  • Ooty!!! A perfect place for the summer ride

Obtaining approvals from home is getting much harder especially you say bikes. Inspite of the last experience I have to tell that am going for an official audit in Thrissur. My fellow buddies did the same. We were three riders with a unicorn, Royal Enfield Standard 350 and my beloved RTR 180. We started planning 2,3 months back. We have 3 options for the route via valparai, attappady or Palakkad-walayar. Heard so much about the Attppady route and fix the same.

The plan was to start journey at 5 A.M on march 10, 2018 and to stay somewhere between ooty and Kotagiri. Since it’s a trip nothing will work as per the plan. The route is as follows:

Well brother. Most of the parents are scared because of frequent bike accidents reported daily. So when i say official they agreed to go. Otherwise i won't be able to find the key of my bike for a couple of days. I tell the destination and other details to my parents but the only thing am hiding is its a road trip. Its only for long distance travels. Otherwise no issues.

        ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

When we say bike trips, people including our colleagues were like this: “Are you mad or are you out of your mind?? Bikes are meant for 50 kms ride in a day maximum. You guys are crazy!! Then they start commenting and criticising us. We don’t mind any of these as we are like this and we always wants to be like this.

        Day -1
It all starts from the travelogue in FB to ooty. Got our bikes serviced and we all set. It was so hot and so hard to ride in the day especially in Palakkad area especially with your rain jackets on which really pints out the need of a mesh jacket. So we started early at 5 AM. The initial stop was at Thrissur for the breakfast. First time in Saravana Bhavan and it tastes so good.

Its better to have the originals of all the documents with you. We have to show them on the 3 check posts in Attappady. It’s a Maoist threatened area and stopping in the forest is not allowed. So miss the photographs. The reason for selecting this route was the hairpins and the corners. 50+ hairpins all the way from attappadi till ooty. Loved it and enjoyed each one of it. Wish I had a knee guard with me to scratch.

We got out from the botanical garden by 6.30 P.M. We found accommodation in near the botanical garden itself. It costs us Rs. 800 for 3 people. Being a mallu we always love porotta which is so costly in Ooty. One costs Rs. 20 wherein Kerala it’s only Rs. 10. We call it a day.

Re: Ooty!!! A perfect place for the summer ride

          Day-2
Day 2 was full of surprises. We have to bath in cold water in the morning as hot water shall be available only after 8 A.M. The plan was to visit ST STEPHENS CHURCH, Ooty Lake, pine forest, Pykara Lake and waterfalls, then return to coonoor and then home via Palakkad. We have coonoor in mind from the planning itself and we don’t want to miss it. We started at 7 A.M. Vacated the room and had a hot tea. Then pursued towards the lake. Unfortunately the lake was closed. So we proceed towards the church. The next destination was pine forest and pykara. We had our breakfast from Pykara. It was 11.30 A.M when we finish our visits in Pykara. We have to get home before 11 P.M. So after some discussion and lots of regrets we decided to skip Coonoor and pursued on the gudallur route.

Needle rock view point was one of the major attraction in the in gudallur route. The route was awesome with good roads and awesome feel. Nilambur was a real treat to the eyes but the road works are undergoing. So you have to vigilant as corners are untarred mostly. After that we hate the route. So much hot, we increased the speed to 70-80 kmph. That time we found something so interesting on the road. I never ride in a big group. A group of around 12 bikers were in front of us. We added 3 more to the group and they accompanied us till Thrissur. Wow!! It was amazing to ride in such big group. Their signals and communications were awesome. They got the flow, the rhythm and it was so cool to see such a group of riders in the road. Many people clicked us and I feel so proud.
