  • My Delhi-Narkanda-Sarahan Trip.

I don’t know what to call it….. Man proposes God Disposes…or something of the similar Kinds.

After working day in and day out at a Two wheeler Dealer, the Touring bug in me once again started to itch. I spoke to a few of my Dear Xbhpians for a wonderful two three days get away in Hills and then …it was…Chitkul.!!
So it was me on my 2007 Zma with a Dentist as a Pillion, and then we were accompanied by a Biking Enthusiast from Xbhp (Never say Never) who had a Business Analyst as Pillion on his 2007 Cbz Xtreme.
The day decided was 11th May 2009, and the schedule time of departure was 11 PM from Delhi, this was owing to the fact that we wanted to reach Chandigarh/ Kalka by the daybreak so as to avoid the harsh Day Sun. But then again, it’s never so easy to get the office work finished on time…and somehow, I was able to pack up the baggage only by 11:59 pm.

I as always, had packed almost everything that I thought would be needed on a trip, mobile chargers, Battery Chargers, balaclavas, woolens, rain suits, tripod( Excuse me for my bad Clicks, but the tripod was more of a Poser Thing), one strong Rope, Tool kit, first aid kit…in short.. Everything under the sun.
We picked up our respective and respectable pillions and by the time we stopped at the Indian Oil Petrol Pump on the Ring Road to fill the Tanks… it was already 0315 hrs, Tuesday Morning, 12th May, 2009

Waiting for the approval from the Mods to continue.

Hmm! Finally. Though it has been pretty prompt. I have posted travelogues 3 months down the line!
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Our Second Stop At Karnal Zhilmil Dhaba!

After filling up our bikes, we were on the NH to Chandigarh. My bike fitted with a wonderful Phillips Xtreme was showing me way through the dark highway past the Delhi Border. I have done this Delhi Punjab Highway so many times in the last 14 odd years that I find this Route to be comfortable but utmost boring.
Anyways, cruising at a comfortable speed of 80-90, we decided to pull over at Murthal’s famous Gulshan Dhaba for a quick bite. My idea of riding is a bit different. I generally take more stops, but not sacrificing on the expected time to reach the destination. Also, for the fact that we had Ladies as pillions so we were expecting this ride to be slower than usual.
So, after having our Morning Tea at Gulshan Dhabha, we started again. Our next stop was going to be Zhilmil Dhaba on the Karnal and I hoped that we will be able to reach Zhilmil in the next hour and a half. The ride past Samalkha was better as it was already day break and the lights from the oncoming traffic wasn’t hurting too much. As we reached the Panipat Toll Road, I decided to check the maximum speed that I could attain with a pillion and around 8 kgs of luggage. I could barely touch 125kmph with all the load and could fairly see the effect of wind resistance due to a Saddle Bag. Post the Panipat Toll Gate, we were again cruising at decent 90-100 kmph. I could see few Car walahs making faces at us, for the fact that all four of us were wearing a proper Riding jacket, all four of us had Studds Ninja. Anyhow, we reached Zhilmil Dhaba in the next hour and fifteen minutes. The weather was good, a bit on the colder side. We ordered some breakfast of Lovely paranthas and Tea and clicked some photos of the morning sun.

@ all: Well, despite the fact that I have been traveling for more than a decade now, I haven't had the chance of doing anything remarkable, and to top it up, am not even half as good as Old Fox, Aryan, Sunny, Ken at penning down the words so, if my Mates are expecting an out of this world, too-good-to-be-true, simply marvelous thing; than Sorry Mates...you might well be disappointed.

A single stop for food generally takes us back by an hours’ ride, so in order to compensate for the lost time, we rode a bit fast from Karnal towards Chandigarh. After crossing the Kingfisher Resort at Ambala, we could hear the amazing sound of the Fighter planes …. We stopped past the resort to see if we can spot any one of them, but to the utter dismay, the only one …which we could spot was so far off in the sky that we could barely make if it was a fighter plane or some small black sparrow.
After crossing Ambala, I called up my dear Friend Prakhar ( xBhpian from Chandigarh, aka Blackfire_9) who agreed to meet us at Zirakpur-Kalka Road, Panchkula.
We met Prakhar at 0830hrs at the highway and shared the pleasantries. After that, we topped up our fuel tanks. As it was getting hotter and hotter and Prakhar had to leave for the office, we bid him Bye and promised to see him on our way back. From there onwards, we rode decently at speeds of 50-60, for there is a major road widening work going on till Pinjore.
We hit the hills at Kalka, and by that time, the sun was showing its full grace, making us sweat under the riding gear. I suggested that we should take a small brake again, for some Cool refreshing Himachali Fruit Juice at Jawli near Solan

Looks like you guys had a nice trip. Stopping where you wanted to stop, catching a cool drink, meeting up with acquaintances... instead of running and riding hard non stop and ending up with sore butts and locked wrists!

Yes Ken, as I said Earlier, I love to ride, but then it is with some difference. I am not here to set any kind of endurance record, though I appreciate people who can do so. I would take a break at the drop of the hat, would stop just to catch a glimpse of some wonderful looking Sweetie and what not...heheheheehh, am just a Rider!

Some more clicks, though nothing great about any of them.

That is a nice way of going about your ride. Enjoying life, looking around, taking a break, taking "it" in, soaking in the ambience of your surroundings, instead of setting records. I am sure you enjoy it.
