  • My First Solo Ride on the WOLF

    I wanted to do a long solo ride from a very long time but didn't get a chance to do it.

    It was my my friend's birthday on 28th of May 2017 And my long time biking buddy shashi was on a trip to LEH starting from June 1st, So he didn't want to join me

    on the ride as he had to do preparations for the LEH, so he and others chose to arrive by bus.

    I thought to utilize this opportunity to do it solo and it turned out to be real for which I was waiting for.

    It was raining heavily on the previous night(friday), which was really needed in this hot summer and made the ride more comfortable.

    I got up early around 2:00 A.M, as I didn't get a proper sleep and kept on checking something online and then finally started the ride at 4:45 A.M. by this time it had stopped raining.

    At Tibetan Monastery Hunsur,

        DAY 1 : 530 K.M
        UDUPI can be reached in 3 short routes

        1. Mysore --> Madikeri --> Mangalore --> UDUPI,
        2. Hassan --> Sakaleshpur --> Mangalore --> UDUPI
        3. Hassan --> Mudigere --> Charmadi Ghat --> UDUPI
        4. longest routes would be via Shimoga.

        Go Pro Man (Arun Kumar Kulal) had posted on his fb page that he's riding to hometown mangalore either via sakaleshpur or charmadi depending on the weather.
        I Wanted to see BEKAL FORT from a long time, but that never happened and wanted to utilize this ride to cover it. So I chose the 1st route, he chose the 3rd route.

        Coming to the ride now.

        It was around 7 A.M and I was 10 K.M away from mysore. Took few pics in a 15 mins break.

        I quickly took some pics and videos and started the journey again. My next destination was KVG Medical college Sullia, My cousin brother studies here. But some where on the way I saw a sign board pointing to Harangi dam around 10 K.M. So wanted to cover it quickly as it was off my list and the below is how it looks.

        It was around 11:00 A.M when i reached here and Spent about 20 mins, had some ice creams in the near by shops and decided not to take any major breaks now till I reach Sullia.

        Reached Sullia around 1 o clock and met my cousin bro, He took me to show his college and Hostel. The buildings looked too old but later I came to know that because of frequent rains all the buildings have lost their charm.

        I left the hostel after 20 mins of chat with him and the next destination was BEKAL FORT. But on the way I found this beautiful hanging bridge and stopped here for half an hour. Every time I stop some where I used to get a lot of attention from people on the road all because of the Riding gears, the luggage set up, rain gears, and Helmet with Action camera.

        This bridge is exactly on the border between karnataka and kerala. It is a suspension bridge. A river flows beneath the river which will be a bliss to watch during monsoon. Took few clicks and kept the helmet to record the video footage. Time was running fast and Started my journey again and rode hard and wated to reach BEKAL ASAP. There so many curves in the ghats But still I managed to keep a good pace and around 3:30 I reached BEKAL.

        Couldn't capture any pics at BEKAL fort, But all I recorded was the video here.

        ---- FORT VIEW IN VIDEO----

        After spending about an hour at BEKAL fort I started to search for beaches on the way to UDUPI via Mangalore, where I can experience the sunset.
        So I zeroed down to NITK suratkal beach and wanted to reach quickly As I need to cross Mangalore city. found the below bridge on the way.

        The sun was about to set for the day when I reached the beach and there were many clouds so couldn't get a perfect view of the sunset. But I really enjoyed being at the place.

        After the sunset every one started to leave the beach and I also started to gear up to leave.

        When I came here, I parked my bike very close to the road, but there was little sand covered with some grass. I thought the grass will help me give some grip to get out of the sand. I started and revved the bike it was not moving forward, tried again but no help. Then I saw a small wooden plate, took it and placed below the rearTyre and started to move. It didn't bear the bike's 155 kg and my 60 Kg and broke off in a single move. Then I saw a sandal and kept it on the rear Tyre, it helped to move a little bit but again the Tyre went deep into the sands.

        I thought now it's time to call for help. there were 3 guys passing by. I called them for the help and they exactly knew what to do with the bike, they used their techniques to bring the bike out of the sand.
        They told me that, If I ever stuck in sand just deflate the rear tyre and it will help me to get out. Had a little conversation with them and the left for UDUPI which was around 30 to 40 K.Ms.

        Reached the hotel around 8:00 P.M, the hotel manager was shocked to see me with all the gears, bungee cords, bags, rain covers, umbrella etc. He handed over the key to me, I went to the room, took bath and had a nice dinner and then went into a nice sleep.

        DAY 2 coming soon.....

            DAY 2 : 570 K.M
            ------------------------

            I had plans for the next day even before starting the journey from bangalore. The wedding was around 11:30 A.M in the morning and I had planned to visit Maravante Beach and Byndoor beach ASAP and come back to hotel. Marvante is around 60 K.M from Hotel and Byndoor an additional 20 k.M, so
            a total of 160 K.M up and down.

            Thanks to all my friends who chose to come by bus, who called me around 5:30 in the morning to ask the location of the hotel. Because I forgot to put alarm the previous night. Suddenly I sent them the name and the GPS cordinates of the hotel and went to get fresh quickly, geared up and I was ready to roll.

            The road from Mangalore to UDUPI is in excellent condition and it's 4 lane. But from UDUPI on wards there were few diversions because still the construction is going on but still the road was good for about 50 K.M up to Maravante. So I started at 6 o clock and reached Maravante around 6:40 spent 20 mins there.

            Started again at 7 and reached byndoor in around half an hour this stretch was not so good but Okayish.

            I wanted to take the pic from the top place where I saw many bikers have taken the pic but I didn't exactly knew where that place is. I searched there for about 10 mins but I didn't get it. It was around 8:30 and time to head back to hotel because I wanted to reach by 10 to attend the wedding.

            While returning I saw a place from a bridge and it was looking nice so quickly wanted to cover that place. The place's name is KANNADA KUDRU.

            I returned back to hotel by 10:15 and all the guys who came by bus were getting fresh. I also got freshed up. Guys who came by bus were supposed to bring the GIFT from bangalore but they forgot to bring it. Myself and another guy went to search for a gift center and shortlisted the below one.

            This was the third time I was attending a south western karnataka marriage, where the rituals are performed a little different from north Karnataka.We wished the couple and it was time to return. We checked out the room and I said bye bye to all my friends who were travelling by bus.

            Now it was the time to decide the route, UDUPI --> Mangalore --> Sakaleshpur --> Hassan was the quickest route with good roads. I have already been to sakaleshpur and some parts of the shiradi ghats last year. As Go Pro Man suggested Charmadi would be more scenic route but with narrow roads, I wanted to try charmadi route, finalised it, set the map for Ujire first it was 100 K.M from UDUPI via KARKALA, because it was 4 o clock and I need to reach there ASAP. because once the sun goes down it's all dark and won't be able to enjoy the view.

            The road was good all along but it was narrow, Ridden hard in straight lines and with careful in curves and by 5:30 I was in Ujire. After crossing Ujire the Charmaadi ghat starts and it's stretched till Banakal.

            It was around 6 and I got a nice spot to enjoy the view, clicked some selfies and recorded few shots and left the place around 7 o clock. It was all fogged and nice to ride again in the fog after a very long time since winter 2016.

            HOW CAN I FORGET THIS PLACE?? I found this place 2 years back while covering Belur and Halebeedu. Each time I take a pic in front of this place.

            pic not available

            I reached Hassan around 9:30 and was little tired because I only took a petrol break and 2 other breaks till now from UDUPI.

            Had 4 Idly's and 3 Vada's and a hot milk, I geared up again and started at 10:00 and reached bangalore by 12:45.

            Thanks to my WOLF which did a great job on highway's and ghat's which helped in covering greater distances in less time.
