Got my new bike Bajaj Avenger 220 Street 2018, recently (Also own Yamaha Fazer 2011). Got the bike purposely for touring. Since I'm 6.2 feet in height, it was difficult for me to ride long distance in fazer causing back pain in between itself. So rode my friend's Avenger 150 few times to see how it is and i was satisfied with it (ofc read many traveler's review and touring diaries)
Somehow completed 500 km in 30 days and completed my 1st service and i immediately wanted to start the ride and started the ride in the next 15 days.
JUNE 16th
Started from my home at around 5:45 AM. Since this was my 1st ride and that too 450+ km, i was slightly nervous but even more excited as i was going to my hometown where is was born and raised for around 20 years.
With only a 24 liter backpack tied with bungee cords perfectly in the back seat, it was comfortable to lean behind. Took the Avadi - Thiruverkadu road and carried on.
Was going around 40-55 kmph, Had around 2 liters of petrol already so kept going thinking i can fill petrol later.
Reached Vandalur and badly wanted to hit the highways to speed up and highways was just like 5-6 km from Vandalur. Crossed Perungalathur in the next 10 mins and stopped to fill petrol.
Filled 7 liters of petrol which came around Rs.550. No i didn't want to fill the tank as i wanted to keep track of the mileage as Avengers are known for the mileage of 40 kmpl and there are tons and tons of petrol bunks till Madurai.
Hit the highway and gradually started to increase my speed. 60, 70 and then the entire journey was at an average of 80 kmph.
Felt like i was travelling for a long time already (may be because of the 1st time thing) and was frequently seeing the map to reach Melmaruvathur and in around 1 hour and 45 min.
From here it was just Highway till Madurai, the weather was humid/hot so felt bored and just carried on riding, enjoyed watching the scenery around.
Had Breakfast at around 10'o clock somewhere before Villupuram. Kept going, going, going. Reached Samayapuram, Trichy and it started to drizzle and there was a sudden storm/heavy winds which shook my bike and i immediately slowed down to 35 from 80 kmph and had to maintain the same speed for the next 10 min and it rained heavily and the wind was even more stronger where a pulsar guy riding before me fell down and i had to stop near a shop for 15 min. Had a 7up waiting for the climate to settle and began riding.
Crossed Trichy. Being settled in Chennai, when i reached Trichy i was so happy and was crying in happiness to see the south cities (Typical Feeling everyone from South cities who had to settle in Chennai) moreover i have a strong relation with Trichy as i spent my college days there and kept riding.
Crossed Thuvarankurichi , then comes MELUR (For the people of Madurai who travel from Chennai to Madurai, when they see Melur which is the outskirts of Madurai, we have the happiest feeling that we have already reached Madurai) and i had the same feeling, was smiling and some tears of joy. Again filled petrol for 4 liters and carried on.
At last entered Madurai city from a long Highway ride through Rajaji hospital and what a feeling. The long boring highways ride vanished. All my childhood, teen age the areas where i used to go with my dad, with friends etc. Was literally watching all the buildings around from there, then to Simmakal, Madura Coats bridge, New Jail road and finally reached my destination in By Pass road.
A good 450+ Km ride came to an end.
This will always be my best and the special ride.
