    The Shankarpur Trip(near Digha)

Shankarpur.....the lonely sea beach in West Bengal. Only 6-7 hotels are there. One can see the Fishing Troller, Fishermen, Red crabs and also the Jhau forest over there. The place is only for peace loving peoples. From Kolkata to Sankarpur d distance is not more than 170kms and in my Bike(Discover125, make oct'04) it will take 5Hrs from my home in Sonarpur(220KMS, from Sankarpur)

My first visit to Sankarpur is in Dec05. after that I've gone there 5 times. 3 times same day back and 2 times spent 2-3 nights over there. Last visit is in Nov'08. Simply I love that place very much. From sankarpur, Digha is not more than 20KMS. But Digha is too congested.

From my home I use to start at 5 O' clock, take my first stop at Kolaghat on NH5. From there the road is devided from NH5. Usually reached Sankarpur at 10

Not really a trip log but approving it nonetheless since this can serve as a reference for people in and around Calcutta wanting to do a beach jaunt.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

                  Oh sure....here it goes

My last visit to Sankarpur was in the last winter. The 23rd December'2008. Just being bored with d regular work, I needed a break at that time, and I got it just for a Single hole day, where should I go? bcause I have to back within the evening same day. The answer is easy...Sankarpur.

Its not too much cold in Kolkata in the last of December, although I was wearing a jacket and a pair of hand gloves for winter protection, Starts at 5 sharp in d morning. Said good buy to mom. Then hit d road. Reached Vidhyasagar setu within half an hour(26kms from my home). Toll paid. Took Kona Expressway which is leading to NH6 and NH2. After entering NH6 its time to boost the accelerator. Kept in mind that the bike is Disco125, the max speed I reached is 105kmph and I was in Kolaghat within 7:30am.

Have breakfast with Kachouri and Jalebi with Elaichi tea. Awesome food. Everything was running smooth. After 30minutes I was in NH6 again. From kolaghat the road to Haldia is divided from NH6. and the Xing is called Haldia Junction. The road was in under construction for many years. The plan is to turned it into 4lane but the work doesn't complete even after 5 years. There are too many diversions. So the average speed goes down. This stretch is for 20-25kms. After that a place called Nandakumar came. Turned Right, straight road goes to Haldia. From there I manage to accelerate as fast as I can. The view was awesome. Greenery both side of d road. Rice factory's are common here. Reached Kanthi or Kontai within 9:45am. without stopping there I was riding at a good pace. After Kontai there are many Fishery's both side of the road. Finally reached Sankarpur at 11am. park the bike at a Tea stall and go for exploring the sea. No one there except some local people, who are Fishermen. Winter sun..clear sky..vast sea...its like heaven...most important no one is watching u. So refreshing. There was a river also, called Champa. A big wholesale fish market is situated in Sankarpur, but that was in too far from the beach. Digha is not more than 18kms from there.

after some beach walk, I felt hungry, so entered into Hotel Sandy Bay. There are 6-7 hotels only. In my previous trips I realised that d night in Sankarpur are more beautiful than in day. Eat fish curry and rice. good cooking.

Some more walking in the Jhaou Forest, the clock showed 3pm. Its time to good buy. Same route for returning. reached home within 8 pm without any mishap.
