Hey Mik. What a text! Loved the way you recounted your feelings and the dilemma that you faced, the dichotomy between bravery and foolhardiness, it takes a lot of doing to admit it... It is not always easy to do it.

It is damn tough and dangerous to ride with two wheels on black ice! Do not try it unless you are equipped to fall. Because fall you will!

Add to the list of DL and PB number plates that do not give way... another state ... HR that do not give way not matter what.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Yes, as i was descending down on the Swift, my biker ego was dented. I believe i could have made it solo, but choices had to be made, and they had to be safe and sane
Was my first experience with snow and black ice. Raring for another go at it again..

Have a new found respect for these mountain passes. Its not really about "doing" rohtang. Its about experiencing it and learning from it.

                    @ Mik :-

Great Ride , superb pictures and a very down to earth and realistic trip log...Bravo...

Except that unfortunate bit...hope that doesnt dent / dampen any spirits...everything was fine...

I must admit, Rohtang isnt as as easily do able as we presume it to be.

How i wish lesser mortals like us get a chance to do all this too

P.S.: The snow covered mountians look like Shangri La types...

After going through ur complete log, i am SPEECHLESS...

It was like a movie consisting of some humour, thrill, adventure and so on...

And awesome pics, I downloaded a few of them for wallpapers...

The log was very nice & brought out the real feel, well almost !! Rohtang is top on my to do list these days; Let's see !!
Well said about the thin line between being brave and fool; I guess you did the right thing. The bike v/s car will always continue for mortals like us but when alone..... nothing beats the whizz on 2 wheels.

My relatives (in HP) told me this once. The reason they gave was since most of the HP registered veh. will be driven by locals they understand hill driving much more than those from the plains and hence respect the other vehicles/drivers and give way.You would also see them backing up to give way to uphill vehicles. DL/PB/UA/UP are a different story altogether , and HR , they are in a different league

Pic in post 48 is absolutely brilliant !

I thought so. The pic was good, so put it in 1024 resolution

Though the HR registered vehicles are also like that, but the Swift guy was from Haryana, so have nothing against them as of now
