    [u]Trip to God's Land</u>

    Day 1 - 14 Sep'04

    Delhi - 26400kms @ 0500Hrs.
Driving through to Ambala. Then took a road for pipli. Took my breakfast in Narayangarh. Carrying on to Nahan passing through Kalamb. At Kalamb lost my maps. From Nahan drive to Rajgarh - toughest one. I almost crashed into a ditch but was a lucky escape. Reached to Baru Sahib - paid my visit to Gurudwara. Reached Rajagrh - and roads from Rajgarh toward Theog. But had to end up my day at a small village Lakhoti( Not on maps). Got a chance to spend my night in a locals home.
    Lakhoti - 26805kms at 6:55Pm
Total Distance for day - 405kms in 14Hrs.

    Day 2 : 15th Sep'04

Starting my day at Lakhoti driving with the person whom I stayed with as my pillion to Theog. Weather changed drastically with fog and zero visibility conditions. Dropped Pradeep at Theog and had to change my plan so picked up road to Rampur via Narkanda with drive in rain for almost 2 hrs. Reached Sainj sun opened up and got a chance to see sunshine at 5 in evening. Reached Rampur and then touched Jeori with complete Black cover. Drove to Sarahan in Night as it is a single road and got a place to stay in Sarahan Old Temple.
    Lakhoti : 26805Km
    Sarahan : 27007km

Total Distance for day - 202kms in 10Hrs.

    Day 3 : 16th Sep'04

At Sarahan, took a quick look at places around including the Birds Sanctuary. Left Sarahan at 1105Hrs to drive down to Jeori again as rain still was there to give me so company. Driving through beautiful cut mountains. Reached Karchamm. While taking some pictures bike fell sown on side stand and clutch lever broke into 2 pieces. Drove with the broken clutch lever to powari and cannot find a new clutch so have to drive with the present one only. Kept on driving through AKPA and then Puh where view turns arid and greenery all vanishes away. Strong winds and got down with Hi-Alti. After Khab roads are hynotical and no road signs. Took a wrong road and had to come back to go to Nako lake. It was dark once again and no vehicles were seen in last 2 hours of drive. Touched Nako at 8 Pm. Found a room at small restaurant.

    Sarahan : 27007kms
    Nako : 27188kms
    Total Distance for day - 181kms/0746Hrs .

    Day 4 : 17th Sep'04

Had a tough time sleeping under Hi-Alti. Got up and walked uphill to take few shots of Nako Lake. Beauty at its best. Came back and started my drive once again - Got down to the link road and then Yang thang. Drove upto Maaling Nala - and no road from here on. So had to cross my bike on Rope. Paid him 500Rs and I have to take downhill by foot and uphill in 2hrs 25 minutes as compared to 7 minutes of my bike. Then back to link road and met some foreigners. Reached Tabo after a extreme tiring day. Tabo was wonderful place, quite and peaceful with a monastery. very nice people around this place.

    Nako : 27188kms
    Tabo : 27252kms
Total Distance for day - 64kms/3 Hrs.

    Day 5 : 18th Sep'04

Started my day with checking out the monastery and most beautiful painitngs inside the monastery. Got back to Monastery and met a person from Austria who was here on his Merc Van. He was doing some research totally amazed to see his work. And again started driving to Sichling. Then took the dividing road to Dhankar monastery. Road was good but it was amazing how it was build on that dry strech. Downhill from Dhankar monastery took a road which is only used by a tractor during summers. Was tough driving on boulders. Drive down to Kaza was rough experience all dirt roads. Reached to a divide on road to Kibber (Asia's First highest road connected village). But I did not had much time on hands to go to Kibber so took my actual road. Drive to Kunzum Jot was one slow drive with no help from weather. It kept on getting cold and darkness was around the edge. Reached Kunzumjot and paid my due patronage to Mata Ji temple. On my way down saw a board of Chandra Taal but was almost impossible road. So kep driving down as it was Dark and my guts were shimmering with cold winds. Reached Baatal. And still kept driving while got my balls to realise the toughest weather ever. Roads were no were near to roads but driving on those round boulders, as it was all dark and river next to it made me remember god all the way. Drove on that unterrained roads for 1.5Hrs in darkness covering 16kms.
Lucky that I survived to give you the journey brief.

    Tabo : 27252kms
    Chotta Drara : 27416kms

    Day 6 : 19th Sep'04

Started my day with strong warm sun on my side today. Chhota Drara is where one can see Indarasan and both the Shigri glaciers. Left Chohta Drara and roads were still the same till Chahtru. And then Road till Gramphu was most scenic ones with waterfalls and Chandra river down following you. Reached Rohtang pass and was welcomed by army cyclists group. Got a chance to ride a bicylce for 2 kms. SO beautiful and then road from Rohtang to Manali was an easier one with lot of traffic. I picked a different road from Manali to go to Kullu via Naggar. Reached Kullu and then kept driving to Bhuntar where I decided to drive upto "ManiKaran" (My name was kept from this place). Reached ManiKaran and got a room in ManiKaran to stay.

    Mani Karan : 27607kms
    Total Distance for day - 191kms@ 7:30Hrs..

    Day 7 : 20th Sep'04

Spent All my day resting myself and took hot water bath in hot kunds on ManiKaran. Amazing to see wonderful scenery. Drove upto Pulga - last village after Manikaran and met some wonderful people. And while coming back with a localite on my back, I was stopped by some cops and he checked me completely and found nothing but found my pillion with Charas and slapped him quite hard and let me go. I felt bad about whole incidence. Back in ManiKaran spent time with BabaJi and got to talk about all the wonderful experiences. ManiKaran has a small wonderful market to take some brisks walk.

    ManiKaran : 27607
    Pulga : 27621
    ManiKaran : 27634
Total Distance for day - 27kms..

    Day 8 : 21st Sep'04

Left Maikaran late at 12'noon. Drive back from ManiKaran was good and now from here on roads get back to world class highways after Bhuntar. I did three figure run for the first time in hills and still had a broken clutch lever. So down the road saw the first and only official service station of Himachal in Mandi. Guys were quite busy so replaced my clutch quickly and kept rolling. It was hot and humid day. Touched Pinjore via Nalagarh road at approx 5:30 in evenings and darkness was to cover all the sky. I still had 300 kms to cover so I drove hard after Baggi Chownk. And now while driving in dark took 110 and 115 to cover my distance in good time.
My dial reads 28176km with whole 9 hours and 3 minutes of driving with 538kms covered at an average speed of 59.572kms/hr.
This was one of the most tiring, high on adrenalin, tough on experience learning curve in my life. I want to thank god for all that he has given to me.

lovemax, this is a fantastic trip man. simply awesome. the terrain has a different feel to it. similar to ladakh, but unique in it's own way.

i envy you man. i may not be able to do this trip for many years to come.

this trip seems tougher than ladakh. hope to do it one day and return in one piece!

ahhhhhhh... u know lovemax , wen i go thru such an article on a bike trip specially to the hills, it jus takes my mind to some other orbit..ohh - the joy of motorcyclin in himalayas..i wish i cud leave right now..

            some questions :
-u took the road from ambala to theog via rajgarh.how is the road wrt the kalka-shimla route? is it worth it

-also for the malling nallah thing , i was goin thru two rides by 60kph guys (60kph.com). dey did the route this yr.one in march n d other in apr i guess. but in their write-up,dey didnt hv to tk the rope for the bike.dey jus did it on the bike.althought dey did mention dat there was lot of mud and slush..,i think coz of the monsoons, the road must hv become very bad n so u had to put d bike on the rope. correct me if i am wrong

-also in my map,the road to pulga is shown as a dirt road..is it so? how is pulga? the views? no roads/dirt roads after that?

                      @ Bunny :
                      - Road from kalka wrt to what I did was a big different one. Here are no metalled roads. One here took me 3 hours to do 45 kms so u can have an idea about it. Check the pics for yourself.

                      - And about second thing Bunny : I dont kno why they did not mention about the rope crossing. But there is no road to cross Maaling nala and your bike is completely on mercy of ropes and I was told prior to crossing no gurantee for scratches or even if bike falls down. see pics 308 to 324.
Got a big dent and lost a plastic piece of side cown below Super sprint plastic cowl.

                      - And about Pulga - Roads are quite good to drive upto pulga and ahead that there are no roads. You can reach there early in morning and can do a trek upto kheer ganga and can come back by evening.

& about my alloy wheel - there was a crack along with the deframing of it. see pic 488. You can see the deframing\defiguring of front alloy.
