we went for what was supposed to be our detachment from worldly problems. Whether that was achieved or not will be cleared later. The famous traffic jam of Panagarh was avaoided due to recent opening of the Panagarh bypass and we maintained an average speed of 80kmph. After riding for about an hour we took a loo break near Andal.

The NH2 is being upgraded and the present condition can be classified as dangerous at best. Sudden road blocks and diversions caused us to slow down a lot. Meanwhile the horn of my bike got defected and it just stopped to make any sound. Then it was upon my friend who was leading and blowing horn while I was following him closely. At last we reached Barakar.

Barakar, a small town in the Asansol sub-division, gets its name from the river that flows by it. It is surrounded by the coal fields of Jharkhand and West Bengal. Coal mining is the main income of this area. So finding a stone temple series in this place of black diamond is no less a great achievement.

Situated in a small compound behind the Begunia market of Barakar, these four temples are looked after by ASI.

Built during 14th Century, these temples are highly inspired by the Orissan style of architecture. Perhaps these are the only stone built Rekha-deul temple series in West Bengal.

I don't know why but such ancient temples always make me thoughtful. I wonder what sort of technology and aim was behind the erection of such beautifully carved temples. They always managed to calm down my nerve and I thank my friend for being with me in such moments of insight and witnessing the Grandeur and Excellence of those bygone era.

Though I'm personally not a temple admirer that water seems cool and inviting. Well done!
