4 Bikes, 7 Riders, 1500 Km's of road, dust & Nature..Man & Machine united, culminating in the ride of a lifetime. It was my first ever bike trip and to say that it was exhilarating would be an understatement. I intend to give details of our trip, which will be helpful to enthusiasts looking forward to their next one. The route covered was :
Bangalore - Munnar - Cochin - Palghat - Coimbatore - Ooty - Mysore - Bangalore.
Steeds Used : 1 Pulsar 150 & 3 Honda Unicorns (Racing Editions)
Day-1 : Bangalore to Dindigul
Took Nh-7 route till a place called Dindigul, about 370 Km's from Bangalore. The highway is simply superb and offers maximum potential as far as ripping the bikes is concerned. Night stay at Dindigul, accomodation options are good..Check out Rockfort Palace. Good stay at affordable prices.
Day-2 : Dindigul to Munnar
Took off from Dindigul early in the morning on NH-209 towards Munnar. Distance to Munnar from Dindigul is about 170 Km's. The entire highway is single lane, but free of traffic which ensures quick travel times. First stop is at Udumalpet, about 90 Km's from Dindigul and from here we took the forest route which passes through the Annamalai Tiger reserve. Expect thorough police checking before entering the reserve. The route leads to Munnar through mountain passes and magnificient views of the mountains. Distance to Munnar from Udumalpet is about 80 to 90 Km's. Night stay at Munnar..A very beautiful hill station that has several sights to visit. Night stay at Munnar
Day-3 : Munnar to Cochin
Took NH-49 from Munnar to Cochin. This stretch is quite rough till the descent from the mountains to gorund level and gets worse as it passes through the lands of Kerala. Although the road is quite smooth, the entire highway passes through the small kerala towns & villages which never come to an end and as a result, there is heavy traffic. The entire highway is also single lane which severely constraints travelling times. Distance from Munnar to Cochin is about 160 Km's which took us an entire day to cover owing to traffic and slow speeds. Night stay at Cochin. Nothing interesting to see in Cochin, the beach is filthy and the roads/Traffic is bad.
Day 4 : Cochin - Coimbatore - Ooty
Took NH-47 from Cochin to Coimbatore and the condition of the highway was the same as long as we were in Kerala. It became a heaven to drive as soon as we entered into TamilNadu and ensure we quickly covered the remaining distance towards Coimbatore leaving us plenty of time to spare to decide our next destination. Distance from Cochin to Coimbatore is about 200 Km's and passes through Palghat..one of the good places that can be visited in Kerala. We decided to go to ooty from Coimbatore. The distance was only about 70 Km's and we had plenty of time in which to cover this distance. Drive till Ooty was good and we found ourselves again on mountain roads, about 40 Km's away from ooty. The entire 40 km upward stretch of road was dotted with traffic, with buses and trucks slowing down progress. overtaking these monsters on a narrow mountain road required skill and was no easy work. In addition, this is one stretch that has 14 hairpin bends and one weakened bridge. The stretch is amazingly picteresque and a delight to drive in. The temprature fell very quickly as we neared ooty..expect really low temparatures and thin air that affect a bike's performance. Accelaration was slightly compromised. Night stay at Ooty..One of the most beautiful hill stations down south.
Day-5 : Ooty - Mysore - Bangalore
Took NH-67 from Ooty to a place called gundlupet and then NH-212 towards Mysore. Passed through the jungles of Madumalai tiger reserve and bandhipur on the way to mysore. The road is good for driving apart from a small stretch of road after Bandhipur that is really in a very bad condition. The drive from Mysore to Bangalore is pure pleasure as the highway is very good and is four laned right uptil Bidadi, which is 22 Km's to Bangalore. Distance covered from Ooty to Bangalore was about 330 Km and it was dark by the time we reached Bangalore.
Thanks.
