Warning: poor quality of the pictures due to a low end cam.

The last time I did a 100km + ride was in May08. And due to various reasons I could not do a similar ride for long. I was terribly missing the feel of the wind passing thru me or hitting a ton. I desperately needed a ride and I chose Shirgaon as it fits the distance limit I had in mind.

Shirgaon is a fort captured by the great Shivaji and used to monitor the shore. Though I was warned by few Xbhpian in the Offline Mumbai g2g thread that the destination is not exciting , proceeded with the hope that the journey will cheer me. And so it did.

I started at 6am to beat the early traffic. But much to my surprise, there was heavy traffic on NH8 till Virar. I should have guessed it considering that it is the road that connects Surat and Mumbai. Thankfully, after Virar it got better and till Manor I was comfortably doing 80-90.

    Few pics enroute

At the toll gate after Virar I noticed few SBKer in my RVM. I could see 3 of them. Few meters after they stopped and I realized that they were waiting for few other to join. I went ahead and thought of catching them in action. The camera unfortunately wasn't capable. here is a glimpse. I could make out R1, a Gixxer and a Triumph. There were two more I could not take a good look at

After I took the diversio from Manor, the road between Manor and Palghar was a bliss. a small ghat section of around 3-4 km reminded me of Lavasa. Lavasa was more fun but this one was entertaining too.

I reached there by 8:45am with a good number of breaks for pictures. I reached this place from where I was redirected to the fort
It was high school on the beach. I wish I had my schooling at a school like this

The beach. Not the kind you can take a dip in, let me warn you.

And then I reach the fort

    the restoration work wasn't impressive

This is a behind the fort. There were so many of these mules.

    Adios

Return trip was quick also because of the sun. It was fine as long as I was on the move. If I had to stop for a while, the heat becomes unbearable. Especially when you are entangled in the whole "Jacket-Helmet-Glasses-Music player" set up. Took me around 1h45mins to do 100km including a quick 're-hydration' break. returned back by 11:30. short and sweet ride.

    Statistics
    Kms - 200
time - 2hr45 mins to Shirgaon and 1hr50min on the way back.
best section: ghat section nearly 4-5 kms before Palghar

Thanks Ketan for setting my expectations right before the ride. In my opinion had there been some care given to the fort and to the beach, it would have been a great place to visit. I recommend the manor-palghar stretch to anyone trying the leaning skills (with necessary caution ofcourse)

Anjit, thanks for that PS job. I did not know it can make things that better. Am a novice to photo editing stuff. Hopefully by the next ride I should have got my camera back.Otherwise I will give editing a shot
