My first solo trip in 150cc UNICORN from Theni to Varkala
Hi seniors, this is my first writeup and am pretty much excited about it. My hometown theni lies close to kodaikanal and munnar. In the past had done occasional trips to those places with my father's discover 150cc. So, for this diwali holidays planned a trip to varkala with my cousins@riding partner's. But unfortunately none of them could make the ride. The decision was left to me. Against all the odds i decided to take the ride. I dont have any bike on my own. My fathers discover went to workshop. So borrowed my uncle's unicorn. That's a 2011 edition. Will add the full details after the approval.Tags: None

Re: My first solo trip in 150cc UNICORN from Theni to Varkala
Thank you MONK. The thrill of my first solo ride never allowed me to sleep on the previous night. I woke up before the alarm at 5.30AM. I started out from my home at 7.00AM. Being the deepavali holiday, the traffic was so much low. Witnessed the sunrise near the chinnamanur at the cumbum valley.
.
The views before the kumuli ghat are awesome. The whole area was filled with grape plantations. Even though i crossed this area umpteen number of times, Early morning gives me a whole different experience. I was steadily cruising at 60, when i tried to cross 60 the bike has started vibrating, so i keep it simple at 60.
Because of less traffic climbed the kumuli ghat in no time.
To my surprise, being next day to diwali, it was a working day in kerela. I have to slow down as the route was frequented by numerous amount of school buses. I crossed vandiperiyar, kuttikanam and mundakayam. There are two different routes, one is going through erumely and the other one going through kayamkulam. I already have the experience of going through erumely in truck. It was filled with rubber trees and pineapple gardens. I always wanted to go through that. So, I decided to go through erumely.
The traffic was moderate when compared to kumuli section. I have not stopped anywhere after taking that sunrise photo. My back was killing me. I badly need a break, i decided to have my breakfast at erumely. The trip shows 118 km. Then i have to go through pattanamthitta and ranni. The roads are in bad shape and construction works are going there. It heavily slows me down. The pattanamthitta-Adoor stretch is a nice one. After Adoor, the NH comes in upto kottarakara. Steadily maintained 60 in this stretch. Had a tea in kottarakara. After kottarakara, again it was narrow two lane upto varkala. When i tried to search my room, i accidentally ended up at this place. The first sight of sea after 7.30 hrs of journey.
I find my room, i booked in yatrio. A new resort. It only has three rooms. But have a good view on the sea. After freshen up, visited the cliff beach. Varkala is not the ordinary indian beach you see everywhere. It is a whole different thing. Unlike the common indian beaches you see everywhere with plain sand, it have small structures other than that it was filled with cliffs. The cliff was filled by numerous restaurants at a slight costly price. It was mostly frequented by foreigners than the indians. There were many beaches on the same trot. One can enjoy the beautiful sunset in varkala. It will be raining there without any signs.
My night at one of the restaurants
During the next morning, woke up and have a walk along the beach, to find more beautiful places.

Then i got freshenup and planned to visit kappil beach, a beach located on the out skirts of the city. The beach had a breathtaking view. The beach had lake runs parallel along it, and a road runs parallel to the lake. It was a dream location. Unfortunately due to huge traffic, i cant take any snaps out there.

After visiting the kappil beach, i started my rerurn journey. Even though i wanted to stay, budget constraints never allowed me to do so. Fortunately, the roads are empty. So i reached kottarakara very quickly. Had my lunch before adoor. Easily crossed adoor, pathanamthitta and erumely. After mundakayam it started raining heavily with thick fog. The headlamp on my unicorn was not upto the limit. The lowbeam was utterly waste. So, i tied the pass light switch tightly, so that it will always be in the on position, then switched on the light in low beam. Now i can have both high and low beam at same time. But the fog and rain have never allowed me to cross 50.

It got even worser in the kumuli ghat section, where the incoming truck traffic make it hard for those who are going downwards. After getting down, the rain also stopped. Then it is a familiar road for me. Rode to my home at 7.45PM.
ROUTE DETAILS:
MY NATIVE-CUMBUM-KUMILI-KUTTIKANAM-MUNDAKAYAM-ERUMELY-ADOOR-KOTTARAKARA-VARKALA.
Overall trip reading-519 km.

Thank you bro. Luckily i had the 2 in 1 gear. Though it costs almost half of my packing space, it came to my rescue at last.Originally posted by Saravanan Murdlock View PostBeautiful log it is. have you had the rain gear with you or you reached home soggy?Last edited by lokeshuv; 10-22-2017, 09:00 PM.
