Initially started out as a plan to ride to Himvad Gopalaswamy Betta (Henceforth referred to as GS Betta) at around 4AM. But I had certain other plans and had to back in the city by 3-4PM also starting earlier meant we get to see the sunrise closer to the hills. So I changed the plan to start at 3AM, got a few death threats after that!

The Ride:
Got up at 2AM and left home by 2.30 to pick up Krish. Met Avin and Vignesh along the way and reached the Shell Bunk on Mysore road to see everyone had arrived (well almost!). The only person remaining was Archi, who arrived a few minutes post 3 and exclaimed "Everyone's on time!!!??"

A brief round of introductions and we ready to roll in a few minutes. Prior to our start Krish (TN Plate), Me (TN Plate), Sterin(AP Plate) & Chetan(MH Plate) were having a discussion about crappy police and taxation rules are, basically giving full time gaali's to the system and its enforcers.
Me & Archi needed fuel and it was decided that we stop at the next open petrol bunk. I was leading with Archi right behind me. After passing many closed bunks I finally see that a bunk is open, but oh wait it looks like a mess so I decided to move till we find another one.....But oh wait! I can see the fuel bunk guy signalling to come in for a filling fuel
, he's got a stick and whistle too
...a little closer and I realised it was a policeman signalling us to stop for a routine check, well it turned out to be anything but routine! After we all came to stop, parked our bikes in proper formation and what not...the police man was least impressed. His first comment, "Why are all of you wasting petrol? you should travel doubles"

He checked everyones papers except mine, but decided to keep Krish and Chetan's paper....he was adamant on us displaying a NOC for plying a outside state vehicle. We explained to him that we're on a tour and will return soon. Mr. Policeman insisted and persisted.....ok! So we posed him a question, "What does one do when one travels to multiple states?"......His genius response was that, "You have to take NOC from every state that you pass through, i.e. If you home state is TN then you need to get a NOC from TN before entering KA, when you leave KA you have to get a NOC from KA....and so on..."....we were like...

this guy high on spirits of some kind is manufacturing rules at 3.30AM and he found only us as bakras...
! While this cop kept harrasing us, did not let us speak and kept repeating his NOC poem, the other Policeman took a few of aside and started talking sweetly saying such and such are rules, etc, etc....full bakwaas. We decided we will give them 150 bucks and not a penny more! "Dues" paid they asked to leave and with one them screaming, "LEAVE IMMEDIATELY"
, they also put up a proper act where one of them kept saying we must not let them go and other kept saying let these guys go on their tour
.....This was the Good Cop, Bad Cop part of the story...
We regrouped a kilometer ahead and resumed our ride from there with a 45 mins delay, all thanks to Mr. Good Cop & Mr. Bad Cop. We found a open fuel bunk and tanked up there. From there we rode non-stop for the next 70 kms. Took a small butt and pee break, I discoverd that my mech had not tightend the oil cooler bolts properly and I was leaking oil
, to top it all I wasnt carrying my allen key set to tighten it! I decided to move as the leak of oil was relatively less.We started after a brief photo session only to be attacked by swarms of bugs, mind you these were not your ordinary crashedinmyhelmet bugs, these guys BIG...everytime one crashed into my visor I would feel it would break, a few that commited suicide on my jacket felt like bullets!

Daylight was starting to peek and it was a wonderful cloudy morning. We entered and passed Mysore in a jiffy, the road condition worsened from here, but to me this road was way more fun than riding on the super smooth tarmac of Mysore road. To give you an example, I barely touched 110 on Mysore road, whereas I did 122 on this road post Mysore!

Nanjangud, Gundlupet all passed away in a jiffy. We took a breakfast stop at Gundlupet, I was shocked to see a CCD as far out as Gundlupet

We had stopped between Nanjangud and Gundlupet for a butt break.

But trully this place was beautiful, I just hope I can back here at the end of the rainy season.
..."How in the world did you know its from an Elephant".....he says..."There was lots of it!!!".....ROFL

We reached the top and parked our bikes and made a brief visit to the temple. The surrounding climate was just too beautiful then, from the top we could see clouds approaching us from all directions.
Once we all had completed our darshan, we are sitting and relaxing. All of us were getting welcome messages from 3 different states i.e. Karnataka, Kerela & Tamil Nadu
. We all were standing at the same place and yet we were in a zone of confluence of 3 state's mobile signals. This is 3 states story...
We decided to trek a little, much to dismay of a few other members
. And thus began our huffing and puffing along the hill side. We din't come across any Elephants, but we did encounter their dung....and loads of it at that!
We took a small break near a tree where some of the group members decide its time for some monkey business
Once everyone had finished monkeying around, we decided to 'make our own road' and climb the hill on a path less take...big mistake that was. The elevation was so much that it exhausted us totally. Personally it was more tiring that doing a 500km ride..

We lazed around here for a bit, gathered our energy and headed back to our bikes on the other hill.
! We then moved to another place to trek around on our bikes, which was a total FUN event. But was soon to be spoil thanks to some guy from the forest department (not sure!) that he could get some money out of us. We just kindda showed him the finger and moved on back in the direction of home.
After a nice hard ride for about 30 odd kays we decided to re-group and re-hydrate with some coconut water. After this, there was no stopping us all the way till the entry to Mysore. We took a break to re-group here, one guy was missing...it was Shankar and his TBTS. Checked my phone and saw that a message from Shankar read that his mudguard had broken a weld due to the bad roads, he would join us for lunch!
We took the ring road around Mysore this time and stopped at a dhaba once we hit the Bangy-Mysore highway. Just as we were parking in, Shankar rolled in with a big grin on his face. He was happy that he would'nt have to skip lunch!

People were hungry has hell, Dheeraj the most...next was Archi....isn't it evident from the pics...

He arrived in about 10 mins soon after that. Seeing that there was no AC in CCD we pushed forward and decided to stop at Lokaruchi Kamat a few kms ahead. After a round of buttermilk and sugarcane juice we decided to split up and head home as Bangalore was just about 30kms or so ahead.
All in all a nice one day 500Km ride, if it was not for the trek maybe I would'nt have been so tired.
GS Betta is must see at the fag end of monsoons. Anyone going there should carry their supply of water and food, there is nothing available there.

Bring it on!
( Good or bad cop story.. I'm expecting some action too in this log

. This was the good cop-bad cop story, which delayed our ride by a good 45min
