  • Demonetisation, Anniversary and a 1500 Km Bike Trip to HAMPI

Thank you for bumping into my travelogue, this travelogue is more of a conversation between me and my lovely wife. I am sorry if you find it boring but I tried my best to be original and I am new in blogging , hope you guys won’t mind.

    So here starts the conversation

    Wife :
Our 2nd Anniversary is arriving whats the plan ?
Me : You say , last time we didn’t went anywhere due to office work so lets go somewhere this time
    Wife : GOA???
    Me : Noooo, never
    Wife : Why ?
Me : I don’t like Goa ( Actually I have never been to GOA, and going to GOA with wife is waste of time and money , Ha Ha )
Wife : THAILAND , my all friends went there and Dec is the perfect time to visit ???
Me : Noooo, Just now spent 2 Lakhs for my new motorcycle
    Wife : Then ?
    Me : HAMPI
Wife : Whats it , I have never heard before .
Me : Google It , it was the capital city of Ancient India and the biggest city of that time
Wife : Oh wow, nice place , Lets Go
    Me : Nice
Wife : But will go on our Mahindra MOJO ( My Motorcycle)
Me : WHATT? Are you mad ? I know we tour on our Mojo and max you have been as a pillion is 200 Km that too on a cruiser, Hampi is almost 700 Km from Pune . How will you manage to sit for such a long duration ?
Wife : I will manage , you decide . I didn’t gifted you MOJO for street shopping
Me : But my MOJO is brand now and have done only 200 Km and its in Run In period . I can’t take it for long ride
Wife : That’s your problem not mine
Me : Ok Will go to HAMPI on 1st Dec ( That’s our Wedding Anniversary date )

Now with a sudden planning it was preparation time. As we both work at same company so getting leaves was an issue, luckily no issue happened and the leaves were granted. Now time to get the bike ready and have to cover 800 km in 15 days to get my bike’s first servicing done. Did a few 100 kms trip and after daily use took it for 1st servicing, finally the bike is also ready.

When things get smooth expect the unexpected and this is what happened with us , on 31st Nov my manager told that you have to come on 1st as the client is visiting . It came as a rude shock as we were prepared for the trip. With sunken heart I called my wife and the conversation follows

    Me :
Hello , a bad news .Our trip is cancelled as I have to come office tomorrow
    Wife : What ???? ( followed by #$%&@#^&&^&%$#@ )
Me : What to do now
Wife : What can be done now , no any option left
Me : Yes lets ditch the plan

DAY 1– 1st Dec 2016 “EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED"

Now the D Day arrived it was 1st of Dec and I was sitting in my office preparing powerpoint presentation for the client instead of our roadtrip and celebrating our anniversary with my wife . My wife availed the leave as she had informed all her colleagues that we are going for the roadtrip and if she will go offc everyone will ask what happened. She was angry too and we didn’t talked in the morning

    Me :
    Hello, Happy Anniversary
Wife : So ??? Do your offc work ( I can feel the Angriness on the other side of phone )
Me : Lets continue our trip
    Wife : How ????
Me : Will travel in Night , pack the bags and be ready . We will start the journey once I reach home from Offc
Wife : Is it possible ?
Me: Yes we will start today and cut short the journey
    Wife: Yipppie
Me: Ok, I will reach home by 4 will start soon

Somehow pleaded to my manager that I will leave a bit early and he agreed. Now the wait was killing. Once the clock strike 3 30 PM I left office and was at home. When reached home found that the luggage is full ( Thanks to my wife who travels very heavy ) .Now there is no time to repack bags so we started from Pune by 5 PM with a good pace in chilling winter reached Kolhapur by 11 PM. Time to take rest in a pre-booked hotel
Now another jolt of hammer, we informed the hotel earlier that we will be doing card payment, thanks to demonetisation we had only INR 6000 of hard cash. He agreed upon that but once we reached Kolhapur found that his swiping machine was not working as the internet is down ( Thanks to NHAI fellow who cut the broadband line while digging) and also he didn’t had any Paytm account. We tried for Online Transfer also but we failed. Now with no option left, we paid 2k to him in hard cash.

Now the biggest question “Shall we return to Pune as we have only INR 4000 left”. Wife said will decide tomorrow morning as it’s already too late

Day 2 : 2nd Dec 2016 “WHEN WE RELIED ON GOD"

Wife: You decided anything? Or is there any friend who lives enroute who can help ( She asked this having a large sip of Coffee and a bite of Burger sitting at McD Kolhapur )

Me: No friend but I am sure there are guys from HVK forum who lives enroute and definitely they well help
    Wife: You contacted them?
Me: No, I don’t think it will be right as they also be sort of hard cash due to demonetisation as I have seen many guys are stuck
Wife: So, what to do now ???
Me: Lets continue, When God is with us you don’t need to worry. Also the payment is done at resort at Hampi so just pray that we reach Hampi without any issue then we will figure out something

Did a small check at the Hotel Reception if their machine is working so that I can get my cash back after making card payment but it was still dead. So by 9 30 AM we left Kolhapur and soon we entered Karnataka .The roads were butter smooth till Hubli. Once we entered Hubli with some local guidance we were on the path of Hampi. The time was around 1 PM with scorching heat in the month of Dec suddenly we saw a small queue in front of a ATM . It was a regional bank and was dispensing money. Soon we were in the line praying that Oh God at least we should get some money because the ATM was dispensing only 100 Rs note and the chances were there it will run dry soon . Our turn came and then HOLA machine dispensed 4000 cash in 100 Rs note . Unable to withdraw more due to daily 2000 Limit. We were literally dancing as If it was a great achievement. Now we had 8000 hard cash so no need to worry .That day we realised the value of 100 Rs note.

Soon we left Hubli and started for Hampi the roads were pretty straight with lot of Windmills on the way and we crossed Gadag . We were damn excited as it was our 1st Long trip on Mojo. Soon I realised that something is wrong as none of the signboard on the road showed distance to HAMPI. I enquired few people but they didn’t knew Hindi and I didn’t knew Kannada. We continued and asked a petrol pump guy and he told that you are in the wrong way . WHATTT !!!! He told that after Gadag you missed the left turn towards Hampi and this road goes to Mundargi . You have to go back and you have to go 30 km extra. We were already late , it was around 4 PM and it was getting dark . I took out my phone to check the maps and it was showing a shortcut of 10 Km which goes through villages and will save 20 Km

    Me:
What to do now, shall we take the shortcut or go back to Gadag
Wife : Going to Gadag will be good as we don’t know how are the roads are inside the village and also if anything happens we cant communicate with village guys. So instead of saving time we will waste our time. And if we are late we can stay at Gadag.
Me: What if the roads are good ?
Wife : Hmm , Lets take a chance then anyhow we are taking a lot of chances in this journey.

So we tied the phone to the handlebar as we didn't had the phone mount and entered the shortcut passing through villages . The road was hardly 3 ft wide but it was smooth and the route was so scenic . Enroute the villagers were surprised seeing our Mojo because many of them saw such a big bike for the first time in their life . We talked to many villagers in Sign Language and they were very happy to see us coming from such a long distance. Soon we catch up the roads to Hampi .Yippie and we were at Hampi at around 7 PM . My wife got a bit disappointed as she was expecting it to be a big city . Soon we entered our resort ( Kishkinda Heritage Resort ) and directly jumped into the bed

    DAY 3- 3rd Dec 2016 ( RELIVING INDIAN HISTORY)

We woke up before sunrise with the chirping noise of birds and the moment we came out from our cottage we were astonished by the sheer beauty of the location. The resort was located just at the side of the walls of Tungbhadra Dam . The resort guy asked us to have a walk to the top of the dam and then you can enjoy the water park here .Till then the breakfast will be ready . Soon we were on top of Tungbhadra Dam puzzled by the boulders everywhere .After quick tour to the water park we were ready for the tour to HAMPI .

But how on the Earth can our journey be troublesome free, I enquired about the route to Hampi and the attendants told that you are on the left side of the Tungabhadra River so either you have to go back to Hospete to enter Hampi town that will be around 40 Km else you go 3 Km, park your bike at the river side , cross the river via boat and hire some vehicle .
Whatt ???? Ohh No , Not Again

Then I enquired to the Resort owner that instead of parking my bike there can someone drop us there and he informed that a new road is getting laid up nearby and you can take your bike . If you take this route then you you will enter Hampi town from backside and its 25 Km shorter than going to Hampi , but there are few bad patches as the road is not laid completely .

We agreed upon this route and left for Hampi and the road was not that bad . Enroute we met an awesome tour guide who was with us for the whole day and showed us Hampi Town . I would suggest to take a registered tour guide else you will end up watching the stones without knowing the story behind it
Now enough speaking let the pictures do the talking

Soon the day ended after visiting many awesome places and it started raining thanks to the preshower of Cyclone VARDHA. In the month of Dec we were not expecting rains so we weren’t prepared , so we waited for 2 hours by 10 PM the rain stopped and we started our return journey

Really Life is Full Of Surprises !!!!

Distance Travelled - 60 Km ( Around Hampi)
    Total Distance Travelled- 740 Km

Day 4 : “UNPLANNED THINGS ARE ALWAYS AWESOME"

After a heavy breakfast at Kishkinda Resort with heavy heart bit bid Adieu to Hampi . It was an awesome experience staying at Kishkinda Resort nestled in between the heart of nature.

    Me:
Trip is over, now we are starting our return journey . Not feeling good
Wife : Yes , I want to stay for few more days and explore more
Me: Shall we go to Badami ??
    Wife : Whats Badami ?
    Me : It’s a surprise
Wife : If its an awesome place , I don’t have any issue
Me: I have seen pics only ,in the pics it seems awesome
Wife: But we have to return today
Me : Yes we need 1.5 hrs there only
    Wife: Ok
Me: But there is one issue, it will be 500 Km State Highway to reach Kolhapur if we go Badami and I am not sure how are the roads and I don’t know the route , have to rely on Google Maps
Wife: In this trip every risk we took turned fruitful, so let’s take this chance also
    Me: Yoooo

After setting the google maps we left Hampi at around 10 AM and after crossing many Villages and State Highways we were at Badami by 2 PM . The view at Badami was really breathtaking.

Made a call to my manager that I will be a bit late as I have an appointment with a doctor and by 11 AM we reached home. Yippie the trip is over successfully time to go to work and I was at my desk by 12 PM responding to the emails and back to normal daily life.

A long ride with some nice clicks. Need more time to read the complete story. Till then a small question. How did the pillion seat felt to your wife during the trip? Does the size of pillion seat was enough?

Editing the post now in the next morning! Completed reading the travelogue as well as seen the video. Totally a full package. Also the horrifying video of night ride was fabulous. But in the same time I'm glad that both of you are fine and well. BTW you guys are looking great as a couple.

That was such a nice trip. Time to add Hampi to the bucketlist. I really like the way Red Mojo looks. And, a great couple indeed. Good going bro.

*banter* How to find a wife who would be happy as a pillion?

My wife never complained about the pillion comfort after i got the Pannier and Saddle mount installed , and she travelled whole journey carrying a back pack. Earlier she used to complain about the pillion seat when i didnt had those pannier bcoz she always used to feel like that she is sitting on the edge of seat and about to topple . Adding a pannier mount helped a lot in the pillion comfort.
