July 31st morning (Tuesday) - Bangalore - Yercaud (237 kms one way, plus exploring the ghat roads at Yercaud)
1st August (Wednesday) - Yercaud - Yelagiri - Bangalore (148km plus 169km back home)
As I was scouring through Google Maps (I love doing this before any ride, as you may spot some hillock or water body that could be explored en route
), I noticed that Kolli Hills was just 90 kms from Yercaud. This would mean that, we would have to ride Yercaud to Kolli Hills, and then Kolli Hills to Bangalore on the same day. That would mean, 90kms + 270kms = 360kms of riding in one day! When I put this plan forward to Midhun, he agreed instantly, as Kolli Hills was on his radar too for a long time ! For those that don't know, Kolli Hills encapsulates 70 hairpin bends, and are considered one of the more dangerous hill roads in South India.DAY 1:
So plan set, we met at Shell Petrol Bunk Ganganagar at 6 in the morning. The route would be Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Yercaud
Smooth roads towards Krishnagiri
That's me on my steed
The duo
With the occasional stops for breakfast and tea, we were cruising smoothly en-route to Yercaud. After a long time I was riding at a sedate pace, knowing that I didn't need to rush back home by evening. The two lane highway from Bangalore to Krishnagiri is butter smooth with almost nil potholes, and good scenery consisting of small hillocks on either side. It converts to a three lane highway towards Salem, and hats off to Tamil Nadu Government for maintaining the roads in such pristine condition. WOW! So smooth, gradual gradient changes, EPIC! Thoroughly enjoyed this stretch.
Here are some stills of some curves nearing Yercaud.
As we were nearing our stay at Yercaud, we entered this black pepper forest sort of environ. The color of the leaves and the atmosphere was just sublime! Although we were very close to our stay, we HAD to stop and take pictures!
Fully refreshed after this stretch, We reached our destination at, Sushmika Villas and Resorts. Since Midhun knew this owner previously, we got a room for Rs. 1500 per night. It has a terrace and balcony. Highly recommended.

After a good meal, we proceeded towards the star attractions of Yercaud, the Gent's Seat and The Lady's Seat. It is worth to visit them. You get a good view of Yercaud surroundings.
