  • Epic Ride To South India

This is my first individual post in Xbhp. I have been following this forum since long, but never posted my riding experience.

    Brief introduction about myself:
    Name: Sudipto Chowdhury
    Location: Kolkata
    Ride: Honda CBR250R
    Profession: IT Engineer

I have been riding motorcycle for almost 15 years now, just after I turned 18. But I owned a bike after I got my job in 2006.

Me and my wife Priyanka have been thinking of a bike trip since long as our last long bike trip was to Gurudongmar lake, Sikkim on Nov-2015. Initially we thought of going to Rajasthan and Gujrat. But as Priyanka was brought up in Gujrat only and we both have already been to Rajasthan before, we dropped the plan and made the plan for South India.

As you all know, South India is not a place to be covered/ explored in a single ride and that too with my profession where taking leave is considered as a sin. But somehow I managed to take 2 weeks of leave and 1 week of Work From Home. So, eventually its a 3 weeks leave with little work in between.

We started our journey on 8-Jan-2017 and returned home on 29-Jan-2017. We have covered parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, TamilNadu and Pondicherry. Total distance covered was 5720 km.

Few Teasers for now. Will upload rest of the stories and pics after approval.

        Thanks for the approval.

As we planned to start our journey on 08-Jan, all the packing and planning are expected to be completed by 07-Jan !! But we were confused between two plans.

Plan A was to go to Kolkata -> Gopalpur -> Vijaywada -> Mahabalipuram -> Pondicherry and then start exploring TamilNadu and Karnataka. On the return visit Vizag and Araku.

Plan B was to go to Kolkata -> Gopalpur -> Araku-> Vizag -> Hyderbad -> Hampi and then start exploring Karnataka and TamilNadu. The return journey would start from Pondicherry.

After lot of discussion and debate with my wife, decided to go with Plan B (made by my wife only). The main reason to choose that plan was my wife had already been to TamilNadu twice and visited most of the places in TamilNadu. So she wanted to explore Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka mainly.

So, plan decided by 9 pm on 07-Jan. Now it was the time to complete the last minute packing and have some good sleep as we had to travel around 620km next day. Packing was completed by 11pm, but as you all know how difficult it is to have a sleep before the ride. Anyway, we managed to have a sleep of around 4 hours and wake up at 4:30 am in the morning.

It was cold here at Kolkata and after having morning tea and some early breakfast, we were all set to start at around 6:30 am.

        Day 1:
        Total Km: 625
        -------------------

As we had our breakfast, we stopped after we crossed Kharagpur bypass and reached NH60. After taking 15 min break, we started riding again. Our plan was to reach Gopalpur before Sunset. The ride was going without any issue till we reach Bhubneswar. God knows how the screw/nut used to operate the clutch went off just after we crossed Bhubneswar. After almost 30 min of search, we found a mechanic who helped us fixing the issue. We had our lunch after the issue is resolved. Then we were good to ride and reached Gopalpur at around 6pm in the evening.

          amazing!!!

          quiet a distance you covered.

is cbr comfy for such distances? or does it tire you out cause of its forward biased position?

That's superb distance, considering having a pillion with you.
Great captures and waiting to hear about all the places you visited.!

Yes, CBR is meant for long distance riding. Its a proven machine. Also, if you are riding with a pillion, there can't be anything better than CBR250 in that category.
Bike performed flawlessly without a single glitch. Its not my bike is new. It has now completed 54K km.

              Thank you.

Yes, for a pillion as well, traveling such distance in 20-21 days is difficult. But my better half has done a great job here.
Will try to complete rest of the days writing over the weekend.

                Thank you.
                great.

looks like i need to seriously consider cbr as next bike.

though launch of dominar has made it hard for me to consider it mentally.

                thanks.

Great trip dada! I was in the same route till Balasore this Jan 26th. But didn't stretch further as recently I have developed neck pain by riding on CBR. Earlier I covered 450kms in a day without any glitch but nowadays cannot go beyond 100kms without a neck pain.

Your ride and pics are truly appreciable. Keep us updated about such beautiful triplogs.

Kilometers are just numbers. Only thing that matter is how you enjoy your ride.

BTW, thanks for the appreciation. Will upload the triplog asap.
