Default Jingle Bells Jingle Bells Jingle All The Way! A Christmas ride to places in Tamilnadu

Don't wait for someone to bring you flowers. Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul. - Mario Quintana

This is the best Christmas that I ever had, though I didnt visited my hometown and attended Church with my family. Want to know how? Please read on
Im a fan of beaches and country borders, they always attracts me to visit. My ride is a result of pictures posted by a two twenty-five year old guys @Bhishma Choudhary and his friend who rode a white bullet along the coastal line of south India, starting from Mumbai to Chennai. Thanks a ton for those wonderful pictures and detailed travelogues, they inspired me a lot.

I have got three days in hand, a Christmas Eve, a Saturday and a Sunday. I have spent or passed time of many such long weekends playing those addictive PC games, surfing internet, movies, meeting friends, very short solo rides and what not.

A couple of teasers before thread gets approved:

Coming up: The Plan, four days before Christmas (21st and 22nd December)

Waiting for the approval, Thanks in advance mods.

The Plan, four days before Christmas (21st and 22nd December):
Four days before the ride, the first draft of my plan is not do whatever has happened but to do something else. Something what Bhishma and his friend has done. Correct, a ride along the coastal line, starting from Mangalore to Kanyakumari and return to Bangalore. The google map view of my route will be something like below:

I have drawn lines along the costal line and spent next day trying to list out the places to visit or tourist attractions that falls in this route. Thanks to the holiday season weve got no releases or sprints to complete.

The Plan, two days before Christmas (23rd December):
Let me introduce you all my colleague, a person who looks aged but ever young at heart, Mr. Uday. He used to test ride his Suzuki Shogun to Ooty for every small change he does to his bike. So this once upon a time biker has changed all my two days plans by saying Too much of beaches, youll get bored of them and you will end up doing nothing there.

One more thing that I realized after speaking to my friends (already visited these places) at office is that the three days time which I can pass playing video games is not sufficient to cover all the beaches and other places of my interest. So, thats how I started reworking on my route map.
After a few hours of rework, I came up with another route map. Its like below:

I planned to go to the southernmost tip of India stay there, visit Tirchendur, Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai and return to Bangalore. I showed it to a friend now its his turn for modifications :P His name is Mr. Sathya Prakash Perumal, a 25 year old guy who looks a bit aged and also a great movie buff. Kind of eats, drinks and sleeps movies. This guy has insisted me to stay at his home so the route has become something like below:

Hold on guys, this is not my final plan. The best is yet to come.

Another friend of mine who sits in next bay saw my computer screen and thats Mr. Rakesh Kumar, rides a Royal Enfield TB 350 on which he has done many long distance rides. Im very happy to have another biker at office with whom I can discuss motorcycles and related stuff. So he happened to see my route map and suggested me to include a bridge which he wanted to ride on but is still pending. So with that change the route map has finalized and it looks like below:

    So the route finalized is:
    Bangalore--Kanyakumari--Thiruchendur--Rameswaram--Danushkodi--M.Reddiapatti--Madurai--Bangalore

So with this I have completed the route planning which covers my favorite beaches as well as country borders.
In no time I was able to plan my stay options with tentative departure, arrival and ride timings as well. Looks like below:

I have planned to break the ride till Kanyakumari into two parts which covers a distance of 200 Km on 24th evening till Salem and remaining distance on 25th early morning.

    Preparation night
    (23rd December):
So till here plans were all clear, documented and saved. Bike has been serviced very recently and is in good shape. Nows the time for packing stuff.
Tool kit, no. First aid kit, no. Puncture kit, no. So What I have carried?

    - All motorcycle related documents in original
    - Motorcycle owners manual
    - Spare ignition key
    - Chain lube
    - Micro fiber cloths
    - Helmet visor cleaning kit
    - Quechua rain jacket and pants
    - Bungee cords
    - Energy bars
    - Water
    - Ear phones
    - Mobile phones
    - USB charging cables
    - Plastic and paper money
    - Clothes and other obvious things.
I dont have saddle bags so I have packed all the above stuff in to a backpack

    My safety gear:
    - LS2 Phobia FF350 Helmet with clear visor
    - Spartan Pro Gear Helios Mesh Jacket
    - Cramster Twister touring gloves
    - Cramster balaclava
I have made my bike ready for long rides by fitting a mobile phone mount and universal USB charger.

    Letting the good times roll:
Day 1, 24th December: Bangalore to Salem,
    Riding from office:
I have all the things packed in to a backpack. As planned, I left office (5th Block, Kormangala) at 3:30PM and reached the Electronic city flyover toll gate by 4:15 PM. My only fuel stop for the day is at Bharat Petrol@Chinnar, Tamilnadu. Filled in for 600 INR and got both the tires air pressure checked.

Rode for 200 kilometers non-stop and reached Salem outskirts by 6:30 PM. It took me 1 hour to ride through Salem traffic and I was able to find a budget lodge with safe parking by 7:30 PM, checked-in and finished my dinner at near-by hotel and crashed in to bed by 9:30 PM.

Somebody else is also riding somewhere, seen this TB loaded with saddlebags but didnt get chance to catch up

Coming up: Day 2, 25th December: Salem--Kanyakumari, Riding on Christmas day

    Eagerly waiting for the rest....

    :P
Once I have donned my black helmet, I become anonymous. My face ceases to identify me. My black visor shields others from the rigours of my passing glance while shielding me from their attempts to peer into my soul. I am an anonymous rider shrouded in black. I am no longer a specific self. I am a passing Traveller.
