The trip was for 2 days. We will start at Saturday evening and reach there in the night. We stay in adimali in the night and will forward to munnar in the morning. That was the plan. I checked the tire condition tire pressure, brake fluids, engine oil level and found myself satisfied. I took an extra pair of dress, charger, headsets etc. and I went to buddy’s home. I was waiting for him and he showed up after 10 minutes on his angel. His Unicorn was a new one and just had her first service. He couldn’t leave her in home. So we got ourselves a good ride. We stopped in the nearest helmet store to replace buddy’s helmet. We have a trusted fuel station in our city and we filled our tanks from there (usually in mountain areas fuel quality is not so good). We are all set and left the Palai town at 6.00 P.M. Ahead of us was the great Pala-thodupuzha high way (newly expanded one). We twist the throttle and ride between 60-65 as we don’t want to heat up the engine so badly.
The roads were in good condition and mixed with hills, slopes and corners. My buddy was the pilot vehicle as I don’t know the way. Night riding was a scary one as I don’t have much helpful headlights. Buddy’s condition was also not so good. He is familiar with the road and he keeps on riding at 55-60 even in corners. Then we took a break after 60 Kms. We bought a few orbits to keep away the loneliness in fact am singing to myself all the way from Pala. Night riding is a variety feel guys. Then the road became hard to ride as my buddy has no idea about the rest of the road. So I start riding on his right-hand side by staying on the tail. It helped for better visibility of the road. Again we took a break after Neryamangalam. We made some phone calls and my buddy out in his jacket as it started to get cold. I always ride on jacket and gloves on.
We started the engines and continued our journey. The next stop was Adimali and my friend was waiting for me there. He arranged us accommodation. We parked the bikes safely and lock it well even though they had security people. We went out for dinner in a so called “Thattukada” (fast food opens only on night). The accommodation facility was pretty good. We made some chatting and slept well.
The next day we got up early and ready for day two. Then the worst happened. It affects our entire trip.
