  • [Photo Feature]: Touring 6 months after accident - Ride to Bhangarh Fort

This is my first ever triplog I am writing. So any and every comment or criticism is welcome to improve next time.

Had been planning to leave for Lansdowne with the group but with the weather playing spoilsport, that couldnt materialize. Actually had plans to have a college friend as pillion and cancelled on him Fri evening, so even though could have joined at the last minute but would not have been fair to him, so dint go.
Anyway, so the mood was set and the last minute cancellation was bugging me, so just for the heck of it went upto Manesar Mc D on Sat alone. Nice weather but bad traffic. On the way back, decided to catch up with Aseem, and probably ride somewhere on Sunday. A single day ride.
A lot of ideas, including Sariska, Bhangarh, Jaipur etc came up, but seemed too far as he had to be back by 1500hrs.

Anyway, to cut the story short. No concrete plan per se, and my friend was at my place already. Aseem called at night and cancelled, with a genuine reason, as he did not have his bike with him then. So, then had to decide to leave it or make it alone.

Went to Priya Complex with Naveen(my college mate and my pillion for the ride) and tp-ed till 1 in the night. Decided to make it by ourselves and see upto where we can go. Slightly confused as to if I should or not as had to tool kit or anything at all. But decided to see what comes along.

Couldnt sleep in the night, stayed up chatting and catching up with Naveen.

Got bugged with no sleep and thought 'What the Heck, we'll just start off'.

So without any sleep, moved out from the parking around 5-ish and straight went to a 24hr petrol bunk and got 400bucks worth fuel for the bike. I did not have any fuel for my body - and as it would turn out, would barely have anything over the next 15hrs.

Made to Manesar Mc D at 5:40am and took a break for a sutta and wait for the sunlight to get better as visor was getting foggy and it being tinted, couldn't close it. (Have an allergy in the eyes to dust or something - on medication)

Made a move on and got open stretches. Made to the 100 kms mark by 6:40. Covering 76kms in less than an hour. Stopped for breakfast at a roadside dhaba. But as it turned out, was way over-tired and hungry, so barely ate half a paratha and rest 1.5 parathas went to a cute looking excited doggie.

While there, thought that, making decent time, so could probably go upto Jaipur (constraint being to try to be back by sunset, due the the eyes). But Jaipur had the problem that wont have time to explore, so decided to make it to Bhangarh and maybe carry on and see Amer. So moved on and made it to Shahapura and further with a single break - even though that was a long one as went to some farmers hut and they arranged for a cot, so laid down for a while there.

Stopped at some huge complex I dont remember the name of, had CCD in it. So stopped for the morning duties and a cold coffee. Last thing in my stomach until that night, except for the smokes I puffed.

After Shahpura, approx 10-15 kms, from Manoharpura, there's a turn for Bhangarh. It was expected to be around 20kms or so, according to the guy we asked while getting off from the NH, which turned out to be more than 60kms with some stretches of a few kms of no-road at all. Asked around and everytime got the same response - 5-10kms further.

Anyway, finally got to Bhangarh around 1 or so. With the trip meter reading at 265 kms from my parking. Practically had made 20kms extra over Jaipur.

Parked the bike, and went inside into the fort.
Point to remember: Only Parle-G biscuits are available for eating, absolutely NOTHING ELSE.

Here, I'll tell you a little background on the place. Bhangarh Fort is one of the better-in-condition forts in India. It is one of the TOP 100 HAUNTED PLACES IN THE WORLD. And last I read somewhere it is considered the top in India(AFAIK). Its the only place in India where the office of ASI(Archaelogical Survey of India) is outside the premises of the structure. Even the village just before it is absolutely empty and nobody lives there. Its not allowed to go anywhere there after sunset as there have been legends of a market place being run in the night by the ghosts. Whatever!!

Anyway, nice fort with lots of greenery around. And the fort is in a decent shape too. Lots of people had come from Jaipur, as its pretty close for them. We sat in a tree shade for an hour or so and checked out the Natural Beauties around.
    Made calls to home.

Then got up to explore the fort and went upto the roof. Bloody tough climb with the tiredness but made it. Super view from the top, but that is the only place I missed having a better camera with me (All snaps are from my phone - N86 8MP).

Around 3 decided to start back as didnt have time for Amer now. Decided to avoid the NH as it gets very boring riding and I get sleepy. So decided to take the Rajgarh-Alwar-Bhiwadi-Manesar-Delhi route.

Upto Rajgarh, roads are BAD, with a 7-8km stretch of no road, just stones. But was too tired to go back and fuel was a concern too. So went through upto Rajgarh. Got a petrol bunk there and put in 500 bucks worth of Speed. Then on, the road were much better. Alwar to Bhiwadi is a 2-way road i.e. no divider, with trucks and crazy car drivers who come in my lane to overtake even when I am continuously beeping my puny horn. Anyways, that was better for me to keep me awake.
Wanted to cover as much as possible before sunset, so pushed for a 150kms without any break in 2 hrs upto Bhiwadi, continuously riding in the 95kmph zone, with the average going down thanks to some stupid @#%^s who want to use their lane and mine too and some dumasses want to race. Anyway, thanks to Naveen for bearing with me, I can imagine how uncomfortable a pillion is, especially behind me, as I dont like to break momentum, so they get some nice bumps along the way.

So got to Bhiwadi, at sunset, stopped for a sutta break. There onwards was the tough part, as 2 bugs went into my eyes. and then hitting the NH was my nightmare. Trucks in both lanes and creating a proper dust storm, with the road in a bad bad bad state. Was barely able to see for the next 40kms upto Manesar. Eyes were dripping tears and finally made it to the expressway. There onwards it was smoother sailing, but the body was taking its toll now. Started feeling my hands and lower neck and back hurt like crazy. So decided to make it asap to home and crash in, coz if I stopped would be difficult to get back up.

Ripped straight through traffic over a 100 and got in the parking around 8ish and the moment got off the bike, I could feel my legs and hands slightly numb (in hindi - thoda sa SO gaye the )

    Meter Reading 505kms.
    Total Time 15hrs.
    Travel Time 12 hrs approx.

Finally, I made a ride after 6 months, so now know the shoulder is fine and can plan for longer rides. Lets see.

P.S. which reminds me, I wish to go to Mt Abu soon, probably a 3-4 day ride roundtrip. So if anybody wishes to join in
