Trip Outline:
Day 1: Meerut -> Rishikesh + 26 kms (Rafting camp beside the Ganga)
Day 2: Camp -> Rishikesh -> Camp
Day 3: Camp
Day 4: Camp
Day 5: Camp -> Meerut
Total distance covered was over 700 kms.
Why I call it a sequel to my first 700 KM trip is because, once we guys had reached dhanolti, we were planning to go to chamba -> rishikesh and finally back to dheradun from there. but we ended up catching a road, which was compltely deserted. not on a map. and finally the road ended and we were riding on dirt tracks ...
Anyways, distance from my house to the camp was 187 kms. Distance of Uttarkashi from Rishikesh is 150 kms.
I was interested in doing a Basic Mountaineering course at NIM (www.nimindia.com) but since the seats had already been booked before, I thought it would be better if I went to NIM and meet the office staff personally to see whether there had been any last minute cancellations. Will only find out on the 15th now, via telephone. If I do get a seat, I will have to do this same trip again.
There was nothing out of the oridinary about the ride to rishikesh. rishikesh is only at a height of about 400 odd metres. it took roughly 3 hrs and 20 mins to do this trip.
the ride to uttarkashi wasn't to great either. the only interesting bit was riding along side the bhagirathi after crossing chamba. the constuction site for the tehri dam can also be seen. all in all, rode around 11 hours that day.
while coming back today, i got caught in the rain for a bit. it started raning just as soon as i crossed rishikesh and continued so for a decently long time. and i was completely drenched. i have been pretty unlucky with rain and bike riding. got caught in rain on the 900 KM trip. got caught in the rain while riding back from rohtang to manali on day 16 of the 3333 KM trip. and then again rode for 8-9 hours in the rain on day 17 of the same trip. but bad weathers a part of riding ... all you can do is to get yourself good gear.
anyways, I took no pictures on this trip. camera was left at home. but i have some pictures from last weeks trip to rishikesh which i shall upload soon. as soon as i sign up with photobucket.com
the ladakh trip has changed my perspectives a lot. i don't appreciate the beauty of so called 'normal' hills now. they seem so boring. all my previous trips to pale in comparison to the experience i had in ladakh. the only trip i am interested in doing is a trip of himachal pradesh. i have been to a lot of places. kalimpong, darjeeling, naini tal (all the lakes), pithoragarh, jhoolaghta, almora, ranikhet, shimla, manali, mussorie, dhanolti etc etc etc. but nothing compares to ladakh.
ok i'm getting carried away now. time to sign off!
