    Day 4 continued....

    By the time I finished my Ajanta sojourn it was already 2.00p.m and tired to the core because of heat and to top it I was wearing riding gear. The bad route guaranteed that I will take atleast 2.00hrs (that too if I ride fast) to reach my hotel and thereafter taking bath and having lunch will take another hour. So I can start only by 5.00 with an hour and thirty minutes of daylight to content with. Suddenly I found that I may not be able to do any more destination……

    Without thinking any further I started my bike for a 100km dash to hotel. And dash it was, for 70odd kms I was standing on the footpegs with the speedo continuously showing upward of 90km/hr. It was the fastest 100kms of my life on the kind of road that I had to contend with. I just knew that I have finish the stretch as fast as possible no matter how bad the road is. All my concentration was on the number of kms that I was doing. After exactly one hour and fifteen mins I was standing in front of my hotel with a big grin.
    By 4.15p.m I started for Paithan. 20kms and I again ventured into Lonely planet. All I could see was fields and barren lands on both sides with not a single soul around. After like 30 odd kms on that stretch I spotted a vehicle on the road. There was something more in store for me. The road abruptly ended in the middle of a field after I finished some 90kms. I had a no clue where to go next. There was not a single person in the vicinity. Saw a house some half a km inside the field. Had no option so went there and luckily I found an elderly person at the home. First of all he had no idea about the dam. Next I asked whether there is any river nearby to which he said I need to go back around 1 km and take a kuccha road through the field which will take me to Paithantown. I followed his orders and I did reached Paithan but it was a complete disappointment.

    Just see the board and the direction of Paithan

    Typical small town which bursts with no proper planning whatsoever, crowded, building standing one over another. By this time I completely lost all my hopes of exploring anything in this place but anyways I wanted to check the river bed(If there is one) coming all this distance. It took me some 30minutes to wander around and finally reaching the place.

    So there is atleast a river and it’s not that bad as the city but it should be huge according to the map. Isn’t it? and here it doesn’t look anything more than small stream.

    The satisfaction was definitely there of reaching the desired place and that too at the perfect time with sun setting behind the dam. Clicked some pictures and while clicking one of the pictures I observed some people on top of the dam. Now how did these guys reached there. There should be a way out for me to also go and check the top of the dam. Asked a few people sitting on the bank side but they were clueless. Decided to go to the other side of the river and check it myself. Crossed the river and I found a small road bifurcating from the main towards the top. Yes there is a gate up there.
    Sunset shots

    The small bridge across the river(Just check the width of the river)

    Shot of the dam

    Reached the top and the first words that came from my mouth was “ ****this is huge”. For kms and kms all you can see is water and only water. Really its very difficult to pen down my first feelings when I first get to the top of the dam and the best part was that there was no one else to disturb my serenity, peace as all the junta was on the other side of the dam and this being the closing time of the gate no one else will come up. There was this security guard who came quite a few times to tell that photography is not allowed. More than my presence it was my camera which was disturbing him but how could I leave this place without a single photo. Started conversation with him and he told the stories of the dam. The boundary wall that was created around the river was 11km long. Now that’s huge. There used to be boating and all sort of activities on river Godavari and it used to attract a lot of tourist but some 1 year back there were two back to back events of people sinking in the Godavari river and everything was closed from that point of time which stopped the flow of tourists and now it’s just another place. Spent some more time trying to capture the beauty that nature had to provide. Although I have experienced some fantastic sunrise & sunset throughout this whole trip but this is the most beautiful sky that I had seen in the whole trip.

    Finally the guard came to me and said that I can click just one photo and I clicked two and it came pretty good considering the lighting that I had at that time. I was leaving when the guard told me that there is light and sound show which happens everyday and I should check it out. The place was not very far from the dam. The show was for 1hr. It was 7.30 so by the time it finishes it will be 8.30p.m. In the back of my mind I was always aware that I need to cover that 70km stretch where it was difficult to kind a single person even on daytime. I decided to leave the light and show for some other time and started for Jalna.

    The two shots which I had clicked

    Took this picture while coming down frm the dam

    Took some 30minutes to get back to the main way after a lot of lost and found moments. It was actually pretty difficult to find your way out with no one to ask and you having no clue which side to go. Finally reached to that point from where I just need to follow the straight road. After my first day heroics I was actually not feeling scary. A bit of uneasiness was there but I was somehow enjoying it. I stopped at a point and tried to capture the beauty of darkness. Spent some 15 minutes and then moved on. Reached hotel at around 10.00p.m.

    This was the best six hrs of my whole trip. Paithan I’m coming back very soon.

                          • Gr8 set of pics again & nicely written.

                            Well the reverse process (what I could make) is that tree is withering away. Probably, MG wanted to indicate that leaves have mostly gone & life cycle is in reverse process.

                            @MG - M I right ??
