    Mind u we did'nt get tonsured

    Well i have posted this before the sever crash. Thought i'd repost it again.

    This was mine and ravikiran's firstever real long ride. But we both have done some small one of abt 300kms a day but this was totally diff to us.



    29th mar D-day



    "Satish, Satish elundhiri....paru neyram aieduchi"(satish,satish wake up,Its almost time)told my mom waking me up....i somehow struggled to wake up and look at the time and it was 2.30am on 29th mar! I was like F#$k! am late. Got ready as soon as possible and called Cravikiran at 2.50am and informed him i'll be late by a good 30mins and he was shocked, coz he woke me up at 1.30am(i slept again).I put on my Jacket, shoes and gloves and took my backpack and helmet and went down to my bike(mind u...i had bath and brushed my teeth too).There she was standing ready to take the thrashing for the next 2days.I had recently got her repaired as she had a big accident. A lorry hit my friend when he was returning from collage at 2.30am. It was sevre one. He was unconsious for 20min in middle of that road.Now he is perfectly alright.

    I quickly started the bike warmed her up and reset the trip meter to zero and took pics of the odometer

    Odometer - 3639 Kms + another 3k kms My speedo was changed at 3k kms along with the engine block. SO in total it had done 6639kms (for once i was ahead of ravikiran)






    Started off to ravi's place after bidding goodbye to my dad and mom! As i set off from home and on to the main road i started to think how did all this happen? How did i get into biking when i am in a middle class family and when my dad stays very far from here(he is in chennai) and works all day just to bring us up....all this thoughts made me emotional and i was just recollecting how did this happen...........here it goes!



    It was always been my dream, passion to tour ever since i learn to ride a bike(when i was in my 7th grade),but i had to wait till i got my license and since i was a student i could'nt save up enough money for touring on top of it, i had only splendor. But even with that i have been to medak along with surya once and exploring all the nooks and cornors of hyderabad every sunday! But that did'nt satisfy my desire for touring......my 1st stint with touring was when myself, surya my bro and a friend rode to nagarjuna sagar on a P150ug2 and a ct100 back in 2004,that satisfied me till an extent. But i wanted to go more but could'nt.......simple reason no bike no money and no job as well.I was waiting to get a job and buy myself a bike. All my wishes were fullfilled as soon as i got a job. Bought my babe on 4 dec 07 but could'nt go for longrides very soon......i was plaughed with hell lots of problem with my bike......i even had to change almost the entire engine under warrenty plus i was'nt able to get leaves from my office as they were short of staffs......which means a major hurdle to my dream.



    I was soo pissed......earlier no money and bike when i had all the time in this world and now when i have them there is no time.....i was really pissed off by the very thought of it.



    Then i had some difference in my office,for which i resigned......i was in notice period for a month......so now i can do wat i wanted:d......hehehehe.....But i wanted to take a break of 1 month in apr.During which i planned to hit the roads! Started planing as to which would be my destination....surfed thru XBHP to find more details and i stopped the movement Kriss posted abt the Tirpathi trip, i was in! and prepared everything for it and later got pissed only to realise that the ride was supposed to be done in may. Was heart broken a bit.



    I was walking to office on 27th night when i got a call from ravikiran asking me if i could join him for a ride to tirupathi on 29th and 30th....i was excited and told him i would have to get permission from my parents. Called up my mom and asked her for the permission and to my surprise she was ok with it as long as i going only in a bike and not a car but it would be the other way for my dad. So i asked my mom to let my dad know that i'll be going to warangal with my friend on a car and would return after 2 days i called up ravikiran and confirmed that i would be coming for the trip and in excitment i forgot that we would have to leave on saturday early morning and would have to bunk office that night too .....but who care am resigning any way.Went back home in the morning slept for 3 hours and woke up to get everything ready for the ride.I called up ravi and he was in service centre preparing his babe. Met him and discussed abt the ride and gave him surya's gloves as he wanted to try it out for the ride and he also picked up Sumit's alpinster gloves.

    we left probiking at 1pm...he went to office while i go to TVS SVC to prepare my bike. Wanted to change only the rear tube and fix the vibrating foot pegs and return home and catch some sleep but everything went haywire as the guy who replaces the tube went for namaaz and returned only at 6pm everyone one in the SVC were surprised on hearing the am riding to tirpathi that too on RTR. from there on i was refered to as the tirupathi guy went home at 7pm and on the way filled up the tank with speed petrol and added some additives(IFTEX) as recommended by the SVC ppl.But my bike started give me some trouble with the gears getting stuck very frequently! By the time i reached home my mom told abt my trip to my dad and he was ok with it. He was very much concerned first but later he understood abt my passion for touring. Went to office at 7.30pm but could'nt do any work(as if there was).Spoke to ravi on the phone and we decided to start at 3am. But friday was a full working day which means i can only leave office at 4am.

    But since my bro was my Team lead, i left early at 11pm after having dinner with my bro's at 10pm(which means i never was in office:P) I tried to sleep but could'nt finally managed to sleep at 12.30 but got a wake up call from ravi at 1.30am. i woke up spoke to him and confirmed that i'll be meeting him near his residence and slept again!only to be waken up by my mom.



    There it was a short flash back Think of all this i forgot to change my helmets visor to a plain one and i was 12kms from my home now.I had my spects with me so i thought i could manage.Stopped at the ATM withdrew some money went to my office to handover the credit cards to my bro. Here my RTR started giving some wierd trouble....the bike did'nt get supply from the battery and the igintion was off even though i had swtiched it on.Thought this was the end of the ride for me

          First the gears wear getting stuck and now this....i wondered if i had to cancel the ride.Struggled with the igniton to swtich it on for abt 10mins before it was working. But wat if this happens in the middle of nowhere??. Hmmmmm.....lets face it when it come so i took the chance and off i go to intercept ravikiran at his rescidence who probably is pissed off waiting for me. Curised slowly at 60kmph.....could'nt ride fast with the isor open


          I reached madhapur and i was close to Hitec city. I could not find his home. Ravi called me up as he saw me zipping past him.I was a Km away from him.

          The first thing he asked abt was the visor. Promised him that i could manage with the spects as we would be riding at only 70kmph till the daylight sets in!(little did i know abt ravi's night riding habit).My spects were greasy and no matter how hard i tried to clean it, it was the same but ravi comes to my rescue. He cleaned it without a single mark guess experience matters in cleaning too. Without wasting much time we start off after clicking some pics!

          Started of at 3.50am rode towards NH-7(i guess) and i realised that ravi is'nt going to maintain anything less than 85kmph in this complete darkness. Was able to stay close to him within the city but as soon as we hit the highway towards the airport i could only see his taillamp dissappearing. Imagine a fourlane highway fullylite with no traffic for 7-10kms i touched 126kmph and i guess ravi must have touched 125kmph atleast! Road was supersmooth only till the airport after that it was a 2lane with lot of potholes for about 5kms and then it was 4lane again.smooth for couple of kms before one side of the road was closed for 4/6 laneing. 50% of the time we had to ride on the wrong side of the road!


          Had a tough time tailing ravi as he was constantly riding at 90kmph and ocassional 100kmph.He was used to night riding with his visor open at highspeeds.But if i ride at anything more than 50kmph i get water from my eyes and my spects was as good as not being there in the 1st place. Thanks to some trucks he slowed down at many places and at times i was riding blindly. Then came our 1st pit stop after about 91kms from ravi's place. This stop was mainly to clean our visor's and glasses.

          Started off and the same story again for a while....ravi ripping satish struggling to keep up. Fortuantly the traffic eased up and the day light started to creep up while we stopped thrice for cleaning our spects and visors. Once the day light was completely in it was time for me to match ravikiran. Kept up with him all the time while doing 110kmph+ on my speedo. then ravi asked me to lead. Usually when i ride alone i maintain my comfortable speed of 90-105kmph which might be 85-95kmph on his speedo. He lost his patiance after a while and started leading again. He kept losing me in his RVM so he asked me to swtich on the headlights after that we switched of our headlights only after reaching Tirupathi.Was funny to see ppl signaling us to swtich off our headlights.



          Went through lot of different secnery's. One which i liked the most was going thru a 1 1/2 lane bridge on a river. Liked it..dont know why! Then came a section where there was lot of slush on one side of the road,ravi made thru but thanks to a lorry i had to do some offroading after which my bike was dancing on the tarmac for the next 2-3kms. Finally managed to reach kurnool by 7.30am

          We were confused abt the route from there.Spoke to some truck drivers they guided us but were shocked when we said we are going to tirupathi from hyderabad on bikes. meanwhile mine and Ravi's mobile had a few missed calls from praveen and a message from him.Called him up and updated our status,they were near to tirpathi on train. Had some water and started from kurnool. I swtiched my gloves(just a normal leather gloves) with sumit's alpinster gloves. They were comfortable initally but started to pain after some 20kms.swtiched to my gloves again.this was the same reason why ravi was using his custom made P220 hand grips

          He was pretty mad at me for riding a bit slower and asked me to rip as we are supposed to reach tirupathi by 3pm. Fun started from here on. Just after 15kms from kurnool we were greeted by small section of ghats, road was'nt that gr8 but the secerny around made up for that. It was the best piece of road we rode on till then. We were doing 100-110kmph all the time. Finally we stopped for Breakfast at 9.15am. Had a packet of goodday biscuts and some appy juice and spent abt 30-40mins chitchatting.

          After this if ravi was leading. Speeds were 110kmph and if i was leading then it was 95-105kmph.Nothing much happened except for us sitting on our bike and keeping the throttle open. At a particular strech the road just vanished and all we could see was white smoke/dust and could'nt see more than 20ft ahead for the next 3kms.They were relaying the roads.



          Searched for a Speed petrol all the way as ravi was running very low on petrol but could'nt find it.We search desperatly for it even after reachin cuddapha and all we found was reliance.But did'nt want to fill reliance. When enquired abt BP bunks he said it would there in the next 10kms.We took the chance but to our bad luck they had only stocked diesel and not petrol. Without any choice he decided to fill up extra premium for 300rs(5.5ltrs approx) and i filled up only for 100rs as my bike was still in main!

          Started from there in 15mins after a quick call to my parents.Roads were awesome from here on. 4 lane super smooth road with no traffic and with small winding turns.....i knew that ravi would like to enjoy this strech to the max...so asked him to go ahead and not to wait for me.....this was it he ripped insanly. After sometime i totally lost his site,i doubted if he was behind me and asked a few passers by if they have seen a Blue bike and all the said was yes it went very fast.....i knew i wont be catching up with him anytime soon. I tried ripping my bike to the max but it was topping out at 120kmph and did'nt even go 1kmph more and was'nt able to hold on to speeds after 110kmph.(i doubt the IFTEX for this problem). At one point i stopped and called up ravi asking where he was he said he was some 20kms ahead of me. So i took it easliy and was riding at 95-100kmph.....gave a school boy(may be 10th grade) a lift.He asked abt me where i was coming from and my proffession.He was looking for some guidance...had a nice conversation with him for abt 30kms.This chap had lot of ambitions in him



          My bike fell reserve after 60kms from cudappha(got a mileage of approx 28kmpl) filled up a litre again and got 32kmpl...blame my ripping.I was stopped by Ravikiran some 20kms before tirupathi.he told me he was waiting for me since 20mins.He constanlty rode at 125kmph. By the time i came there his bike attracted lot of crowd.I was told by kriss that there was only 1 P220 in tirupathi.Called up praveen and took the direction to the hotel/our meeting point.

                      I forgot to mention abt our bikes performance!



                      Ravi's 220 sounded and performed the same it was when we started.He was runing on Motul 300V FL. No performance loss or overheating or any problem with his bike all the way.


                      My RTR had lots of problem since the time i bought it. But she was in her best shape during the trip. The tappet noise kept increasing while she munched on KM after KM.At certain time she refused to go beyond 120kmph and i could see the Rpm stuck at 9k(-or+.2k) no matter how long i kept the throttle wide open. But came back to normal after some rest and she returned some wierd mileage figures(but who cares).



                      Now coming back to the ride.



                      As soon as we reached the hotel, Me and ravi crashed on the bed as we were damn sleepy. Both of us had very little sleep may be just 4hrs for the 48hrs before the ride. But praveen asked us to get ready for the darshan.We chated for sometime while, me and ravi had bath. Kriss came to the hotel and our usual hungama started,Jokes and dicussing abt Busa which he was abt to get and wat not. Praveen left for his home while me,ravi and kriss went down to have lunch. Me and ravi had lunch while kriss watched us guffing . We were still sleepy but the excitment of us hitting the ghats made us awake.But as soon as we came out i could see the smile on ravi's face gone. It was raining cats,dogs,buffalo's,elephants even dinosuar. He does'nt like rain....reason everything gets messy!. Well this means only one thing "we cannot enjoy the ghats". We waited for the rains to stop while we 3 chatted abt kriss's p150classic. Rain stopped and i was very sleepy to ride the bike and kriss did not want to ride his P150 in the ghats after the rain as his front tyre was bald. So kriss rode my RTR while i was happy riding pillion with him.



                      Our bike's tank were almost empty. Searched for speed and filled up for 300rs on both our bikes(conicidently as i wanted to fill for 500bucks while ravi wanted to fill 6lts. But we both ended up filling for 300rs). We started of to the ghats. It was funny seeing ravi's face while he was riding. He hated riding in rain. Met praveen near the entrance of the ghats.We waited for a while, while he went to get the passes.I jumped on to Ravi's 220 as pillion. All of us took it easy as the ghats were slippery but after a while there was no stopping ravi.He was taking the cornor at 80+ on the wet road with me as a pillion. It freaked me out. Praveen kept up with us on his Gladiator while kriss was having a nice intro with TVS tyres on a wet surface and that too with the gears getting stuck every now and then. At one point there were two buses racing with each other @ 30kmph....ravi and praveen managed to get past them while kriss was staying behind. He told me that the rear slided when he was abt to overtake the buses from the middle in a cornor when he opened the throttle. We all stopped at a point in the ghats and discussed abt the speeds which we can do there as kriss and praveen had some doubt though they have been there loads of time....but they have done it on their YBX, Splendor days and not with the latest machines.



                      We started off again and i sat behind Kriss on my RTR. At time kriss opened the throttle fully but i did'nt feel the bike was pulling when compared to the 220. Only then i realised how much torque matters while climbing a slope! Reached the temple and parked the bike in secured place while we wonder where to keep the mobile's and camera's. Thought of keeping it under RTR's and 220 seats but then it might get damaged if it rains. But praveen took all the phones amd cam and deposited it somewhere. Kriss and praveen got some passes for the darshan and we went in the temple. While we got in praveen found a gal who was traveling with them from hyd to tirupathi on train in a hotel room which was visible from the temple......from here on the fun starts....started cracking his usual jokes....we all laughed away to glory...had a gr8 time there. When inside the temple while we were waiting for our turn for darshan, kriss was asking abt the experience and tips in a flight as he was abt to fly to bombay for the 1st time in flight though he knew everything. It was fun watching both of them While all four of us where searching for some good chicks in the temple. Had darshan(had a small argument too with some ppl pushing us around for no reason).



                      Came out of the temple again with lots of jokes and leg pulling each other. Had a real good time. We waited for a longtime for praveen to get our mobiles and cams. While 3 of us were planing for tomorrow!

                      Praveen got the phones and cam and all of us satrted to climb down.Ravi and praveen ripped while kriss and me rode slowly enjoying the ride very much!

                      Kriss and me stopped in the middle,and i saw this fantastic view of tirupathi at night.My N82 could only manage to capture this.A better cam would have gr8 results!











                      I guess there was a waterfall where we stopped coz i was able to hear water falling from a good hieght. Later kriss told me there was one.



                      Reached downhill, Ravi and praveen were waiting for us since 15mins it seems. They took us to a famous chat bandar where they used to hangout during their collage days.The owner recognised them immediatly.Had some pani poori's,Dhai puri's and some chat. Praveen left as he was getting late while kriss took us to the hotel.He showed us the school where he studied on the way to hotel. We parked our bike and was wondering whether to have dinner or not as we had lot lot of chat and pani poori's. Spoke to kriss for 15mins and checked out his p150 classic.He was always saying that his bikes looks bigger than any other P150's to which i denied.But later on when i came back to hyd i started notcing other bike and his bike really seems to be bigger! He said that his bike was poorly maintained and was hoping to revive it back.!He had put those fish like fin's on his wheel which was famous back then. He left us while we head back to our room,while ravi took some ice-cream and i bought some mazza for my dinner.I immidiatly crashed on the bed and was watching TV while ravi slept for sometime. He immediatly woke up and remembered that we have'nt parked our bikes properly and was worried.I was damn tired to move so took the job of checking the bikes while i slept! I did not know when he returned and slept! All i remember is being waken up by the room service phone call i the morning 5.30

                      Woke up and freshend up while we give kriss a wake up call.He was at the room in half an hour and he got us XBHP t-shirt. I had some coffee,but no one wanted to have it.i had all of it myself.Praveen promised to ride with us in the ghats yesterday but when we called up he was lazy and did want to come.But kriss convinced him and we rode down to his house. He got his gladi but was low on fuel. Me ,ravi and kriss move towards the check point at the start of the ghat and asked praveen to join us there. But he was fast....bloody fast. Caught up with us before we reached there. Kriss was riding my RTR till the checkpoint. he gave me the bike at there and hopped on to the gladi so that we can enjoy the ghats to the fullest and to click pics while riding with his son cybershot 7.1mp cam! This was going to be my first ever ride in the ghats. I have'nt tried cornoring before this...NEVER...so i was a bit nervous at that point but everything went smooth once i started riding.

                      I was comfortable riding only after a few cornors. i have this habit of riding in top gear always irrespective of the terain. It took a while for my to drop few gears to able the bike pull a lot better in ghats. I was pulling the clutch in the starting while cornoring and then leaving it at the exit and start accelrating....at times the bike fishtailed a bit...only then i realised not to pull in the clutch but drop a gear or two while negotiating a cornor.The 1st ride uphill was a learning experience for me.

                      We were chatting and were freaked out for a second as we could see only Ravi's bike and mine was missing. we thought it rolled backward and crashed somewhere or may be fallen off the cliff








                      When i went close to the 220 to check my bike it was there and i was laughing....220 blocked my RTR and i had parked it exactly the same way as the 220!

                      Saw a constable walking towards us and asked us to leave.







                      After this there were some series of hairpin cornors ravi went ahead of me and i came to this cornor and was bending it with all i could but saw some wet patches on the cornor so i had to come up and slow down and i did'nt notice praveen clicking it! bad luck i must say!

                      I was wondering all the time why i was not able to scrap the pegs even thoug i was bending to the max. I thought i should have taken the cornors with more speed.But all this was cleared in the last cornor wher i had to overtake a jeep from the inside lane.Took the cornor at abt 25-30kmph and i was scraping the pegs all the way. This tought me that speed does'nt always matters in cornoring. learnt a lot that day!

                      I took a small test drive of praveens gladi and dropped it







                      We had an option of waiting for kriss to come after tonsuring his head else do the ghats again! the second idea seemed to be good since we were riding a bit slower in the ghats and wanted to enjoy it fully without stopping.Asked for some routes to get into the ghats again as soon as we got down and started off while praveen and kriss go to the temple.Getting down the hill for more fun for me than going up.There were lot of hairpin curve here than while going up and i scrapped the peg loads of time too.There was long straight for abt 1.5kms where i almost clocked 133kmph on the speedo and i guess ravi hit 130kmph too. As usual ravi pulled ahead of me while i take it easy when overtaking the buses.He overtook them easily but i always have a fear of these RTC buses Towards the end of the downhill section i stopped. It looked nice and clicked some pics!







                      Now i took the risk of keeping my cell on the garud railing at the edge of the cliff for this pic.If it had sliped or if there was a heavy wind it would have fallen straight into the forest below







                      Reached downhill and ravi was abt to call me as he was worried i did'nt show up and took so long

                            Ravi Kiran is very busy. As he is going to banglore today, he has to complete a week's work in two days. He has become a donkey for now.
