  • A 'Short' long ride

I and my wife were planning for a long drive for long. And also I’m planning to buy a new bike this year (2019). I shortlisted on Dominar & Himalayan. Though we had test driven these two bikes from showrooms, but that was merely 3-4KMs, which really didn’t help us on ascertaining pros & cons of both the bikes and taking the right decision. So thought of renting both the bikes and gong for a long test drive. This way I can test the bike as a rider and my wife can see how comfortable she is as a pillion on a long ride.

Upon searching for places around Hyderabad, we found “Singur Dam” to be a perfect choice. Its about 90Kms from Hyderabad city centre. Two days before the weekend I booked a Bajaj Dominar 2017 for rental from Drivezy. Our plan is to start by 9-9:30AM reach the destination by 12PM and return to the city by 4-5PM.

More about the dam can be found in wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singur_Dam

It’s a lovely Saturday morning, with pleasant weather, perfect for a long drive. I got ready by 08:30 AM and by 9AM I reached Drivezy parking lot to pick up the bike. After quick initial inspection & formalities I took possession of the bike drove straight to the petrol pump to get it filled up. After it was filled I got the tire pressures checked. To by big surprise, the bike’s rear tire pressure is too low indication a possibility of a tire puncture.

I got the tire filled and rode slowly in search of a tyre puncture repair shop. After getting the puncture repaired, I drove to my home to pick up my wife. Its already 11:15AM now. We are 2.5 Hrs behind initial planned schedule.

We started our journey at 11.30 AM. There was moderate traffic in the city and only after crossing the ORR(Outer Ring Road) the roads are clear with sparse traffic. After travelling about 70Km, we need to get off the highway to take a single lane road that leads to Singur Dam. Since its already 2PM, we decided to stop for lunch break and decided to go to “New Deccan Bawarchi Restaurant and Resort“ on NH65.

We had veg food here, and its good. We resumed our journey again.

At about 03:15PM we reached the dam.

Well the crowd near the dam is not that huge(when compared to malls/parks in cities), so I can say its good place for a weekend visit. The water in the dam is not much deep, people here say it has been years since the dam gates are opened. So don’t expect the scenic beauty of much larger dams like the Nagarjun Sagar. Visitors are allowed to walk along the stretch of the dam.

There are also steps to go beneath the dam which actually takes us near the dam water:

We saw few fisherman fishing in the dam water on their thermocol(polystyrene) made mini boats that can accommodate single person. The time is around 4.30pm, the water is calm with pleasant air breeze that made us stick to that place for almost an hour.

We finally came out of dam. There are couple of huts where they are selling fried fish that are made on order along with alcohol(mostly beer). We decided to give it a try on fish fry and ordered it. The taste is delicious, although I’m not sure if the fish is actually from dam water or else where.

We started back to Hyderabad at around 5:30pm. Cruised through the highway and once we crossed the ORR (Outer Ringed Road) and entered the city heavy traffic welcomed us. After crawling through the heavy traffic we reached home at around 8 pm. So the weekend was well spent.

Note: We took this ride long back in August 2019, I really didn’t get time to post this until today.

Nicely put! And must say that you took the right way to test a potential purchase!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Well, I liked it, but the rented Dominar isn't in great condition.

But I made a decision and went ahead in purchasing one.

I shared my buying decision & experience in the following thread:
