  • Solo bike trip in Uttarakhand

    Fellow bikers,

I am planning for a trek expedition in Uttarakhand in December first week. I will be joining one of the group tours however I plan to drive on my own until the base camp and meet the group there.

The ride will be mostly from Dehradun till Sankri or nearby place based on the trek I chose.

I would like to get some suggestions on following in case anybody has already been through such trip/s:

    1. How safe is it to drive solo in terms of weather & road conditions during Dec time frame?

    2. Which bike is recommended (thinking of avenger or pulsar)?

    3. Are there proper road signs or I need to depend on google map?

    4. any recommended bike rental agency in Dehradun?

Any other tips are also welcome.

    Thanks

    Regards
    Swair Vihari

1- It is totally safe, just carry good winter gear and a good touring jacket, atleast. Undergloves, warm balaclavas, pinlock shield on helmet visor. Very much needed.

2- Any bike will do, I am from Uttarakhand and I have ridden all of it on a Pulsar 150.

3- There are proper road signs almost everywhere, people are very helpful.

4- There are many bike rental agencies in Dehradun.

1.Road conditions are fine ,unless snowfall in hilly areas. Then the major problem sinks in.
Landslides and roadblocks are common if snowfall occurs.
            2. Between avenger and pulsar choose the one ,on sitting which your toes completely land on ground.
Riding through hills ,on uneven surfaces is a difficulty. Unintensionally you may get stuck at some point on road where you dont have ground to land your foot because of elevation ,broken roads and stones all over the road.
            I would recommend avenger.
3.Road map is required, make sure you save it offline ,as theres less internet connectivity.
            4. Best bike rental is gimmebyk in dehradun.
