  • In search of a good place to have 'HIT'

    Day 124th May 2017):
it all started on a Sunday evening adda session with my buddy Amit. He had heard a lot about my bike tours and he wanted to join me on a short tour to the mountains. I told him its my last week in Calcutta so lets make it count. So we sat and booked a volvo to NJP for Thursday (24th May). I called up Santanu Da( Kmph, NJP) and told him that i would require a RE Himalayan. He told me its peak season and nearly all his fleet of bikes were out on rent. I requested him and thus with the help of Roger i was able to book the MAHINDRA MOJO. Me and my himalayan partner (Atish Khettry) had done the NJP-ZULUK-GANGTOK-NJP circuit on the same bike last year. Atish was riding the mojo and i was on a Apache 200.
to begin with the bus left at 2100 and to be honest an overnight volvo journey is not comfortable at all and we reached Xkmph at around 1100.
We had a small pep talk with Santanu da regarding the weather up in the hills and we began our onward journey. The plan was to ride a the circuit of NJP-LAVA-RISHOP-GANGTOK-NJP.

        Day 2: 25th May

the day began with the handover of the Mojo. We reduced our luggage to 1 bag as Amit had to carry it on his shoulder and we began our onward journey. The one thing i would like to mention is that NJP traffic sucks big time but once you hit the Sevoke highway the smooth roads of Mahanada Wildlife sanctuary leaves you mesmerized. The roads are crisp and the tree line along it adds to the ride. It took us about 30 minutes to reach our first pit stop "PRADHAN HOTEL". If you ever are visiting Sikkim and are on a tight budget do visit this small eatery. The paratha's are mouthwatering and adding to that you have a nice clean bathroom which you can use it to freshen yourself before you hit the hills. (its just after the sevoke bazar petrol pump).
We rode on and crossed the Coronation bridge and rode on till damdim. The roads are well laid out on this stretch and after damdim began the upward climb towards Lava. it is this climb that made me a fan of the Mahindra Mojo. Its a beast on uphill wet roads and the low seating position makes you feel planted on every corner. The rain and the winds were making it difficult for us to move any further so we decided to take a pit stop and have a small snack on the corner of a small tea garden. Pictures of our pit stop.
