  • Unplanned was the PLAN!!! For year end ride 2019

The last ride that we (me and wife) did was he Ooty-Valparai ride we did 3-4 months back. Later, we clubbed Jog Falls on the way to attending a festival in my wife's native place.
Once that was done, life made us busy in our respective fields. Add to that we deciding to shift to my native place and aiming to learn agriculture. So we planned to shift from our company township in December 2019. We planned to do that before the 25th. To our bad luck, we did not get the clearance letter from the authority and ended up getting it late... as late as the 31st of December! History repeated itself and all the plans that we had of enjoying the last ride of 2019 were gone in 60 seconds.
I came back home at 3 PM after getting the clearance letter. The house was a mess as we had packed our stuff (for shifting) in advance. Due the delay and all that, things went from bad to worse.
It was a mood-off day for the both of us. It is really difficult to manage your dear ones when they are sad... especially if they are short (Damn... I can literally do anything when I look at that puppy like face she makes [emoji23][emoji23]).
In a firm voice, I told her, "Let's go for a ride. "Where? What's the plan", she asked. I said, "The plan is... Unplanned!"
I did not have a clue where to take her as it was already 4 PM and there was no way we were getting a homestay in the hillstations nearby as it was the 31st.

    To be continued..[emoji3][emoji3]

Re: Unplanned was the PLAN!!! For year end ride 2019

          Sorry for the delay brothers.
Thank you so much admin for approving post(specially for the corrections u done) with proof reading[emoji6].
Well.. after so much years of traveling (riding)till date, time made us to learn what are the essential things we need to carry, when it's about couple traveling. Also after so many delayed ride beginning, we troubleshooted the cause and we corrected ourselves according to that.
          It's "PACKING"..!!!
NO matter we ride for that month or not, we keep a bag packed with clothes for 2 days, first aid kit, mosquito repellent, ORS,
required documents and all other essential Nick nacks.
I personally keep tent and insulation foam tied and covered in a polythene cover. So additional packing needed was
Small stove, butane canister, cooking utensils I,e non stick tava, tea making container, flask and steel water bottle.
Bungee ropes, chain oil, chain tightening tools i always keep in bike side bag. I took a quick shower and both of us got ready,
Finally we loaded the bike. We left township at 5pm. 5.30pm we were riding towards kudremukh national park after completing shopping (took 1 packet Kerala Id parota, ready to cook. Eggs and other needed veggies).
At 6.45pm we were at mala check post, after finishing tea and some snacks (we skipped evening tea at home for packing) got our check-in slip for riding through kudremukh national park mentioning our journey towards kalasa. I personally call kudremukh region, a poor man's green ladhakh. It owns everything inside. Beautiful road, Falls, peaks, trails, river, temple, view point, floora and fauna, humble people, wild animals etc..
When you just enter through mala check post, u immediately notice is, drop in TEMP...!. during summer it's just cold but in winter it's BONE chilling cold weather.(we came with proper layer still my hands got numb even after wearing winter gloves.and thanks to SMK helmet which comes with pin lock attached, so it was easy to ride keeping visitor closed fully)

While riding I was just thinking where to go, what to do..?. Reason I took slip to kalasa was, it's famous for temple and the temple trust owns few good guest house with reasonable price and due to new year Eve celebration it will be less crowded.around 9.30pm we reached kalasa town.(exit check post is at samase which is just 11km before kalasa).
When you come from Mangalore side, a T-junction ahead entering kalasa town. Just towards left there is a small hotel called "UDAYACHANDRA" non veg hotel run by a Muslim owner. Had a good chicken biriyani and chicken sukka for dinner.one of the best tasting biriyani in that town I must say.(that rice aroma is something different which is Muslim's briyaani trademark.) While having food I just searched near by places in G map.
Going through some reviews, a place (view point)called maidadi view point attracted me. Thought of checking our luck, we started ride towards maidadi view point. It's falls inside some interior (comparatively) tea plantation and for our bad luck there was no network. I lost somewhere and stopped. After re starting the app, G map started working fine again(I downloaded that area map for safer side for offline usage) but map was re routing us to kanive view point. Finally I gave up and followed the map. Ended up in front of kanive resort. The view point was half mile away but the approach near the resort was horrible so that bike couldn't make it to other side. Mean while resort owner(may be) came and asked about us. I told- we want to pitch our tent at view point. He told - not possible sir, there is already some local boys crowd is there and also today police night beat will be there .So better u guys look up somewhere else.
I just murmured myself "I don't know where to go". he discussed with his helper boy and told me that- there is another view point available which is also accessible by road. Just go back to main road , take right, ride 3kms,once u located the big dust bin on the right side ,there is a mud road goes next to it. Follow that. he told.
I appreciated his concern towards us and thanked him and rode back to main road and followed his instructions. Found the dust bin as he said so stopped the bike at left side. there was no road next to it. Again I rode back till diversion but there was no dust bin if I missed any.
Cursing my decision riding at night I came back to dust bin point to double check it. Result was same. There was NO ROAD...!!!.

Re: Unplanned was the PLAN!!! For year end ride 2019

            Continued....
            11.00pm.
It was pitch dark except bike pilot lamps and there was no sign of any houses near by us to make us feel safe. Network gone again. I started the bike and rode in main road for few kms. There was some home stays filled with guests and they were partying hard. One gang which is near to road shown us a thumbs up and we replied with the same. After 1km I stopped at a bus stop kinda shelter which had street light next to it. Checked network and it was showing 4G again.
Now I loaded terrain mode in G map and tried to locate myself and the place which I wanted to visit. It was maidadi view point again and this time I kept map in terrain mode and rode back to nearest diversion showing in the map. FINALLY we got the diversion according to map which was not sure. Parked the bike at road side and went for a walk for 100 meters to check the trail condition. It was a off road Jeep trail filled with grass..
Both of us decided try it for once. this time I didn't selected the location on map instead just used it as reference and took the diversions by own as per to the satellite image. The more inside we entered the coffee plantation (suppose to be) the tougher the trail was. There was situations like inclination of 60° with sharp right and left turns which demanded 3 point turn(dominar's turning radius is more compared to other bikes).
After hard 30mins roller coaster ride, map was showing that, we are very near to the view point. Again stopped the bike, parked aside. Now i tried to get directions by map by walk, sadly no results. Decided to call it a day.
Engaged main stand, hand lock done, helmets secured with locks, pitched the tent, foam was utilised once again as a comfy bed, mean while valuable things kept inside the tent. Temp was showing 19℃ in kalasa as per AccuWeather.(may be 1℃ further less in our place of stay). Suddenly Fire crackers lit up in the sky from near by town(UJIRE- my hometown which is 20km away in aerial distance, 100km away by road) we came out from tent and enjoyed it as much available for our eyes.
Wished each other new year and fortunately network was in full swing and got call from friends and relatives. Finally we went to sleep. Within no time wife was in deep sleep but me not feeling sleepy thinking and checking for any Wilde animal sound etc.once the crackers ended it was silence again, people shouting happy new year somewhere far also subsidised slowly.
After 10mins when I was almost getting asleep, I heard someone is talking very close to us...!!! I jumped from sleep and came out from tent with a iron rod(I keep it always in tent pack for safer side).I didn't noticed anybody surrounding my tent. Sat on near by stone and kept observing, again the talk's are very audible and it was in tulu language. Again i roamed around tent and voilà I could see a light from small house very down there. So felt safe and happily went to sleep again..

It was 2020 jan 1st 5.30am in the morning and I was in deep sleep but suddenly got awake to the ENGINE SOUND and the BRIGHT LIGHT piercing through the tent. now heart started pounding fast.. who is outside??? Is it cop??.. Na they can't come this much far.
Is it the plantation owner came form night party. ?? Why the hell his vehicle headlights are one LED and one HALOGEN by the way..???!!! where to go now..???

Thank you sagar. The route and place which I took was completely safe for couple riding(except wild animals if any). Most of the times I plan the ride ending it before 7-8pm at the end of the day. However this time due to some delay, ride took so long inThe mid night, still it was good night out ride we can cherish as.

                      Continued..
For few seconds..I just concentrated on the engine sound to guess the vehicle, it was like agricultural tiller sound once, then again some Jeep like sound. Finally decided to face it, WHATEVER it is and came out of the tent.
For a moment, I stunned to see 2 bikes standing in front of me. EXPULSE & NS 200 it was. Now the guys switched of their engines, I just noticed Mangalore registration No's by the help of those pilot lamps.
One guy asked me that-if u give us path to cross the road by moving your tent.
I said- wait a min.. and wakeup my wife and told her about the situation (she was in half sleep)she came out from the tent and stood beside me blankly, seeing the strangers. I said her to help me to move the tent and she was not responding.. mean while a guy came to help and tent was shifted to make way for the riders.
Mean time I was scratching my head(virtually) thinking how the hell they made till here...? As my eyes scanned the bike,I found Google map satellite mode was lodged in NS200.
I asked them-where u guys heading to and how so early u people came???.
One of them replied-we celebrated new year in Mangalore and left at 12.30am and this is our celebration night out come trail ride come expedition ride. Told laughing. How did u managed the diversions ???, I asked them again.
They looked their faces each other and smilingly told-long story bro. We misguided by map and after so many attempts this guy took us here , don't know how he did, showing the NS guy.
I wished them happy new year and let them to move on on their trails.good skilled champs I must say.
It was 5.50am when this all happened. Only 1hr left to sunrise so thought of waking up the wife again(when tent was moved, within a sec.she was sleeping inside the tent by the way [emoji23][emoji23]). succeded at 6.30pm.
Took essential items in tank bag and started our trkeking which is suppose to be only100m by walk. Yes only 100m without trail at the edge of the CLIFF....!!!! very STEEP..!!!

ID:	1969622We could hear the water falls sound near by (kadamegundi falls) which we visited earlier in 2019 Nov by trekking from my native(5 km trek included 3 km off road). How about a refreshing cup of tea at this point?? Awesome right. Made tea using the needed ingredients we brought(thanks to good life milk tetra pack for 10₹). It was nothing less than heaven for us. Cookies tried their best to keep us away from hungry. I gazed around while sipping the tea. Found a proper trail which was the actual trekking route. Keeping that in mind for next time ,we left the place with our foot prints, took the plastics with us.

ID:	1969625It was 8.30am, Came back to camping area, while folding the tent, night riders came back. I asked how was the stay.?? Not great, still managed to get few hours good sleep-they replied and went.
We packed all the stuffs confirming nothing left behind and started our return journey. Again roller coaster ride started, enjoying that, reached to main road. On the way we spotted so many houses which we didn't noticed at night. After riding few kms, we spotted the same dust bin and there was a "R O A D...!!!" very CLOSE to it, going suddenly down.we SHOCKED..!! to see that.

Unless someone walks to the dust bin and checks, it's hard to find, if coming from kanive resort main road, which happened to us previous day.
Happily rode the bike in that route and in 5mins bike was standing in front of the mighty mountains at the view point.Click image for larger version

ID:	1969631 But the approach I mentioned was really tough and noway it was possible to ride back in that portion. Satellite mode helped us again, showed us a route which pass through kanive resort( We trespassed without permission).
Now it's time for heading back to home and when we reached samse, I saw the board mentioned direction to 'yelaniru falls', took the diversion and stopped in front of a small canteen to have tea. Owner was eager to know about our ride and after quick conversation, he suggested us to continue with the falls route which is off road going to connect 'didupe' town. It is local short cut route which connects didupe and samse region cutting down travel time to 30mins instead of 2.6hrs. however this route remains closed in rainy season.only Jeep and two Wheeler's ply's in between the two cities on that off road. off road lovers should travel once to experience the thick forest range, water crossings.
We reached falls bottom by 10 mins hiking.Click image for larger version
